True. I hadn't considered that as much. Maybe it really does make sense to split discussion up into multiple threads now that you put it that way...

Why don't we cross that bridge later, though? Right now the PMs are doing a story information catchup that we can use for that side of things. While it may be beneficial to split up discussions going forward, everything up to the point at which they finish their story catchup can be given to new players that way. We just need to focus on the puzzles and the technical side of catching up.

Even for that though, a forum may still be the most appropriate thing to use, since we can split that up the same way and possibly use spoilers.

Let's wait and see what sublimetime says before we do anything, though. I don't want to leave him out. He might have a different idea.

Wow, you guys are rocking it! I've been swamped with work lately so I apologize if i take long to reply over the next little while. I really appreciate you bringing the discussion to here though.

I think we should start by focussing on a step-by-step play through. What is SHOWN in the game and how to pass it or what it means. Passwords, answers to riddles, listing of hangman words, all that could be detailed. One post could be called, "Start Here" and it would detail how you wait for the moon to eclipse the sun then enter the anomaly, then play through the symbol matching game. This could then link to the next post, "Kevin Chard Birthday Timeline" which would then explain you need to answer the riddle in the garbage can (school) to then access the timeline. We could even write out the timeline in this post. This would then link to a post, "Hangman" which would explain the process of beating both hangman games and a listing of words we've found (the old wiki has a pretty big list of words) Then maybe this links to a post called, "Kevin Chard Audio Blog" which would then detail everything in that download all .zip download. This whole .zip could be dissected by us and broken down into this post. Theres a bunch of really great hidden shit in there, last I looked. After this comes, what, the first document in the converter tool thingy? So call this post, "the Converter Tool." Which I think in episode one is just 1 of 6 randomly given documents. Could upload and/or describe each of these 6 documents in this post. Then I think this is when the countdown happens and we're booted back to the Space screen, so call that post, "End of Episode One." which then leads to the weird-ass changes on the space screen. Which, if I remember correctly, was a future blog-of-sorts written by some dude from an observatory on the Moon as late as like the year 2100. We could post all these moon-base blog entries on this forum post. Theeeeeen the Greenberg Device is the next thing with all the memories and audio messages every few levels. This stuff could mostly be copy/pasted from the in-game forum post where Vidal details all the memories and such found by people. So a whole post about that. Which then leads to BOTH the alternate timeline in-game forum and then episode two starting at idgi1.net. And on and on from there! One post links to another and another. But then if you look at the forums listing people can pick and choose which section they are on if they get stuck or whatever.

But I think making specific forum posts for each area and then linking them all to each other is the best way. People can then focus on specific posts and then once they've exhausted that section of the game, they can move on both in the game and on this play through guide.

So we would keep each section thread open to more posts, but perhaps only the three of us can actually edit that original post. This keeps everything clean but then still lets people openly discuss any part of the game they want.

I think perspective is really important in this game and so we can't just TELL people what things mean because it all means something different to each person. Does that make sense? I for one believe Henry is evil as shit and the Church are the good guys. I think IDGI is going to pull a big revelation that the Consortium are actually BAD. I've thought this ever since we learned that Malcolm mostly went off on his own with regards to taking over Henry and causing all the insanity in the alternate timeline. The Church had nothing to do with that or so said Pearlman in an email (I think it was an email?) claimed.

I'm really tired and had a few too many drinks tonight, so I hope I am making any sense. but this is sort of what I'm thinking would be easiest. We just need to decide WHERE to do this. Do we start our own forum somewhere? Do we ask Unfiction to actually set us up our own forum? I know we tried this before, but I honestly think it will help. Because I agree that to an extent the game is linear, but it's more about what people believe from the information they are receiving. And then of course episode two DOES split into two different story lines. Choosing to side with the Church or Henry.

So maybe a list of forum posts would look something like this:

Start Here!
Kevin Chard Birthday Timeline
Hangman
Kevin Chard Audio Blog Puzzle
The Converter Tool
End of Episode One
2100 Moon Observatory Blog
The Greenberg Device
Alternate Timeline Forum
New Dialing Coordinates & idgi1.net
Guardian Church or Henry?
Kevin Chard Audio Blog Unlocked
The Email Program
Hidden Dialing Coordinates (detail where to find all the hidden codes where one set leads to the very first in-game trailer thing they released)
The Converter Tool 2.0

and so on and so forth, but each one would link to each other where appropriate, thus creating a big spider-web of information that could help anyone at any stage in the game.

need to go to bed but I hope I'm making any sense here. haha

Well I don't mind it, sounds a bit more complex than I would think a general guide might be (if we were going for general).

I'm currently working on archiving all the files into the forums I mentioned before since the archive will be helpful even if we don't use it for discussion also.

Wish me luck on that!

And by the way I think I have a new good candidate for our new blogger.

At one point the blogger mentions the Xalapa police when he has to relocate. I found it strange that the person would mention the police from Xalapa when he might not be near it. Which would mean it probably would place him near the general area of the city.

Then going off of that this person must have
A: Access to files from Worldview (High access?)
B: Must have worked with the guardian church at one point.
C: Talked/worked with Melinda Bellhurst
D: Knows about the different dimensions.

The only two people I know that fit this bill almost perfectly is Brayden Shaw or Kevin Chard.

According to Henry, Brayden actually has a house "somewhere outside the city area" and doesn't actually live in the facility like everybody else. If something were to go wrong, then Brayden Shaw would probably be the one to survive/know the truth as he did work closely with Henry.

Vidal asked me my thoughts on who the person adding the messages is, but I'm still mulling over the information for the moment.

