Ah, the sourness seems to be subsiding Rolling Eyes Wink
Please, can we all remember that this is not the note we want to end this ARG on?

I came back to look at the posts about the training missions and a significant number of posts in many threads (this included) were becoming... well... bitter and ungrateful.

Please don't forget that the PMs have gone to a huge amount of effort, and so has this community - so I for one plan to wait for the Curtain to be pulled aside and hear from the PMs directly Smile

If those of us who don't have a DVD can't get one by emailing Dana, or by buying one at Bungie Store, and the PMs prefer that we don't get ISOs from the net - then so be it. That is life Smile
But I will take heart from the fact that I've experienced an incredible drama, a wonderful ARG, found a new community to be part of, and I've got access to many other mementos to commerate the Haunted Apiary:

From the very cool items at CafePress, to the wonderful wallpapers and artwork from people like bang3r, ADB, pants, pattern, scumbag, astute_falcon and many others (just find the graphics thread) Very Happy
Plus we can't forget the incredible bee logo by Ceantari that has become ubiquitous everywhere! You know - artwork of that calibre would normally cost a bundle - and we got it all for free! Very Happy

So just remember - for those who didn't get one DVD, or a Crewmember lanyard: there was so much more we DID get, and CAN get, so just take a moment to realise there are many ways to commemorate your time here and they are open to everyone Wink

Good night all.

I've mailed her about getting one in the UK, so here's hoping...

What we have here is a failure to communicate. Everyone take a Prozac.

I have no doubt that Marzian talked to a PM, who doesn't want others profiting off of his/her hard work. Marzian's reaction is perfectly understandable in this light of that conversation. I think this will clear things up though...

This is probably a communication gap somewhere. The creatives want to protect their baby, the execs want the message spread. I think the execs win in any disagreement, since they write the checks.

I explicitly asked the Xbox product manager, Chuck Blevens, if copying and distributing the DVD was kosher at the Chicago event. He said it was. Who is he? He is the head of this marketing project. He is the one who writes the checks. He's the one in charge of these special events, including the upcoming one in NY on the release date Midnight Madness. You could say that he is, "in the know."

Here is how the Chicago conversation went:

Chuck Blevens: We assume this will get out one way or another, and that's okay with us. Feel free to share it with your friends and those who couldn't be here.

Me: "Would it be okay if we went so far as to make an .ISO of the dvd and distribute that?"

CB: Sure.

We later spoke at Dennys about the whole H2 piracy thing. He said MS will really go after anyone who pirates Halo2, and they are very much against piracy. Piracy is a huge deal to him and his team.

Summary: XBox is anti-piracy, but pro-advertisement. ILB is an advertisement. They want it distributed. If this is all a misunderstanding, I'm sure they will tell us to stop without unleashing flaming ninjas on anyone.

As CB said, the greatest thing that happened after the H2 leak was that the entire community was outraged, turning in pirates, refusing to spread spoilers and screenshots, and discouraging the act unilaterally. So, Marzian, good job.

The difference here is that Halo2 was supposed to be a black project until November 9, and it's the major cash cow for MS this fiscal year. Pirating that hurts the company. ILB is a promotion for Halo2. MS pays money to get the word out. Viral marketing. The thing about viral marketing is that the virus doesn't get very far if you make it illegal to spread. They want us to spread it.

So, there's a bittorrent download on the beewiki. If you can't get it through the swag lottery (which you can, as we've secured around 50 extras). If the PM's are against this, they will let us know in a civil manner. Let's all be civil to eachother in the meantime.

Take a deep breath and reread what I said.

Getting someone to burn me a copy of the DVD = Royal pain in ass for 2 people plus the time it takes them to burn it plus shipping. (Legal crap not withstanding.)

Getting an original DVD = Sending a quick e-mail asking politely and including my mailing address plus shipping.

Or maying we could show up at the Bungie offices disguised as A BAND!

No offense Mazian, but I don't believe you. Many others are saying the people they talked to (including the head-honcho) that it's OK, and that they don't care.

Sounds to me like perhaps a retraction is in order.

I know this conversation kind of took a turn towards the piracy argument, but the first thing I noticed about the disk is the XBOX Live logo on it. Has anyone put this disk on a Live Aware Xbox yet and seen if anything happened?

sloth, yes they have, and it did nothing. It's a normal DVD, xbox's do not recognize it as a loadable game disc.

Ok, thanks for the quick turn around Zander.

Glad to hear everyone who made it to the locations got their disks. Does anyone know if Dana will respons if she is sending a disk or it will just magically show up? Because I'm gonna try my damndest to get a hold of one of those DVD's.

No, not everyone.

A few people of importance received very swift responses, most people have not received any response. If you can bear waiting for a 34 hour download, there is a bit-torrent of the DVD on the wiki, but I don't have a DVD burner so don't even know if I'll be able to view it if I get it.

This situation is infuriating and should not be forming many people's last experience with the game.

I've tried to maintain this viewpoint:
4orty2wo's invovlement was masterful. Its just that when they handed it back to Bungie/MS for the night, things went crazy.
So, to me, ILB is one thing and Nov. 4th is another.

Absolutely going to download it, but there is nothing quite like having the real thing if you know what I mean. I emailed Dana at about 10pm local time (Mountain) so maybe I'll get lucky.

And sorry to hear some people didn't. Everyone knows the actual Beekeepers deserved it most.

The link to the torrent is not working on the beewiki (I get an sql error). Can someone post an alternate link here? Or better yet, just post the torrent file?
