OK, to all the people complaining about "why are you filming this?", I mean, if they weren't, we'd never hear the full story, right? No matter what, the writers have to find SOME kind of excuse for them to be filming.

I think people need to come up with better reasons than just 'Oh I got a camera and thought it would be cool to start filming myself - oh no something weird is following me!!1'

So I wasn't sure where else to post this, but is there any way to kind of...sort through the Slender Series to find something that you might be interested in, based on its content?

There's only one thing I want to see, and that's people who actually care about the mythos, people who want to create something new and enthralling. I'm sick of seeing dumb kids with camcorders stealing their dad's workclothes just because their friends showed them slender or whatever. I know that a LOT has been done in the slenderverse and it's hard to be original, but try to be authentic. For anyone here who's a member of The Slenderverse Fandom FB page might remember a thread back a few months ago about these kids who were making a series and almost mimicked the events of TT's Severance frame by frame, word for word. A guy I met on Omegle makes a series but he names his videos with entry numbers, the same as MH, he even downloads their videos and uses the same distortion sounds effects, despite the fact that I told him a decent distortion sound can be made in audacity in literally thirty seconds. Luckily the slender craze has died off somewhat and the real creators have stuck on. And lastly, can people stop putting in distortion randomly and putting in a slendy appearance at the end of every video? The gravity of his presence is largely due to how unpredictable he is and how he can show up whenever, wherever. If the camera blares with a crappy pre-made final cut/iMovie effect and we see a midget with a business suit with a teacloth over his head it isn't exactly scary.

I agree, as many others do. Does anyone have any suggestions for new and engaging slender series?

And how do you create those distortion sounds, and what was this series where kids mimicked the same dialogue from severance, word for word? I'd actually like to see that.

A crazy idea would be to draw inspiration from movies/tv shows that aren't horror. Mix things up a little.

In Audacity, it's a free audio editing programme, you can download it here.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net
There are generating options there where you can create tones, static and clicks. Basically just generate any one of those, layer them even and just plaster them with effects until you're happy. Then export them and put them into your video/clip. Might I suggest downloading the LAME extension as it will allow you to export into .wav which is a better quality file, bit bigger, but better.

EDIT: And if you're going to use Audacity actually use it, DarkHarvest00 use it for their sound effects and only ever use boring tones with no effects put on.

As for this mimicking video, here you go. Enjoy the cringe

And then maybe they try to investigate during livestreams (that get recorded and put on youtube), kind of like the "The Sick Thing That Happened To Emily When She Was Younger" segment of V/H/S.
. That's a great idea if it can be pulled off.

Also, PLEASE GOD, N O M O R E P R O X I E S . We already have Masky, Hoody, The Observer, HABIT, and whatever other proxies exist. We're all tired of those, no matter how cool your mask looks.

Have to agree, although HABIT's a pretty good character (when in EMH only [and even there, Evan seems to be channeling a bit too much of Dennis Hopper as Frank Booth in Blue Velvet to me]; don't like the TT crossover appearances), and I still don't think it's ever been said that Masky and Hoody fit the definition of "proxy" (as defined by the Slendy fandom, apparently--I agree with anyone who says that in the MH universe, The Operator doesn't use proxies; something else is going on).

Since we're all clearly sick of "Proxies," what alternatives do people have in mind? I frequently say that there should be multiple characters who know different things, but I've heard the complaint before that it's difficult to get enough actors. There's always the Found Documents Trope, but I have heard complaints about that, as well.

This is one way I like Marble Hornets best. I like seeing the Slenderman/Operator/whatever the local color name is for it be some sort of horrifying presence that alters someone's consciousness and sanity and attaches itself to him or to her and (apparently--if I'm viewing the story right) either torments the fuck out of its victim or somehow induces the victim to make some sort of pact with it. Don't know precisely what Alex is up to, but he doesn't seem to have some sort of formal decree or grant of knighthood from the Slendyverse or anything. I remember reading on Joseph Delage's Tumbler that Alex "is a victim," and I think that's right. I think that's true of Brian/Hoody/TTA and of Tim, too.

I'm not sure what you mean. I was referring to "proxies" in the context of "people who give away all of the plot answers & clues."

I don't know how I've been posting in this topic for so long without saying, "Crossovers."

McGuffins on legs, basically.

This, so very much. It feels like such a long time since a series has come out that has brought in anything substantially new- or even tried to be its own thing, really. We need something to take us out of the comfort zone; something with ambition to be more than "kinda-sorta creepy". And that's another thing- we need more series that are actually creepy. Like, I notice your lame distortion effects, but I can't seem to find the atmospheric backing to make them be anything more to me than a pointless eyesore. Would you mind adding that?

Yeah, I think I had in mind your post, veronica2199's post, whatever I couldn't cram into my response to her, and my whole take on the "proxy" question, rearranged them in my head into a configuration of my liking, and provided a statement I'd wanted to make now that I'd generated an appropriate question to which I could attach it as an appropriate answer.

*sigh* I think I'll go back to my traditional Easter dinner of CVS corn chips and 'Gansett.

I keep forgetting that it's used to mean both "the thing that does all of the weird & cryptic code shit" & "the thing that works for Slenderman."

This is one reason why I don't like the term "proxy" in general.
