Hah, what's that level called just after Cortana tells you Guilty Spark is a wanker and wants to kill you all? I was playing that on Legendary Co-op.... we owned, after the 50th attempt. Very Happy

*sigh*

"The Two Betrayals". From Bungie, one might think we would have seen this coming.

I managed to finally get past the second Act of Halo (When you first crash land and must rescue the marines) last night, on Legendary and I only lost the first batch of marines. I saved every other Marine.

I haven't been able to do that for ... well, at least 2 years... It's just really hard.

I look forward to Combat Training tonight. Twisted Evil

Man, I can't get past the first set of covies, right after you dodge those two banshees. I mean, I can't even get to the first checkpoint on that level! Any pointers?

I think it's more like this:

McKaskill triggered it the first time. The Covenant are alerted, but deep in their own space; they get there and find nothing. The humans recognize it as a huge EMP. What it REALLY has done is set off a huge remote signal that arms the Halo installations all across the galaxy.

The Flea is aware of what they've found, and begins trying to reveal its location to the Covenant--but it has to find it first. Not only that, it needs to DEACTIVATE it, because if it counts down all the way, it remote-triggers the Halo installations, and then everyone si teh dead, human and Covenant and miscellaneous alike.

So going through all this, Herzog is killed before they learn the sequence used to activate the artifact. Flea mimics Herzog enough to get McKaskill to divulge the trigger sequence, 'reveal the truth', and possibly 'save humanity'.

Team Jersey nearly (!) screws up the deactivation, but thanks to Rani's deductions, they merely shut off the countdown. This, however, requires another remote signal to be pulsed. The Halo installations have been shut down, but now the Covenant have a new location to check out.

Ironically, the Flea *did* save everyone, while fulfilling its parameters.

I will subscribe to that theory. The only thing I don't understand is why the flea chose to reveal the final truth to us. Is he just giving us the finger?

Seek the truth
Behold the truth
Reveal the truth
That is the law and the whole of the law

He is still our friend, in some ways. We _did_ help him with achieving his mission, and in not allowing all life in the galaxy to be wiped out we helped us and him alike. I feel a bit entitled, don't you?

Question: How would have all life in the galaxy been wiped out? Certainly not the small artifact... and the big one was taken care of by MC.

Ignore the Covenant that land in the dropship by your first escape pod. Going across the bridge to them will just get you killed. Equip your pistol and take out the first banshee. I find that if you wait until it is coming in and unload a full clip into it while it is charging, then switch to the AR when you start to automatically reload and hose the F-er, then he will explode pretty close to the wall. You want to slide right or left as it is charging so it doesn't hit you, but not so much that he breaks off his attack. If you time it right, when he explodes the dead elite pilot will land where you can grab his plasma rifle.

Once you toast Banshee A, Banshee B will bug out. Swap the AR for the Plasma rifle. In Legendary plasma weapons are your friend. Learn to love them because they take down the Elite's shields much faster.

Go past the rocks and take out the elite/grunts there. Use pistol from long range to take out the grunts and then take out the Elite with the plasma rifle from as close as you need to get. Do it quick and watch your back or the covenant that landed by your escape pod will flank your ass.

The section where you must help the marines on the stucture is one of the hardest in the game. When you first come around the corner to the installation take out the Covenant that are right there and you will get a checkpoint.

Now you have to be proactive. Do NOT stay at the installation. Stay on foot and race to wherever the dropships are about to land. Try to stick a plasma grenade to the Elites before they jump out and try to mop up the rest before the next dropship lands. After the first three you will get a checkpoint. You have to be balls-out relentless to win on Legendary.

Good luck, and good hunting.

Very good point. He exists to reveal the truth. It all makes sense to me now.

There are other halos besides the one destroyed by MC, and the artifact was a count down timer to activate them.

Holy Crap. Basically all the loose ends have been tied up. What an amazing story. After reading those last few lines
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

(music cuts out, sirens can be heard)
Jersey: Oh...
Durga: Yeah.
Jersey: You sent my mom to the vault.
Durga: Yeah.
Jersey: You sent Sarah-John to the bunker.
Durga: Yeah.
Jersey: You're taking care of family.
Durga: Yeah.
Jersey: Durga...
Durga: They're here.
---long---

Man that gave me goos bumps. No words can express how great this whole experiance was. Thanks everyone.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. It's amazing how much harder Legendary is than Heroic.

One thing that still doesn't really make sense to me: if Herzog was killed in the crash, and the flea was impersonating him, then what was the Herzog->Rani call in week 9 all about? Neither of the voices we heard were from the people we thought they were, and no new information was gained. Was the flea impersonating both sides of the conversation just to fool us? That seems like a wasted effort. What was gained by that?

Or am I missing something?

my spec is it was to get us off the flea's back... making us think that Herzog was still in the game, and having us draw the link assuming that the Flea was 'safe' because it was Herzog's. There's probably more to it than that, but that's the most obvious point I can see right now...

That was all for Durga's benefit (and ours), not Rani's.

The gain is that Durga 'learned' what 'Herzog' found out about the artifact. The description of what the artifact does is from the Flea's knowledge of prior effects, and that evidence is used by Durga to lay out why they need to hit Chawla later.
