Just something I noticed while looking back at this. Someone else in the YouTube comments noticed it as well.

I feel like commenting on and rambling about something-- well first of all, the transcript is excellent and appreciated and seriously congratulations on that.

But it was said earlier in the thread that the interview implied Joseph did not care for endings nor did he like plot twists, and.. well, I didn't get that at all in the interview. I got the other thing you said: That Joseph does not care for the concept of spoilers. This is why Troy said Joseph would read the last page of a book first, and why Joseph said if a story has to rely on the novelty of a twist to keep the audience invested, then the story didn't have much merit to begin with. Endings and plot twists came up in the discussion to serve as an example of his viewpoint on spoilers. And honestly, it's a viewpoint I rather respect. A well-constructed story with tight consistency and a logical progression of characters to convey a theme can hold its own just fine, and the idea of hating spoilers just takes the focus of experiencing a story away from the experiencing a story and puts it on simply being surprised by a story.

I mean, either that or Joseph really did mean he was against plot twists, but something about Entry 80 tells me he's gotta like something about them if he's willing to still be a part of making the series. Though it's arguable whether the events of Entry 80 are really a plot twist since there were plenty of clues to expect it beforehand. But that's the secret of a good plot twist, isn't it? Foreshadowing, precedence, and consistency. Like, when I saw Entry 80, I didn't drop my cigarette and spill ash all over my bed and have to pause the video for two minutes to calm myself down because I was surprised; I got so scared because I recognized Alex as a well-established threat, could empathize with Jay's utter panic of being confronted with such a threat, and plus Alex's pose paralleled the Operator way too effectively and that just awoke all my fears I've ever had of that. Was I surprised? Yes (and at the same time, no). But is that the reason I nearly shat myself? No. Most of my fear came well after the scene.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
..there's also the fact that a man pointing a gun at me is not a new sight in my life and really Alex reawakens a lot of old wounds in me every time, but from the sounds of people I've spoken to about this series, Joseph's performance legitimately scares more than just me, so it can't just be flashbacks on my part.

I realize the irony of using spoiler tags in a post defending the right to disregard spoiler tags, but I also happen to think one should certainly have the right to experience surprises fresh for the first time if they want to. So I'm totally happy with spoiler tags, I just wanted to get my ramble out there because it felt.. appropriate?
