I would like to invite everyone, who is harping on the mailbox, to go back and watch the entry again. We were not supposed to care about the mailbox, or the stupid traffic lights. The lights were meant to signal that Alex was now filming b-roll. Filming lights like that sets up his pretentious nature in regards to film making. The mailbox scene is important, not because of the mailbox(it's a fucking mailbox guys, I have one too), but because The Operator appeared before Alex for the first, documented time. Alex only notices the distortion and thinks there's something wrong with his camera. So, he shakes the camera and hits it a couple times. That's what we were supposed to get out of that scene, but for some reason, there are a few people that want to focus on a stupid mailbox. It's a mailbox, guys. They sell them at Walmart.

Can't one just say that both sides--that the mailbox and lights etc. mean something or that they mean nothing--are sorta right? Even though the lights, for example, may ultimately mean nothing, they do seem to be a sort of wink from the creators to those fans obsessing over every little detail.

I really thought the stoplights were just meant to be red eyes like on Hoody's mask.

We must look deeper apparently

By "wink" I meant precisely that, and that looking deeper would avail nothing. It seemed like both misdirection and a joke on the fans who obsess over minutiae.

I rewatched it. I saw a scene of a street at night, a scene of a traffic light, a scene of a street, with some distortion and, if you were to go through it frame by frame, you could see a tall figure standing in the street.

That is it. What I didn't saw was an overlay text or anything of that sort saying "Watch out, amongst unnecessary things, now comes the one thing that you shall get out of this scene." That only the TO contact and nothing but has any meaning at all is nothing that is portrayed in the entry. This is your interpretation. Which, as I might add, is certainly valid and justified. That, however, makes not alternative interpretations invalid.

I, for example, have a different interpretation, under which the TO contact is certainly the main advancement point for the plot, but also takes notice of certain subtle elements that are not immediately related to the plot or the story itself, but rather to the tone and some more general but recurring themes and motives. That is, for example, the round lights that could be viewed as a pair of eyes. This is a motif that we see in multiple TTA entries and in at least one instance in a regular entry (#83). Now we see it in and 8 year old tape made by Alex. While I'm unsure of the exact nature of the connection between those, I see a connection there.

So, unless you assume that what this series (or any series) is about and what is relevant is solely what would fit in the "plot" section of a Wikipedia article, then there is definitely going on more than just "Alex filmed B-Roll, accidentally caught TO."

As to whether or not there was something going on that includes the mailbox, I must be frank: Did you even bother to read what I have written? Either that was not directed at me, or is completely beside the point. Because I not only granted in the beginning that the mailbox might be just random, at the end even concluded that there is no reference to that number in the series whatsoever. I don't think that the number is important. I just wondered whether it could be. Seems not. Got it.

I'm sorry, but you are overthinking this wayyyyyyyy too much.

Of that I'm probably guilty.

@Dhawk: I'm not sure what the input is that I'm to take from that. Shall we stop over-analyzing things even though this is an unFiction board, because (and here I agree) MH is not so much a game? Or shall I take from your reply that, although MH is not a game, since this is an unFiction board we are free to go with nitpicky over-analyzing, and anyone stepping on the boarders of an unFiction board should be aware of that?

Deeper and deeper we go, were there is no light. Secrets everywhere.

Apparently we're to take away from it that Alex is actually TTA, and wants to kill himself but TO won't let him, so he brainwashed Brian to be hoody and hunt him, enlisting the help of Tim and Jay. Hoody can't confront Alex directly because of TO, and... I got nothing. I can't run this stupid theory any farther, really. Sorry you read this much.

Are you guys really arguing so much about a simple mailbox being relevant or not?

Come the fuck on

SYMBOLISM OF THE MAILBOX: For those who look too deeply into the abyss

The mailbox is symbolic due to its usage of bringing either good or bad news to the person on the receiving end. For this specific entry, one can see how The Operator shows up unexpectaly similar to the way spam, junk mail, or a letter of bad news tends to be received. Alex shows annoyance while not knowing the full effect and affect of what this bad news will eventually bring him later in in the chronology of Marble Hornets.

The, "305," on the mailbox signifies that two odd numbers placed between an even one. Alex would be considered the even number, while both Brian and Tim would be the odd numbers. The numbers could also display a nearing end of a cycle as there are 365.25 days in a year.

Furthermore, 305 = 5 x 61.

Entry #5 is our introduction to the infamous red tower. The redness has a more prominent role now due to the recent deaths of two major characters. The tower itself, and in particular its height, represents the towering presence of the Operator, or the size of the battle that awaits Tim.

Entry #61 is a Hoody-upload (originally) showing Hoody taking Tim's medication, and Tim's reaction immediately afterwards. Of note is that this is the last known time that Tim transforms into Masky (although Entry #67 is unclear). This is Hoody's indication to Tim that he should forgo his medication and accept the Masky persona if he is to overcome his foes.

Or the 3 represents the number of letters in "Tim" while 5 represents the number of letters in "Brian." The 0 stands for The Operator. The 0 is between the 3 and 5, like how The Operator came between Tim and Brian. Now, however, they must joint together to defeat him.

... or it's just a random house number that doesn't mean anything.

It is fun. It would be cool if it has some deeper meaning, but it's very possible that it doesn't.
