These Fragment documents are fabulous material for us. Thank you so much for retrieving them despite getting cold and wet. The Flickr page should work well for everyone.. I do not see a need to upload anywhere else. Please give mrshomersimpson our best.

For Arrested Development fans out there, apparently Gene Parmesan was also a master of time travel!

Also from the Passenger List, wondering if Anne Phillips, Lionel and Holli might be Anastasie and her boy and girl.

Odd listing of passengers.. not alphabetical or numerical. Could this be significant?

Also odd is the redacted name at request of "Her majesty's secret service".
I'm guessing this is the Operative.

And this could be nitpicking, but, wouldn't it be "HIS Majesty" until 1952 (when George VI died)? Maybe the manifest here was printed well after the passage in 1943.

Is it just me, or does it sound like both the Artist and the Mathematician may have used the device previously?

I still think the Artist is the Mathematician's sister and the Mathematician used the device to save her after seeing the grave. This created reality B which was destroyed when the Operative used the device; creating reality C (or maybe even D if it was used some other time?) to try and do something he obviously didn't get done. I say he couldn't accomplish it, otherwise, why would he spend his time at the lighthouse and go back? Unless he's trying for immortality, (he isn't or we'd be covered in fragments, right?) he has no other reason that we know of (yet? Love?) to go back.

*EDIT:
went back and listened to the audio from May 24th and kept thinking that the beeps at the end sound like sonar and he mentions Leningrad just before SO, a quick search lead to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leningrad-class_destroyer_leader which lists Leningrad as a "Leningrad class" submarine which would have been in service at that time.

Well, it does seem that Blackhollow Lighthouse is getting to be the popular hangout these days. All the key people seem to know about it and the Device. My question is why whoever used it first, waited so long? I am assuming of course that the first occurrence of Fragments began with the beginning of the ARG.

Hey MrToasty... the Mechanic just confirmed your suspicion.

Quote:
heathian asked: Do you recognise your Thought Experiment that was recovered from the Glascow Fragment? If so, would you elaborate on how the fragment recoveries to date relate to what you postulated in the Experiment.

(the Mechanic) Yes, friend. It is becoming more apparent that this is not the first time this machine was used.

Awesome Smile
Now I wonder if we can identify which pieces come from the same timeline and maybe the order of who went back when.

Well, I suspect the first fragments resulted from the original Device use. Unclear why that original user activated it. The Pittsburgh material would later suggest a second use of the Device, probably to reverse the world gone bad scenario shown in those fragments (USSR with the A-bomb and defeating tthe US).

I agree--

I think one activation was to prevent the Reds!triumphant future found in Pittsburgh. I think that's the future that happens if the Mathematician goes back with the Soviets in Leningrad. So the Mathematician going back to find her sister an unintended consequence of the original use of the device, perhaps for less noble reasons. Like someone trying to prevent the death of their family or loved one in a sea disaster? Or to save a family lost in a bombing of Rennes?

Another option would be that the mathematician herself used the device in order to try and find her sister, but didn't realize how grave the consequences would be.

My working theory, which is likely to be nixed by the next drop Very Happy:

our timeline has Galatia destroyed in 1943. Possibly by uboat possibly by the device. Mathematician, Artist and Operative believed to be aboard

Another timeline has the Galatia arrive safely in NYC in 1943, apparently carrying the Artist and Operative, and the materials for the quantum timeu-wimey device. Mathematician was rescued by the Operative, but went back to the Soviets at Lenningrad. Because of this Soviets got the bomb earlier and defeated the US, the rest of the allies and the Axis. This timeline was "fixed" by (probably) the Mechanic activating the device.

So there's another time the machine was activated--we don't know by whom, or why, but it could be for more personal reasons (the artist saves his family, the Operative saves the Mathematician from a sea disaster, the Mathematician tries to save her sister, etc) Perhaps that activation sets the USSR triumphant timeline in motion.

Oops, didn't mean to kill the thread!

I'm wondering why the Mechanic hasn't updated with hae_jin's successful Glascow find. Hae_jin, was there a USB drive with a code o. The outside in your drop? (It would've had a voice memo on it) I may have missed you mentioning it--with all the timelines floating around its getting hard to keep track!

If you've already put the code into the blackhollow website, I can ping the mechanic on tumblr about it.
