An idea on what c and v could stand for that I'm pretty confident with - we're not looking for both maths and religion together, but seperately. the math side of this was just to work out c = 28 and v = 12, and now we have these numbers, they relate to chapters and verses from a biblical text. Chapter 28, verse 12. I'll look into it more now and hopefully find something proper and more specific, but since I'm in uni right now, I thought I'd share the thought now as it might take me a while to find something while juggling seminars.

This is excellent, well done! I'll have a dig around too and see if I can find anything.

I've been trying to work on the idea that 'Start at the poles' is an anagram but I'm struggling a little. It could potentially spell phrases including 'Hearts' (relevant to our cards) or 'letters' (which some of us have received) - but I can't find a likely full phrase containing either of those.

One thought I had was that the original message tells us where to 'start at', so I wondered if an anagram could tell us where to stop - but the best I've come up with so far is 'Stop at last three', which doesn't mean a great deal.

Good idea wastedtime!

Genesis 28:12
He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

Would at least fit in with the dream topic Wink

I like this, you should email that to the Servant.

Okay, I've been through the King James bible and pulled out all the passages that meet the Chapter 28 Verse 12 criteria (I think - apologies for any errors). Here they are:

Genesis wrote:
And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

Exodus wrote:
And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.

Numbers wrote:
And three tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one bullock; and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one ram;

Deuteronomy wrote:
The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

1 Samuel wrote:
And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.

1 Chronicles wrote:
And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things:

2 Chronicles wrote:
Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,

Job wrote:
But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?

Proverbs wrote:
When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

Isaiah wrote:
To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

Jeremiah wrote:
Then the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the prophet, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

Ezekiel wrote:
Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

Matthew wrote:
And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,

Acts wrote:
And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.

Of those, these are the ones that strike me as possible relevant:

Job
This fits in nicely with the questions we are tasked with answering but doesn't offer any answers.

Proverbs
Speaks of the wicked rising, which obviously mirrors our quest to stop 'the ancient evil' from rising. "A man is hidden" - could this tie in with The Servant?

Matthew
The Servant has referred to us as soldiers in an ancient war a couple of times, which made the mention of soldiers here stand out for me. "Assembling with the elders" could tally with the Warlocks' initial meetings to try and stop the evil at the outset.

Acts
This one strikes me as relevant because of the mention of Syracuse, which contains all the letters of A-R-U-S-E. I might be stretching a bit there, I guess.

Hey. I am still around, just haven't had much to add as of yet.

That being said, the idea to try bible verses is a good one, but I gotta ask... is there a reason we are picking the bible specifically? Are there any other religious books that we could pick that might be separated by chapter and verse? I will admit some ignorance on the subject but if there is, it might be worth noting. I will poke around and see. Also, I ha e a friend who is working on a doctorate in religious studies, if this is rooted in the bible as has been suggested I may be able to help out with finding anything interesting about those verses...

And the stairs/ladders reference would be a good "nature" for the portals

I have the Magicians Companion: A Practical & Encyclopedia Guide to Magical & Religious Symbolism.

I will look through it tonight and look for anything that mentions c or v or 12 in it.

I am perplexed by this posting:
https://twitter.com/MasterOfTwelve

"2nd 12th = 24? I am working hard such that this might be the case"

Maybe Elethamei is correct about the 24th.

Could it be the magic weakens every 12th day, and we can expect something soon?
Or maybe just wishful thinking...

The Servant's latest tweet about the title "Mathematics and Religion" led me to think about

28 + 12 = 40, a number definitely with lots of religious meanings in Chrisitanity (lent, 40 days in the desert, 40 days of rain, etc.)

Also, 28 could be a reference to the 4 Sundays of the advent season (approximately 28 days), and 12 could be a reference to the "Twelve Days of Christmas" (Dec 25 - Jan 5).

28 days is also a lunar cycle.... and was (incidentally) the number I chose as my favourite Smile

I sent a direct tweet to the servant asking if "Cover your eyes" may refer to Darkness and he said Possibly not sure.

I've been trying to find non-biblical references to 28:12 because i didn't want to just assume it must be christian, but it's not coming up with much. The closest I've found is sura 28, ayat 12 from the Qur'an, but it doesn't tie in with the letters, which was what this whole answer is based off. Since nothing else seems to be in chapters and verses, I'm going to consider it biblical.
My first thought was it would be from Genesis, since it's the first/about creation/means creation which kind of ties into the poles and has the whole thing about darkness which could tie into closing your eyes, but it's not a strong enough connection for me to be comfortable assuming that. Trying to work out if/how "aruse" could relate to the chapters and verses theory so I can actually back it up and maybe take it somewhere.

It couldn't be as simple as 28th December, could it? We are also looking for a date after all.

Nah, these things are never that simple lol!

According to the Servant's tweets, the Index should not prove useful at this time:

Quote:
@MasterOfTwelve If I may, how many parcels were sent out?

@axlwilh That question has already been answered. 7 - 6 pages and 1 letter.

@axlwilh I apologise - I suffer from morning haze like everyone else. 1 more piece is yet to be discovered - but I am not sure it will help.

@axlwilh It is simply an index to be drawn upon later. I am intrigued by your mathematics - perhaps you could e-mail me your workings?