Is anything going on with this now? Before I kinda stopped following this because things just got so complicated that I didn't understand anything that was going on anymore. But I saw that they are making a real game out of this? Cool!

As far as I know, things are kind of on hold right now. They're a very small company and they don't have the resources to do ARG stuff during this final push to finish the game (should be done in the next couple months!). Once the game RTMs, they should be able to pick up where they left off. In the meantime, Vidal's busy. Wink

If you like them on FB (https://www.facebook.com/CONSORTIUM.GAME), they are doing a recap of the ARG in installments. So far we've only had the first installment (again, due to the big crunch), but more are still coming eventually! The first installment is here: https://www.facebook.com/CONSORTIUM.GAME/posts/10152271384915663

I'm actually like you, haha. Being one of my first ARGs, it didn't occur to me to take notes or anything and I COMPLETELY lost track of what all had happened once things started getting so slow. So I'm looking forward to the catchup posts just as much as you might!

Vidal returns!

Hello again everybody!
We have a new development! It's mainly just an in-game 'get ready for the release of our videogame' post, but there's some new content, so I thought I'd at least bump the thread with pointing it out.

http://corporate.interdimensionalgames.com/2013/10/06/approaching-the-abyss-in-awe/

Let's hope this leads to more new activity to come!

Oh my great gog. I totally forgot about this ARG, which is sad, considering it's my first. Should I just restart the whole thing? Iirc, this was one that seemed like you could progress on your own, reading the thread as you go to help piece things together.

If I understand right, what you're saying is... They are making a REAL video game? Surprised
It -has- been too long.

Yep!

This has always been a promotional ARG (all the professional ones are, really).

The game on Steam Greenlight (the most up-to-date promotional page): http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=112110662

Vote! Very Happy

Man... Now I feel really proud that I took part in this. I just thought it was going to be a really good story. Though now that I look back, it did have this feeling of something bigger.

Also, I can't seem to view the whole image here:
http://corporate.interdimensionalgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Knight18Reporting-.jpg

Only a small part of the top loads. Can someone post it as an attachment or something?

Protip: When you have images loading halfway like that, hold down the shift key on your keyboard and click the refresh button. That refreshes without the cache (AFAIK, all browsers have that command).

If that doesn't work, I'll download and attach for you.

Some help with archive building
an old loose end

Okay, so cherrytree and I have been working on putting together a file archive. However, neither of us remember the "X and Y" files from the first episode's "file maze" being solved.

Aside from trying a brute force attack with a MacBook, I'm not forcing my way into those files any time soon.

There's a file that clearly seems to be a "key" to solving the first set of them (what I'm focusing on for now). It reads (note that the X and Y are found in the 9th folder, so the 9 is not a clue but a label):

Code:
0xx021
  +
0xx041
  +
0xx083
  =
9-Y

And then
Code:
0xx021 + 0xx041 + 0xx074 + 0xx083 = 9-X

I've only been looking into Y, so far. Those are all valid audio file names from the maze, and there are bits of them that are hard to hear, but nothing in any of them really screams "password," even after playing around with editing them together, especially since it's talking about adding them together somehow...

I'm attaching all the relevant files in a self-contained zip, so you don't have to hunt for them. If anyone can help us tie up this (and then the at least one other) loose end from this part of the game, it would be great! (and, of course, red herrings are never out of the realm of possibility, too)
XY-1.zip

Unfortunately, this file is no longer in our archives.

only at 98%
be sure to drink your ovaltine...

Hello everyone! I'm probably the late horse in the race but I've spent the last 4 days cracking down on this A.R.G. after finally getting around to playing Consortium. I'm liking the game so far but it wasn't until I was contacted by everyone's favorite AI that I heard about this A.R.G. and began to dig in further. Well after obsessing over this A.R.G. for the past 4 days, reading up on forums, sifting through the files and finding hidden codes, battling through the Greenberg Device and taking Henry's side, answering his riddles and finding hidden messages, gathering all the coordinates for x-044##72 and some for x-846##99 for IDGI-1, digging deeper into the mystery in hopes of finding answers, finally calibrating IDGI-1's coordinates for x-044##72, hit enter, establish the connection I've been working hard to figure out...and...well...
allow me to relate my experience:
http://youtu.be/zdA__2tKoIU?t=35s

Imagine my surprise. x.x;

Anyway here's where I stand. At 98% I have all coordinated to x-044##72 calibrared, about 6 of x-846##99 calibrated and am still trying to figure out Henry's little "stick-man" software where you drop the stick figure in the hole and are brought to a window. no matter what I type in this window I can never get anything but "processing input..." (see attachment below).
And also, like duke9509 and cherrytree98765 I'm stumped on the whole "X,Y" .zip passwords myself.

To be honest I'm left a bit disapointed with what I'd acheived, but I'd like to atleast gain 100% status with a full understanding of what I've done thuse far, what I've read and how it connects with the story in-game. That way I'm no-longer "that guy" who doesn't know a thing about the Gaurdian Church or what the hell "The Seeker" is. Laughing
Any help would be most appreciated, and if this thread is dead, do feel free to private message me with whatever details I need.

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you're at around 98%-100%, you're done. The meter is a bit finnicky.

And that window that isn't working for you had some content pushed to it before it was ready (I think). So I'm not surprised it's been rendered non-functional. Just wait until the stuff surrounding Consortium wraps up, and I'm sure the ARG will pick back up eventually.

Great to have you aboard!

(P.S., If you've seen me on Steam marked as a dev, I'm just a lead tester. I was an ARG player first. I've kept myself in the dark on ARG stuff so I can keep playing)
