Avatar Keeps Disappearing

My avatar keeps on disappearing. I made sure it was no larger than the required among, and it appears for only so long until it becomes a "?". Am I using the wrong type of URL?

This happened to me several times to and here's what I did.
a. Go to Google Images and search for something
b. Click Search Tools and set parameters for the width to be exactly 100 px
c. Choose an image and click 'View Image' instead of going to the website itself

I got my image from another forum but maybe it can be from a wiki too.

interesting you say this, because your image is 200px wide - please fix it. Smile

on a side note, it is bad form to do that. find an image, and host it someplace, don't pull from someone else's website {forums or wiki even}. not a rule, just really bad form and rude to do - not to mention, if you get caught people can set up ways to keep you from stealing their stuff.

to be fair, Hu--man had already replaced his avatar with a 100px-wide mouse yesterday, before this comment.

A few more suggestions and observations:
Images used in a profile on another forum might be blocked except for logged-in members.
Inspect avatars you see here, using right-click or other tools, and see where the majority of them are being loaded from. A good bet is flickr and imgur and other free picture-hosting sites are the most popular.

http://avatars.jurko.net/ is a good site that offers free avatars. You'll likely find something you like.

Thanks to everyone who told me what I was doing wrong. I'm still new here, so please try to bear with me!
