I'll keep my eye on this, but it'll be more dependent on how the game runs. As the reason I lost activity midway through the ARG was because the game felt so much more "static" after they announced the book.

If I remember correctly, they said they were going to give notice to players after they were ready for their "new project".

So hopefully that does mean a reboot and not a continuation.

While we do not want to end the game like this, it seems necessary as the team will now focus on a new project. We will send out an invite to the new project once it is ready.

Do you mean they wrote an entire book?

Yeah, I know what you mean. I seriously missed the original craziness of digging through web directories or—my favorite part Smile—trying to convince and manipulate LAINSY and the component AIs (which I forget...) to do stuff for us. There was also the corporate espionage thing. I love all the "social engineering" puzzles this game used. And then... it just went too many directions at once, everything happened so quickly (and at the same time there was less to do) theeeennnn.... kablooey. No one could remember what all was happening, and stuff just gradually /stopped/ happening.

I really hope that doesn't happen again. For an "amateur" game (as opposed to run by a corporation for advertising reasons), it was pretty decently run and pretty large.

Hey catherwood! You played the original too, right?

nope, didn't play this one. I poked around the old sites just now, and found the people behind it, and the book they publised from the FAILtech universe. Its possible they will bring some of the old websites back for use in a new promotion for something else? I don't plan on going back thru 160 pages of old game discussion to get caught up at this point.

btw, perhaps this thread should be called "Project Repertum" if you want to treat this as a new (future, potential) trailhead and not get bogged down by a previous storyline.

Here's the stuff behind the scenes and where I found it:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

From the old story links on wattpad, I tracked "failtechwriter" back to his real name and websites.
http://ijlapis.com/blog/ <--hasn't mentioned the book in over a year.
http://www.seventhbookseries.com <--not sure if this was ever finished.

There is also an OOG website which is about to lose its domain registration, so grab any info from this soon if you want it.

Alright.

Yeah, it doesn't look like any of the fiction was quite finished. I'm not even sure if the story ever really did "auto-resolve." It may have just disappeared.

I think I'll wait to see if I hear back from that email address before I do anything (as it will hopefully settle whether this is a full reboot or not), but by and far I agree with the idea of adjusting the thread title. If I don't hear back at all in a couple days, I'll go ahead and do that.

Okay, I'm going to go ahead and change the title, as I haven't heard back from anyone.

Hello!

Rion Gnute here reporting in from FAILTECH, your leading organization in scientific ventures and enriching human quality of living. I am proud to announce that Project: Repertum has reached it's final stages and the Repertum Mobile Science Station has safely arrived at the Origin to answer the greatest question that has dawn on humanity since the War for Afyg through the Pioneer Rebellion, the Dual Earth Apocalypse, and the Orsikian War. What question you ask? Well, it's probably the biggest question we have to answer, and maybe the last. It is the question that has haunted FAILTECH and humanity for several cycles. Today marks the day that humanity faces the greatest fear in the universe.

"The End of the Universe" Actually, the question is "What is the Great Apocalypse?"

Humanity has faced several adversities, faced numerous enemies all of our own cause and some due to nature's twisted path laid in front of us. We've survived. Having proven to be the greatest explorers and innovators, we now face the fear that no other being in the universe has faced and defeated. We are now facing the enemy of the universe that our ancestors have ran away from hoping to find the answer from.

What lies ahead? We will find out. Project: Repertum is the first card we will deal against the Great Apocalypse.

We, humanity, are t-----------------

I got the same thing.

I'll read it later, but it does seem that they at least expect someone on board with this to have played the original, as IT ALL STARTED is a hint at one of the old sites. It was from after the point at which everything started to fall apart, so I don't really remember what it used to be, but now it seems to be a log from the Repertum.

Look at itallstarted.com

EDIT: Read the thing. It was a little hard to read at times, but it was a log detailing what seemed to be a catastrophic failure of their mission resulting from a mysterious engine contaminant.

This is also accessible from FAILTECH's site: http://lainsy.net/dlog/1102-3677/P-B7/

This has new content, as well: http://oriruserku.org/

Okay that entry log posted in http://itallstarted.com/ is pretty dang long but I read it. I'll try and summarize it here.

