Looks neat....but being new to this I haven't a clue what I'm supposed to look for in those pics.

I believe the rules state that the clues within the 5 pictures will identify the Country, City and Exact location of the gold.
So, with that information in hand I've noticed repeat occurrences of: the dagger, feather, butterflies, Paris/Eifle Tower references, and the coin.
FrankenPaula has identified the stamps and coins as being from New Zealand...
The numbers on the tag, sort of look like a phone number... but that really doesn't make much sense.
That's where I am so far. Anyone else?

Small, correction, Gupfee identified the stamps, I identified the coin. They are both from New Zealand. My current thinking is that the lizard that appears twice is a Green Tree Gecko which can be found on the North Island of New Zealand.
I'm having the hardest time identifying the picture of the city, it kind of looks like the eiffel tower, but it's probably not. I haven't been able to find any city in New Zealand that has a landmark like that. [/u]

It looks like the Eiffel Tower to me. If it is the front of the postcard, and the postcard is being *sent* to New Zealand, maybe the person writing it is in/from France? I'll look for a match on the other spires in the picture later today.

Also, the poem on the last clue page is "XX" by Pablo Neruda. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971.
A biography on him and translation of XX can be found here (beware of the pop-ups)

If the tag is a phone number of sorts the first two numbers are Belgium's country code, what about a zip code instead, maybe a Paris zip code? Paris would be a nice spot as a getaway for two.

If it's a phone number, it would be for Antwerp, Belgium (country code 32, city code 3). However, I tried calling it and it's not a real number.

The game is over:
Quote:
The Hunt went on for 9 days and 30,000 people joined.
During that time 9 people got the general location correct.
The people who submitted the correct general location
were emailed a Word Clue for the 'Exact Location'.
To find the finalists the server looked for 6 things.
(location name, street address, city, country, spelling, misanswers)
If one was missing or incorrect you were out of the Hunt.
29 people were close.
All signups and entries were time and IP stamped to stop cheating.
All answers that were far below the average time solved
were disqualified. (answer sharing to beat the clock)
If you answered more than once you were disqualified.
Good Luck to those 9 people who played it fast, hard, and by the rules.
Look for the Gold Treasure Hunt II soon. We will have a different way to answer the puzzle.
