[FILM] Finding Slender Man
new movie...

Hello fellow Slendy fans,

Please check out a found footage style movie i've made, inspired by the game Slender: The Eight Pages.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sx51E6bqt0o

Would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

Mark

Just a heads up:

Read those next time before posting, otherwise they'll ban you. Self promotion is frowned upon here.

I really thought we were finished with this kind of BS. Why is this kind of thing cranking up again?

Look... I changed the title to something that actually has meaning, and since it's a one-off (it IS a one-off, right?) I'll let this stand. But it's a good idea to read the rules of a community before you blindly stumble in and start throwing up posts.

It is also a good idea to get a basic feel for a community before you post an advertisement, and I don't think that yours is going to go over well. I know for a fact that there is no way I'll watch it.

If you are going to make a Slenderman movie, do it right. Don't base it off of S:TEP, but rather make it a contribution to the mythos as a whole.
Of course, that is assuming that the Slenderman mythology has potential as a movie in the first place.

You know SignerJ, I'm starting to lose faith that the slenderman mythos will transfer well to movies. Our only hope is THAC, let's see if they do it right, if they don't then it'll only get worse.

Although they're not even the ones actually making that film, so I don't expect much more than mediocrity there either.

Well Joseph is writing for it so I mean they're having some sort of impact. But you're right I have a feeling big Hollywood mostly owns this one.

Joseph is not writing for the movie. They did read the script, though. They said they liked it, so at least it has that going for it.

Huh...I was under the impression Joseph was writing for it for the longest time, oh well as long as they gave it the old "It's alright I guess" then that is a good sign indeed.

The writer also wrote the screenplay for "Splinter", which is a fun gruesome horror movie with lots of practical effects. The story doesn't really stand out though, so it doesn't give any sense of what his skills are like.

What worries me is that the director is the guy who did all the Paranormal Activity sequels. Maybe if it was the guy who did the first one I'd be more comfortable, but I'm extremely unimpressed by the rest of them - they're more like dull family dramas containing ghosts than they are horror movies. Hopefully that tendency to lose track of the plot doesn't happen here, but who knows.

Speaking of going off-topic! It's a shame the OP didn't follow the rules, because that was actually a pretty good short film. Kind of a weak start, but the editing and camera work were both well done. The undergrowth full of dead ferns was a wonderful location as well. Good find on that. As for the story, I can appreciate recreating the the original game specifically, though I feel like it didn't need those elements to work, necessarily. It could have easily stood on its own as another addition to the mythos. Also, while the suspense was great and the atmosphere was spot on, most of the jump scares didn't quite hit. A couple did though, so not bad.

On the whole, it's nice to see a Slenderman video that actually has a definitive ending. Uh...no offense to certain on-going series ;p

Ah yes, I guess it's only fair I make an on topic comment for derailing the self-promoted thread, here's my thoughts I typed out as I watched it:

Nice trigger warning on the opening, sure people are gonna bitch about that but I don't really care personally it kind of did its job.

The acting kind of fell short a bit as well and using the game as reference is really gimmicky, overall the only thing going for it is the camera work and effects but if the effects were used with proper timing and with (can't stress this enough) MORE VARIETY than just distortionohshithe'sthere, it would have been scarier.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
nice tentacles tho

Speaking of variety, did you notice in the credits that two different actors played Slenderman? I wish they'd taken advantage of that during the chase sequence.

Dude, that would have been sweet, slendy in shot, camera swing, then he's right there again.

That would have made me shit my pants.

Hey appreciate the feedback, apologies if i didn't follow the rules correctly, i can see how self promotion can be frowned upon i personally find it annoying too.

Having said that i do need to promote my work and I think fans of Slender Man should enjoy this. I did use 2 people to play slender man but on separate occasions of filming unfortunately- you're right though it would have been awesome to see Slendy then see him again all in the same take Very Happy

It's not just frowned upon it's usually grounds for immediate locking of the thread and letting it fade into the obscure void which is 20 something pages back, but my understanding is that in a circumstance where it is a completed work (like a movie) then you just get by. Just don't make a series and pull this shit. We don't like it because it kills immersion and takes the Alternate out of Reality Game (although this is just a movie so again, that's why it's not locked) not because we just simply find it annoying.

Anyway, next time you decide to do something tall dark and slender related or even something else fearverse or horror related you should try that effect, I bet it would open some eyes.