The log is from the Repertum ship. Most of it is written by a communications officer named Tiana Vel (aka TV-A0, identity code: TV-FT-RX00A0). The last entry is written by the captain Kalvin Zior (aka KZ-00, identity code: KZ-FT-RX0000). There's a 3rd ID code listed, NC-OS-RX0001, he's referred to in the entry once as NC-01, maybe he's the first officer? Not sure.

The ship's mission is to travel to the origin of the universe. The crew was in stasis for most of the trip until they were just recently woken up since the ship was nearing their destination. They were getting their ship ready for the arrival but they detected some weird stuff going on.

Tiana Vel noticed that the ship lost comms with headquarters/mission control/whatever, despite the fact that the equipment seems to be functioning just fine. He also detected a weird ancient comm signal, and set to work decoding and finding a way to communicate on this comm signal, which came in handy in a little bit.

Kalvin Zior and crew detected a Class E Contaminant (E-Con) in one of the ship's engines. They isolated the E-Con, which was doing weird but innocuous things, such as generating hydrogen particles. When they thought to use the hydrogen particles for their fusion reactors, shit hit the fan. Turns out these hydrogen particles were also contaminated, and since they got all into the ship, the ship AI reacted and did what it always does in this situation: IT WENT INTO LOCKDOWN!! ::woo as usual hahaha::

So the ship is now in automated control, the crew is locked down in various areas of the ship where hopefully some of them (like Tiana Vel and Kalvin Zior) have enough supplies to last, and the last entry is that the ship has arrived at its destination but the lockdown protocol is still active. So the ship isn't moving anymore, but the crew still can't do anything. The last entry mentions they will try manual override via external access, but they're not sure if that's going to work.

One of the last entries of the log was a code dump:
Code:
64 61 79 73 20 72 65 6d 61 69 6e 69 6e 67 2e 20 54 68 65 20 7b 20 20 20 23 20 32 63 6b 64 6f 77 6e 20 61 6e 64 20 73 74 69 6c 6c 20 6e 6f 20 63 68 61 6e 63 65 20 6f 66 20 65 73 63 61 70 65 2e 20 54 68 65 20 57 65 27 76 65 20 72 75 6e 20 6f 75 5e 32 32 58 2c 20 20 21 20 20 20 20 20 20 6f 6d 61 74 65 64 20 75 6e 6c 6f 63 6b 20 6f 66 20 74 68 65 20 73 65 63 75 72 69 74 79 20 73 79 73 74 65 6d 2e 20 52 65 6d 6f 74 65 20 63 6f 6d 6d 61 6e 64 20 73 68 6f 75 6c 64 20 77 6f 72 6b 2c 20 68 6f 77 65 76 65 72 20 77 69 74 68 20 6e 6f 20 63 6f 6e 74 61 63 74 20 77 69 74 68 20 63 6f 6d 6d 61 6e 64 20 77 65 20 63 61 6e 27 74 20 70 30 72 72 72 72 72 20 c3 85 20 20 c3 91 20 4d e2 97 99 20 2d 2d 2d 20 64 64 64 64 20 c3 9d 7a e2 95 a0

Hex translates to the following (not going to bother with spoiler, since it looks much better formatted as code):
Code:
days remaining. The {   # 2ckdown and still no chance of escape. The We've run ou^22X,  !      omated unlock of the security system. Remote command should work, however with no contact with command we can't p0rrrrr Ã  Ã Mâ --- dddd Ãzâ

Note the mention of "Remote command" -- I believe that means the command email is up and active. If I recall from the previous episodes, the command email is commandSPLATlainsy.net. I've sent an email just now but haven't heard anything back yet.

Has anybody tried to respond to the repertumSPLATfailtechnologies.com email address or the rion.gnuteSPLATfailtechnologies.com email address? I think I'll send a quick email just in case those provide any more info.

Tried to convert the calibration data as if it's hex and got: SB;EV:AA;EV:AB;IQ:48:AA;IQ:69:AB;DX?

Doesn't seem like much. Anybody got an idea?

Also, when i looked at the source code for the failtech website this was at the very bottom:
<!--

I think we're lost.
There seems to be an anomaly with the comms.
I think we're disconnected.
We're getting there and it's all starting.
