you're missing the point - if the DVD is intended for those who participated, it's only for those who participated. No one in the world has an inherent right to anything anyone chooses themselves to distribute. What you CAN do is contact the owners, and try to find a way to have them get you a copy, especially if you weren't privileged to even have the ability to be involved. But the fact that people in the UK and other countries managed to get involved, even without answering payphones, there really is no excuse...

and honestly, this topic has been discussed to death in other threads.

DO NOT ILLEGALLY COPY THIS DVD - it will not be illegal to copy it IF the owners give permission to people to distribute it their own free will. Any other methods ARE ILLEGAL.

Honestly, though, I'd rather have a bajillion copies of this DVD floating around with people who don't REALLY care, than to have one jack@$$ copy it and make it a legal issue.

Hey there snipey, show a little restraint and kindness, this is a stressful time for stranded crew. Wink

Dang, I sure hope there is a way to get this disk. From the blog it seems like you have to have been a trusted crewmember who had had their name recorded by the PM's at some point, either from the phones or when people sent in e-mails. Is a bummer really, since I did manage to answer a phone back in week 2 or 3 but that was before she was doing the live calls and getting names.

I guess the crucial point is, does "If you are absolutely unable to rendezvous at one of these locations, and you are on my list of trusted allies, please contact Dana" mean the PM's will have had to have some record of a crew member name for us to be able to get a DVD?

Now Kiro, I have a nearly unlimited supply of patience. However, answering THE SAME DARN QUESTION OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN IS WEARING ON IT. I'm trying to disseminate information, but it irritates me (and a lot of other people) when that information is covered up by people who're too much in a hurry to LOOK for the information posted all over the place, in numerous media.

So, I hope you can see where I'm coming from. I'm not mad at you, per se, and I'm not mad at anyone else who's new. I'm mad at the attitude it shows towards our hard work here at Unfiction. Most of us have been here since before the wav files started and in that time we've worked out a fairly organized way to do things. It gets frustrating when seemingly random people show up and refuse to even LOOK at that system, much less post within it.

So, I appologize if I'm snippy. I'm frustrated and irritated by lack of imagination and initiative. Cut me some slack, and I'll cut you some.

Edit: And as for stranded, I'm in the middle of New Mexico. I am the only beekeeper in the state, and it's a 15 hour drive to the nearest training station and at least 6 to any dvd pickup station. So, as such, I understand that you're stranded and want to be involved. Believe me, two months of doing this alone will do that to ya.

Tell Dana what you just told us in an email, and she might help you out. That's what I plan on doing, since I tried to answer an axon back in week 5 or 6, but no phone rang, then I submitted an axon, but got caught up in unexpected phone troubles when I was supposed to be getting a live SP call, and then was present to answer the axon tycho submitted on Halloween and today.

Make your case, worst possible scenario is you don't get a reply.

I hope, but don't believe, I'll qualify.

The sum total of my contribution to this ARG has been not really helpful comments on puzzles to go nowhere, and a single e-mail to the Sleeping Princess. But I've been following it, rabidly, since the dusty days of early August when the argument was over what exactly Wide Awake and Physical meant. Seems so long ago, now...

As soon as I hear that the event is over, I'll shoot a mail to danatwing. And hope. Because sometimes all you have is hope.

EDIT: HAH! Should look more often at my own posts. Apparently I followed this since the dusty days of Late July! Has it really been over 3 months?

The following my be long but its pretty insighful and well thought out

When I started this thread as my first post on this forum after lingering here for ILB info from late July i did not expect to get many responses, I was wrong. It seems many of you are in the same perdicament as me.

My problem isnt the fact im in "Guam" compared to axons and the cache locations. I just cant get a ride there and the axon in my area (in my town!) is broken (note my sig). Anyway theres such a large demand for the DVD's on these forums its amazing. I know many of you are from the U.K., Canada, and even Austrailia in some cases, others like me who lurked but for one reason or another didnt do much "official participation".
Ive been posting about the DVD alot in Unfiction over the last few days. Were all hoping this isnt like a giveaway and more like a gift to those who have watched ILB from July and not given up because it wasnt "HALO 2 PREVIEW DISK AUGUST 24th???!!!!111"
We kept up because this was beyond the trailer, our little world, our alternate reality where the Queen and the Princess played and a girl named Dana was going to China. Im not saying were entitled to anything. Playing the game has changed us all enough but it just would be nice to have something that tells us it was ok to sit in front of the computer listening to .wavs of strange people. It was ok to run to payphones in the middle of nowhere even if they didnt ring. It was ok to spout out Flea language to friends and family members. Heres the dvd...heres why i did it. Come let me show you.

i just hope Forty2wo entertainment will understand and show some pity? respect? idk...but we sure as hell have some value attached to it and wont SNAP IT IN HALF like some i have heard of on here tonight.

I would assume so. I don't know whether my actions would trigger that or not, my only in-game interaction was a few failed emails.. =/

This is 2004 and there are likely many more ILB addicted fans than there are dvd packages. Bungie care about their fans more than any other software house I can name, but that's not going to ease the sadness of those unable to join in these final celebrations.

The legal implications will not deter a hardened fan from downloading this dvd if they're unable to get it another way, so we could perhaps have a more realistic and unemotional view of the logistics of everyone getting a hard copy, and not demonise too heavily those whose love of the game and story is greater than their restraint. Capital letters and bold typeface shows a lack of sympathy, which is not going to discourage such behaviour.

I'm not standing up for software piracy, I am a musician who barely makes a living any more thanks to internet trading, but this was a game for internet savvy people who searched for unusual solutions to problems and obtaining this dvd will merely be the final puzzle for some, and maybe we shouldn't hate them for that.

the problem though is you can't just make an excuse or a reason to justify performing an illegal act. The fact of the matter is, it's illegal. The BEST thing anyone can do, is try to get the owner to give in to your requests, or get the law changed.

Crying "It's not fair!!" won't change the issue. Sticking it to the man and downloading it anyway won't change the issue. It's illegal. full stop. In this case, there are still ways to attempt getting the disc by legitimate means. If that's not possible, then it wasn't meant to be, and it's how the owners always intended it. Unfair? maybe... but it's their choice. if they see masses and masses of people throwing a riot, maybe they'll change their minds.

But please, DO NOT illegally copy the disc while it is considered illegal to do so.

I just shot off my e-mail, here's to hopin'. I included a link to my "loyalty" with a report I made in early September as a posting on this forum about a payphone visit success. I hope that works.

So... is nobody but me heeding Dana's request to wait until after this event is over? Or is it over and nobody told me?

I tried to heed her request and failed. However, Teek, I'll be sending another in the morning with an apology for my impatience. So... That didn't come anywhere near to answering your question.
