the lottery

i'd think i'd like to be involved in the lottery, but I'm not sure what it entails. but i guess by the sound of things no one does. i know there's a possiblity that you can get stuff through Dana, but it said something about her most loyal crew members, or something. I'm afraid that since I didn't make the crew list maybe I won't be able to get in on whatever's being given out. so basically, yeah, sign me up please.

This doesn't stop people from getting someone else who decides at this late date to collect swag for the needy and get it to those people who were late in deciding that they wanted swag.

Or various other combinations that result in hugs and puppies. Cool

yeah, if you can find someone who's going to an event, try to contact them and see if they can hook you up... (:

let me explain

I think there has been a major misunderstanding here. I am sure it has all been my fault for not expressing myself clearly.

Before this post, I have only made two posts in this whole thread....

The first thing I said about the lottery was that I thought it was a fine idea.

The last thing I said was that I wasn't participating, but have fun.

I think it is everything in between that somehow went wrong....

My first post was to explain why I was choosing not to participate. I resented the idea of getting a lecture about charity because I choose not to join. I thought this was an acceptable expression of my personal opinion.

I think that Phaedra explained that she assumed I would know she was joking about the lecture. I did not. To be honest, I felt very pressured to join in. I felt that I was somehow failing the community if I didn't join. I wanted people to know why I wasn't. ( which was not because I wanted to greedily keep everything I could get, but because I had already promised people I would give them stuff if I could.) I was going by the literal language written and missed the joke. I should have known better, as everyone else seems to have understood it was all in good fun, but I didn't....

My second post was all about supporting Krystyn. I thought this discussion thread had moved from the specific topic of: who should be in the lottery to a more general discussion concerning who deserved what.

It was not meant to be about the lottery per se. I didn't mean to imply anything about how the lottery was being decided. I was looking at the general idea that some people who hadn't seemed to play the game at all were going to get stuff that others, who did play the game, were not.

The examples I gave were show how impossible it is to set a standard to judge someone's level of participation in a game. The specific example of my friend was to show that you would think he is new. He has never registered here. If he suddenly posted he would appear to be brand new. But that would be a false impression.

My comment was taken to be about the lottery and not about the general idea. That is entirely my fault of course. The thread is, after all, about the lottery. I hope you will understand I thought that, after 11 pages, the discussion had broadened to include the fairness of the whole distribution of swag, not just the lottery.

If you read what I wrote you will see that I didn't criticize how the lottery was run. Or what anyone was doing about it. In fact, the only time I even referred to the lottery was at the end of the whole post.

My final comment, that I had already opted out of the lottery, was meant to make it clear what I wrote was not about the lottery. Having opted out of it, I sure as hell am not going to try to tell you how to run it.

Even so, I don't really see how saying "have fun with it!!" could be construed as a negative comment.

That being said, I hope this clarifies what I should have said more clearly before.

Re: let me explain

Okay, rose.

I called off Kali. Smile

I figured that there was probably some misreading going on...and (sarcasm aside) I should have used more emoticons in my first post to demonstrate more clearly that it wasn't intended to be taken seriously.

I assumed that by the time I added the stuff about the sermon, pretty much everyone would have read the first version of the post and realized that this was an update -- and that if they were still reading the thread, they were either interested in being a recipient or considering being a sender. And I probably read sarcasm into your posts that wasn't actually there. Embarassed

My prodding was basically intended to get people who hadn't gotten around to opting in to hurry up and do it so I had some numbers.

I'm very sorry that you felt pressured -- the intent was certainly not to pressure people who had no interest in participating.

As for my recent post...gahk, election stress. It was a bit more harsh than it should have been.

Kali, who's here right now making t-shirts, says ditto for her.

So, quite genuinely, sorry for the misunderstandings, and I hope you have fun at your event.

What rambunctious kittens these have been. Smile

Sorry, tsioc. Registration is closed. I don't mean to be draconian about this, and if we get a lot more swag offers than I anticipate, I'll add you to the list, but at this point I'm going to abide by my own rules. I can't manage this if people keep popping up at the last minute.

But please, email Dana to get your DVD, and feel free to make private arrangements!

Sighhhh......

Not that anything else needs to be added to this thread, but...

To all who've followed this thread since the "pirating" issue got flamed. I apologize for asking for a .bittorrent.

All the points made by Mazian, and others are completely valid. I do not support piracy, I got very upset at the Halo2 French edition leak. I have and will continue to purchase all my Microsoft products, games, etc.

However, I download LEGAL ISOs of software like SUSE Linux, Lindows, etc. I was planning to send my email to Dana for a copy of the Halo2 marketing DVD. In spite of that, I only asked about a .bittorrent in case a DVD wasn't going to be available.

I have been with the Unfiction forum and the beekeepers from July. Being busy at work and living in Hawaii limited my participation. But, I did play hooky from work in order to answer the few axon calls here and lurked in the #beekeepers room. I guess I'm one of those shy people who don't write much on the forums, not because I'm shy, but because it takes hours to catch up with topics and stay current, let alone solve any puzzles.

I played the Beast and loved it too. I've really enjoyed being involved with this ARG and really appreciate the people who have been taking the lead and contributing so much to it. Its been fun. I'm disappointed I didn't get a live axon, or make it on Melissa crew and now can't make it to the Live Training Event. So having the marketing DVD is about the only memorabilia (from Bungie) I can hope to get.

Anyway, to Mazian, I understand where you are coming from and am with you on copyright laws. But please, don't jump down peoples throats and over react the way you did and then think you are justified. You can state your points, and kindly remind others when they err in judgement, like my request for a bittorrent. Please try not to flame like that, it really destroys the cooperative mood and friendly atmosphere that has made this ARG such a joy to participate in.

That's it. Again, sorry for the stupid post earlier about DVDs and swag. Everyone that's going to the Live Training, have fun and slag some Covies for me.

As I said in one or two previous posts. These messages are not directed at you. You are, however, discussing a topic about which I feel very passionate.

I wish you the best of luck in getting a copy of the DVD for yourself. Smile

This may be the wrong place to put this, and if so please kill it or move it, but if by chance there is extra swag, I wouldn't mind having my name thrown in. I didn't find this thread until tonight. Or on the slim chance that someone has an extra lanyard, that would be cool too, I can pay postage and all that. I hope I can get a dvd through Dana, so I'm not worried about that.

My problem is that, while I planned to attend the Chicago training session, it was all riding on my car being out of the shop in time. I bought an '00 Toyota Solara this summer, but it had been hit and needed some work. It will have been in the shop for 4 months next week. Needless to say, I was pretty mad that it was taking them this long, but they're the best shop in town, and they're doing me a favor by giving me a good deal on labor (I am a poor college kid after all...) So my car was supposed to be done by monday. Needless to say, it wasn't. So I didn't get to go.

I know my story isn't really that much different than anyone else's, and that I did miss the deadline, but if anyone has an extra, just drop me a line. I'm more than happy to be at the back of the line, and I totally understand if there's nothing left. I'm just a hopeful begger looking for a cool reminder of the awesome time I've had playing this game.

I'm too sad and frustrated to pretend otherwise right now, so if someone is nice enough to consider helping me get my own DVD and lanyard, I'll try and hold off on slaughtering everybody one by one in a fit of Halo nerd rage.
