Amazing ending, but the bit about the Flea is awfully strained.

He's a very small, simple program. His purpose was to seek the artifact, find its location, and reveal the coordinates to the Covenant. And he has to be small and inconspicuous enough to avoid detection by the Operator.

For a small, simple program, it's *incredibly* crafty. It manages to outwit SPDR and persuade Melissa (an incredible feat!) Then it manages to figure out the dire situation on Earth, with an artifact that needed deactivating. And then it manages to fake some voices, with sufficient individual personality and accuracy that Durga couldn't tell the difference.

This does not sound like the capability set of a small program. It sounds like a program that's far more sophisticated even than the reunited Durga.

It is not crafty at all really..adaptable yes.

you mention it outsmarting the SPDR, well the SPDR itself is described as a dumb AI. The Flera was ablt to adapt though and the SPDR wasn't.

You mention his persuasion of Melissa. How hard was that.. a very disorganized AI that had no clue of her name or even where she was. The Flea had learned how the SPDR communicated, and presented himself as a newer version. Not hard at all..nor sophisticated.

You mention what it finds out.. everything it finds out is info that WE gave him. He didn't find it, we gave it to him. Besides it already KNEW of the artifact..thats why he was placed in Melissa.

Now the Herzog Mckaskill part does seem a bit above and beyond what we knew of him. But it is quite possible he was aware WE were watching him so it would not reveal his entire grasp of our language. Even with him trying to hide who he was..he DID make mistakes...however alot of us went the wrong way with the info.

So all in all it does NOT sound like a program even more sophisticated than Durga, it was just smarter than us and the SPDR Razz

The best .wav is thanks_for_coming. It sets the game up perfectly. The opening cutscene in the game is the award ceremony for master chief.

Also the flea was trapped in the server with Melissa, a disoriented AI. Melissa had Durga doing some sleep spying. The Flea could have been using Melissa for some sleep plotting.

Is this your spec or a spoiler? If it it's the latter... then you're a real idiot and you should remove it immediately.

It's been revealed in an Official Source, I believe. Should have been spoiler-boxed though.

I just can't believe how crafty the flea's trick was. Did anybody actually see that coming? Pretending to be Herzog was unbelievably sneaky. In retrospect it seems so obvious - only after the accident do we hear him using the flea's words. It all makes sense, and it was staring us in the face the whole time. We were all just so glad that Herzog was still alive we didn't even think to question it.

When I heard Melissa say the herzog call was faked, it clicked. Crafty little bastard.

I don't think we will see any of our charactes in Halo 2. I will be hated for saying this, but I kind of hope they don't. A slight mention, easter egg, or somethign of the sort will be cool, but thats it. I am reminded of fanfiction(which is essentially what ILB is, a fscking GOOD one). Some fanfictions are actually rather good, most are pretty bad. If the ILB characters show up in game, it would just kind of, spoil it. Like a bad fanfic of the Sonic the Hedgehog saturday morning cartoon, in which Robotnik's lackey interacts with Knuckles to steal super-anti-chaos-emerald, they simply don't belong in the same context. The juxtaposition introduces high amounts of suckiness.

(note to self: you're ranting and making obscure references to things most people haven't heard of, shut up)

When I was listening to the clips at work, I had a sense of loss, coupled with helplessness and a touch of denial. I connected to these characters, and hearing the air raid sirens, I realized that they weren't going to make it. Listening to durga in "be_with_me". She's acting like someone who knows like she is going to loose the one she loves, but just wants to hold on for just a little longer before its all over. It was fscking depressing. Unless this "chapter 13" on the DVD has something I REALLY need to hear, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Let's remember and love the characters for what they were, but let's face it: The're gone, and not comming back.

Alright, I've been morbid enough for one evening. Time to go cause trouble on IRC.

In the part where kamal talks about people thinking time is a river, but it's actually an ocean, he sounded JUST LIKE the Prince of Persia. I'm 90% sure that it's the same voice actor

Nice call. Yuri Lowenthal it is.

There is another wav file and an exact answer to who faked those Herzog conversations. It's not who you think!

Except,

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the flea didn't fake the recordings ... Melissa did.

Man, just when you think you've nailed down the big twist, along comes another, followed by another. Round and round and round it goes...

That final wav from Melissa is heart-breaking, by the way. She loves us! Embarassed

Yup, the DVD confirms that. Awsome little inside joke.

I'm also pretty sure Jersey's band idea is another in-joke, since the voice actor, Zan Passante, is primarity a musician.

"And here I practiced a deception on you. I am sorry for that: but war demands the efficient use of assets."

Did anyone else read this too fast and read "..efficient use of asshats." or am I the only one reading too much fark?
