[OT] Tell me about your experience with MH I'm writing about MH, looking for interviews from players Hello everyone,
Sorry for poor formatting, I'm kinda new to this. Anyway, I'm an academic, and I'm writing my master's thesis on Marble Hornets. As part of my research, I would like to interview some players about your experience playing the game - in particular, I'd like to talk about your interest in the narrative and the puzzle-solving approach to following the story. If anyone is interested, let me know in this thread and we'll talk about it. Thanks!

I'll be up to helping you in any way I can. Good luck with your thesis!

Yeah, please make sure you don't call us "players" and don't call this an ARG. If you're gonna wright about it, make sure you just identify it as a youtube series.

The better term would be ARE (Alternate Reality Experience).

Okay, absolutely. I should have been more careful with my terms, my apologies. I like 'ARE', that's a really helpful way to look at it. Can I send you a PM with the questions I've been using?

If you need some input for someone with ARE experience (Marble Hornets) and ARG experience (ilovebees, Last Call Poker, Repo Men ARG), feel free to message me. I was an active participant in the ARGs, which included driving many hours to get to some of the destinations where an event would happen with IG importance.

Would love to, especially as I'm an academic too, but I'm not a game person or really an ARE person. I came to MH originally because I'd stumbled upon the Slender Man myth by accident (after reading some discussions online of Stephen King's "The Man in the Black Suit" and seeing someone try to make a connection, which there isn't, between King's story and the Slendy myth). I then started watching one because I love creepy shows and movies (though I don't spend a lot of time watching horror, terror, or paranormal stuff), and, two, because I'm trying to branch out into writing my own webseries teleplay (black comedy instead of paranormal investigation). I'm more interested in the art and in the storytelling--though the codes and the myth creation aspects hooked me too (I'm also someone who spends occasional time reading up on the Zodiac Killer and thinking I'll somehow solve the 340 Cipher, even though I have no clue how to proceed with code breaking).
But good luck to you on your master's! In what discipline is it, by the way, if you don't mind my asking?

I really can't see Marble Hornets as anything other than a YouTube show that's maybe set in real time.

Agreed. I mean, by this rationale the fans of House M.D. are engaged in an ARE too...

Hey guys - thanks for your responses. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, it's been a hectic few days. I'm compiling questions now and I'll be responding to you all individually. Thank you so much!

If you still need people shoot me a message as well.
And we're calling it an ARE because there's SOME interaction between fans and characters in the series.
