Although I doubt they'd do that (partially because it would be a blatant violation of UF's own policies), it's not like they couldn't. ARGish things for viral marketing are completely a thing. Posting in-character somewhere to lead into their character's descent into madness/disappearance is something a movie could do.

What if they make an ARG for the movie? Then we would have an ARG based on a movie based on (what we originally thought was) an ARG orignally about a movie. How meta could they get with this?

Just a thought, the series will most likely end before the movie comes out, which means that we can expect a LAST entry sometime before spring 2014... that's only a few more months...

I bet they will do some kind of reference as in the character will have done research in the movie of similar occurrences and see that Alex/Jay had the same situation.

This is similar to what Final Destination does. The main character has a vision of death and avoids their death. When the people start getting killed off, the character usually looks for a solution and finds that similar occurrences have happened in their world/universe. Why else would the film take place in the same universe as Marble Hornets?

Or, for some lulz, the main characters hear about this "Marble Hornets" thing on YouTube, decide to try to make Alex's movie, and then TO is somehow drawn to them. ~~Clearly because he is aware Alex's movie is horrible, and is trying to stop it from coming into being.~~ Razz

But on a serious note, judging from the panel at the convention, there will be references scattered about. Whether that means to the series as YouTube channel or to the events of the series is anyone's guess. I sort of prefer the latter, since that would establish a clear in-universe connection between events.
