Help cracking a local ARG Cipher Hey, a friend of mine started an ARG locally with some friends, and one of the challenges I have is to crack a cipher he created. It is actually pretty difficult for me and could use help. I don't necessarily need the answer but a point in the right direction would be amazing. I am also on a bit of a time crunch, so here is what I have:
"INTERCEPT
BEGIN
a slender young man with pale blue eyes
******
A05 B07 S03.1 A02 N01.3 J03.4 G05.5
N03 A06.1 B01.1 E6.3 C10.4
Z03 Z04 Z05
**
H09 A03.1 A3.4 B05.1 E01.9 B01.4 B01.5 B03.1
F06 F07
END"
The plain text is meant to help decipher the encryption.
The information originated from "GEOLOC -33.4955663, 150.151999 " if that helps

well the geoloc is here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/33 °29'44.0"S+150°09'07.2"E
Not sure about the rest - possibly grid coordinates?
Was this found in an email or a geocache?

Well if that location is anywhere near you, you might want to go check it out.

The "slender young man" thing appears to be from Idoru by William Gibson:
"Chia had programmed her Music Master to have an affinity for bridges. He appeared in her virtual Venice whenever she crossed one at moderate speed: a slender young man with pale blue eyes and a penchant for long, flowing coats."
I have a copy of Idoru at home. I might look into it when I get back.

ok, THE 'BOOK' USED AS THE KEY IS THE 'LOOK INSIDE' VERSION OF IDORU BY WILLIAM GIBSON LOCATED ON AMAZON. THE URL IS: http://www.amazon.com/Idoru-William-Gibson/dp/0425158640 - THE 'LOOK INSIDE' SAMPLE IS LOCATED ON THE LEFTHAND SIDE OF THE PAGE.
I am still not getting the cipher please help!

Well, it's not like a normal book cipher. Ordinarily the book cipher would be a string of numbers, indicating the order of the words in the book. I've not seen one quite like this before. I tried using the number as a page reference and the letter as a word indicator, but that produced gibberish. How do you know it's the "look inside" version?

I used in character money to purchase the info. Did you try using alpha numeric for a letter translation? A=1 and such

I did, but again that didn't yield anything useful. I'm curious as to why some of the entries have points (or periods) in them and others do not.

Well, if you still need an answer for your local ARG, I'll include it here:
since the book is now known, the second method I tried worked out:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
****** means page #6
A05 means first line(lines are labeled a-z), word 5
S03.1 means 19th line, word 3, 1st letter
****** (means page 6)
A05 B07 S03.1 A02 N01.3 J03.4 G05.5
message to S a l l y
N03 A06.1 B01.1 E6.3 C10.4
a b o r t
Z03 Z04 Z05
the audience knows
** (means page 2)
