Advice and Philosophy For a New ARG

I have been fascinated with transmedia storytelling and ARG's in particular for about 5 years now. I was so inspired by things like unfiction and ARGN.com that I created my own social networking site to experiment and play around with some of these ideas. Through time and evolution it ended up becoming a roleplaying site. You can see it at RolePages.com

I recently got inspired again after listening to a podcast about transmedia storytelling, and I am thinking of running an ARG with my current community. I already have a decent sized pool of potential players with RolePages, so I don' necessarily need participants, though I will of course post a trailhead in the appropriate section of this forum once things are up and running.

What I would really like is some advice and wisdom from past puppet masters, and even people who have participated in ARG's before. I have a rough outline of what I'd like to do, but I would really love to use this thread to crowd source some of my behind the scenes work as I play it out on its many stages.

So here is the idea I have so far....

Story Arc

RolPages is set up to be a social network, like facebook, but only fictional characters use it. So instead of bob, it's robin hood, or the demon lord Karg. They play these characters by writing blogs, and posting videos and pictures and using the forums, but the main interaction happens in a chat room. So while it is multimedia, the very main interactive thing is text. In World of Warcraft you turn left and sit by hitting the left key and alt S or whatever. In RolePages you type *I take a left, heading towards the chair and then sitting as I eye the room thoughtfully.*

My idea is that one of the important characters on RolePages, one that many consider the "leader" gets sucked up out of that world and his body is physically deposited in facebook.

So now, you have a guy with no friends on facebook, walking around going *walks, and walks, and walks, turning left and right* "what is this place? It just looks white and blue and vapid and empty"

So that starts a little meta.

The thing is, a lot of people who play characters on RolePages, also have characters on facebook. And RolePages has a facebook account. So eventually he'll meet other people and eventually... he'll find rolepages.

And learn that he is fictional.

At that point we can start having some of the fictional characters on RolePages meet their creators through social networks. And that makes all sorts of things possible.

That is a very bare bones, thin outline of what I have planned. But I wanted to post it here to see if I could get any kind of discussion going about it. Does it seam like a good idea? What are the pitfalls I need to avoid? I have a very small budget but some fun ideas for monetization. So let me know what you think.

And if posting this is destroying my whole arg idea because someone will just google rolepages and find out all of my plans please let me know. Thank you!

After talking to some of the very cool folks in the ARGN.com chat room I realize this may not actually be a proper ARG, as the definition requires, and thus may not be appropriate for this forum. I apologize if I have offended anyone, but also ask anyone interested in giving feedback on the idea to do so.
