Ah yeah, on that image it's quite clear that it could very well be a case of cut off numerals. In which case your judgement is also more likely to be correct.

I played a bit more with the spectrograph and also came to the conclusion that the lines where the numeral symbols cut at the top strongly resembles morse code when you fiddle a bit. It might be of importance, but it might just also be me fiddling way too much and finding things more by accident than by them being placed there on purpose. Here's what I'm seeing:

Oh good, I'm not the only person who thinks this might be a campaign.

I'm thinking this actually might be a sequel to ilovebees.

1) Several marketing directors for Xbox Live made some vague tweets about bees about a month ago.
2) There was an attempted viral campaign for halo 3, also called Iris, back in 2007?
3) As someone who keeps bees and was absolutely enraptured by ilovebees when it ran, i've been keeping track of when the domain expires because I want to scoop it up and use it to sell my own honey. It was originally set to expire in 2013 but was recently renewed for another year.
4) ilb is almost 10 years old. Good time for a reboot.
5) This is subjective but I feel a lot of Iris's posts - especially recently - have a lot of structural similarities with how Melissa wrote and developed in ilb.

I've seen speculation on Tumblr that the next step in the game is to find IRIS's other selves, and that they may be on other social networking sites. Anyone up for digging around Twitter and other blogging sites?

Yeah, I expect that there are different accounts for each self. I'll try and look for the other accounts, though I'm not entirely sure where to start!

in these two posts, it's most obvious these characters seem to be standing in for english letters. (they appear to begin with a greeting to the asker of the question [5 characters = hello, 2 = hi] and end with a farewell [3 characters = bye].)

still working on this. (unicode involves hexadecimal so i'm curious if hexadecimal will somehow be involved in decyphering, ugh. i'm completely out of my depth with this.)

This is probably a bit off the deep end, but I'm suspicious of the zdk1 blog. It claims to be the work of someone named Zethan Daniel Koch (ZDK) for a Digital Humanities class. A bit of Googling finds the website for the class in question at http://jej390.wix.com/digital-humanities#!individual-projects/c1gei , with Zethan's project listed with a link to a Youtube video of some Runescape gameplay. I'm not familiar with the game, so the video doesn't really mean anything to me, but it just looks like someone playing through a few quests.
It does appear to be a real class at the University of Pittsburgh, but there's a lot of stuff on there about false digital personas and AIs. What with the ZDK initials, it seems like a hell of a coincidence. I don't want to bother the guy, though, whether he's a gamemaster or not.
