i don't want to be annoying but...

i don't want to be annoying or anything, but, i mean... i drove 9 hours... and i kinda expected a little more organization, and i definitely expected to at least get to play halo 2 for like 5 minutes instead of not at all. the sense of disorganization came from several sources: the movie theatre staff had no idea about this event before they came in for their shift that day even though they were the ones mostly running it; we were told on several occassions different information about what line to stand in and what verification we needed to have. people with no verification just had to stand in another line, got admitted, and got a raffle ticket; having the La Quina hotel guy help us get our confirmations printed out was cool, but the confirmations were used to allow us in and the crew roster was used to get our DVD and then a raffle ticket was given to us; the key thing here is that everyone had a raffle ticket, and only real beekeepers had their name on the crew roster, but the raffle tickets were used for the give-aways of x-box live, halo 2, etc.; also people were just jumping up to play for anyone's name being called and when eb asked the guy in charvge about priority being given to people who travelled a long ways they did not take that into consideration Sad

how hard would it have been to not make the system link games so darn long, and limit them to 5 minutes if they knew they were just going to be packing up at 11 and leaving?? it doesn't take stellar organization skills to come up with a system like that.

i'm glad i got the DVD... but atlanta was 6 hours closer. i guess everyone can tell me i was an idiot for driving that far to the event, and thats fine, its healthy criticism. but maybe dana or mel could have warned me in my confirmation email or something.

i know eb shares my sentiment at least in part because i spoke with him at the event. and i can't speak for TwilighT but i know he paid a lot of money for a plane flight and hotel room out there.

i do want you guys to know that i'm not trying to rain on the parade, i think it was really cool that this event even existed and that we all got to meet up. i just think they could have been a little more aware of some people's situations and they definitely could have had better organization. i guess the lesson here is, you get what you pay for... and, well, ILB was free... so... yea. Confused if anyone reading this could just make me feel better, thats really all i'm looking for, some sympathy, a nice pat on the head and a congratulations for driving from knoxville. Embarassed

tycho, I absolutely hear you. I think you have every right to feel the way you felt. As nice as Chuck was to meet with us afterwards, I was a little surprised that he and the other MS/XBox/movie theatre peeps didn't wake up a bit sooner and really give the beekeepers their due. It was stressed so especially that this event was focused on 'us,' the crewmembers (in e-mail, on the 404 page, through later Dana e-mails, even Chuck himself said so at Denny's), that having them run through all this tickets and not use the list, and not recognize us fully was just awful.

What XBox needs is the Buzzkill/angelo 1-2 punch, I tell you what. angelo, I know you were offering wedding coordinator services by the end of the night (hee!), but if you didn't get one of Chuck's business cards, I should give you his contact info, and you should offer to be National Director of Community Events That Could Possibly Get Really Messed Up and Annoy the Players Highly.

My sympathies, Tycho. That is absolutely insane that you didn't get a chance to play after coming all that way. I was kind of surprised how gamer-focused the event was given that it was (likely) the beekeepers who were traveling such long distances, and a lot of the gamers seemed to be locals who didn't know or care about "ilovebees." I think it's entirely appropriate to suggest that people like you should have been given first dibs (or any dibs!) on playing.

Sorry, not me. I was just going to ask the same question.

The Microsoft guy's name was Chuck Blevens - and yes, he deserves a special thank you for coming out with us and entertaining our questions.

Also, I'd like to extend a personal thank you to everyone who came to the event, especially those of you that crossed state line(s). The chance to meet you and talk face-to-face was really special. I hope the long, sleep-deprived drives and flights were worth it.

I'm just glad that I to hang out with angelo and defender. Those guys are some of the coolest people you will ever meet.

Team Double Barrel traveled further (in miles), but OK is OK with me
</bad pun>

Meeting the Goddess Squad and other beekeepers was my main reason for comming. Getting a DVD was my proof of trip (to my wife). Winning a prize pack just reimbursed me for the trip. I would have had fun even if I didn't play H2 (which I didn't).

Sure it was not fair to the loyal beekeepers, but there's nothing to whine about because we were promissed nothing acept admission. Now I'm going to finally get some sleep.

Yeah. Me, too. Except for the part about the prize pack.

I just wanted to say that Denny's was a blast and now i feel really crappy for not getting into the chats more often. I wish i had only known how cool you all were before! Very Happy

Anyway, angelo, you're a pimp. straight up. there's no better way to say it.

P.S. I got to play in the very last LAN game because i literally begged Chuck to let me. The begging hurt my pride, but that was quickly dismissed when i had the most kills in our slayer match. I LOVE HALO2!!!!!!!!!!!....AND BEES!!!!!!!!!

Wow, this really a huge thread!

I just wanted to chime in here and echo that I had lots of fun last night both at the event and afterwards at Denny's. It was really cool getting to meet everyone and being able to talk at length with others about ILB (something that most of us probably don't get to do on a frequent basis).

I'm glad everyone seems to have made it home safely! We had several people from all over the country show up in Chicago.

Cheers! Smile

Yeah, it was a lot of fun to hang out with fellow beekepers at the back of the theater.

The other people there (halo fanboys/ random forum people) may have gone there with strangers, but I felt that I was among friends Smile

To add to the "Best Memories" list:

Waiting in line and chatting with everyone around me like I knew them

Ignoring the gameplay to all huddle and work on the puzzle

Asking the guy at the back of the theater for an Ethernet cable

Cheering "Dual Wield! Dual Wield!"

Going up to play on system link, and having the guy next to me teach me the controls.

Also, thanks to the guy who sat next to me for putting up with my stupid Halo questions. (Forgot his name, but he was the one that knew the mathematical formula for an ellipse)

The crowd spirit was (mostly) positive and POWERFUL.

It was truly awesome.

I am sorry not all of the Beekeepers got to play. That was the only big kick-in-the-pants.

Nope... It's ME! I JUST got home and will be typing it up tonight. Should I pm it to everyone on the list or just post it here?
