I noticed that and also the other the Halo 2 auctions .. xboxes and games. I was wondering if someone who had won those prizes had instead decided to just turn it around on ebay

if so ... it just upsets me to the core.

Yes, that is very wrong.

Distributing the DVD's for free is fine -- no one loses money, no one gains money for others' work, and Halo2 gets free advertising.

But when people distribute the DVD's for a profit, that is very illegal, and even says so on the DVD's themselves. I reccomend that we report these auctions to Microsoft and eBay, as they are all illegal.

To help report these listings:

Go to:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_inline/report_listing.html

Choose:
1) Report a listing policy violation or prohibited (banned) item
2) Prohibited (banned) items
3) Violated copyrights/trademarks or sold a counterfeit item

Click email near the bottom of the page.
(You will have to log in.)

In the box asking for item numbers, put these in (please don't submit the same numbers twice):
8144468390 , 8144511054 , 6337818349
--Added: 3:30 PM CST Nov. 5, 2004--
8144521767 , 8144529179 , 8144535330 , 8144541349
--Added: 11:00 AM CST Nov. 6, 2004--
8144597709 , 6337955080
--Added: 12:00 AM CST Nov. 6, 2004--
8144699775

I will keep that list updated as best I can.

Thanks for helping protect Halo Smile

Thats what I was thinking as well.....but I don't really know where to do that on ebay.

I mean it's one thing to just turn around and give it away to someone else, but when someone is charging 50 bucks for it!!!?!?!!!!11!!! Thats just plain wrong.

EDIT: Nevermind....you just added it to your post Smile

I say report them. If they went and got the stuff, and all they want to do is make money that makes me mad. I wish so much I could have gotten the DVD. I'm still hoping for Dana to send me one. But for someone to be selling them, that's just wrong, and illegal. Evil or Very Mad

At the event, the PM's encouraged us to share the DVD with our friends. After the event, I asked a PM explicitly if he intended for us to copy and to distribute the DVD freely. He told me "Yes". The DVD is to generate interest in Halo 2. Halo 2 makes Microsoft lots of money, so Microsoft grants you the right to copy this work freely, so long as you don't try to make money on it. Look for it on a bittorrent near you, soon.

I also e-mailed some of the bidders letting them know this was a free disc and to try e-mailing Dana for a copy.

>< Some people would do anything to make a buck.

They don't get those for free. You have to buy a happy meal to get them. And in any case, I'm pretty sure those don't say not to resell them. The DVD's say it right on the disc.

That doesn't make it right.

And NMZ, with all due respect, how do you know that it is illegal? The cost they are selling it for could be for "shipping and handling".

Because
1) Each of those auctions explicitly states a s/h price.
2) I'm fairly certain that would be against eBay's policies, as the bid is the price of the item itself, and s/h fees are seperate.

eBay wrote:
Giveaways, raffles, or prizes
Listings that promote giveaways, random drawings, or prizes are not permitted. Such promotions are highly regulated and may be unlawful in many states.

...

Listing techniques that evade eBay's fee structure
Listings may not circumvent eBay's fees. Examples include:
...
*Low prices but unreasonably high shipping or handling costs

Update: Looks like another one popped up. Keep reporting these, unless some official tells you otherwise, please Smile

TheHulk,

In the time I have lurked and participated here people have said some silly things. Heck, I've even said a stupid thing or two. I've never had the desire to flame anyone……

until now……

The difference is;
You purchase a happy meal. As part of that meal a toy is included. Therefore you indirectly purchased the toy. Therefore, selling it is like selling any other item you have bought and paid for. It is your property and you can sell it.

On the other hand;
There's a free promotional event. At that event you are handed a freebie. That freebie is free to distribute amongst your peers. They've even cleared you to copy it to distribute it further. Taking intellectual property and selling it to the highest bidder when it was given to the general public for free is unethical, slimy, repugnant and just plain wrong.

I understand that capitalism is king. But this game and the bonds it formed are not for sale. It was given as a gift by Bungie and Microsoft to the public. I don't care if it ends up selling thousands of copies of Halo 2, the creators never bombarded you with Halo 2 advertising, their not forcing you to buy the game. This was an event, for a lot of people it meant something. To trivialize that down to dollar signs because you're an idiot fan boy who didn't get the free copy of Halo 2 you were expecting is reprehensible.

With my 2 cents given, I surrender the soap box.

Zoom

P.S.: Please don't double post in the same thread.

[EDIT] Okay I got a little angry at the Xbox Clan exclusivity posts. There might have been a little flame there. [/EDIT]
