Also, I found the source for the numbers on the last image. It's a document called

"Life table for the total population of the United States - 2003"

, uploaded April last year on the site I linked. Not sure if it's relevant.

EDIT - It seems the table is also on Wikipedia, so the link and/or the site isn't really relevant, but maybe the table itself is.

This had the attached image, Batoni's 'Portrait of Sir Humphry Morice' with some modifications - notably the face and the Chicago skyline. There are also two sets of numbers:

1219 and 0216. Put them together to get another code for the answering system. Haven't had time to record the branches there yet.


As for the formula, the piano tuner's bit is a Fermi problem. Easy enough to look up the problem, but the estimate varies quite a bit depending on the source and their estimates to the rest of the problem.

Have to head out of town for the day, will have to see when I can get back to this.

ETA - appears the preview is different from the actual image. Didn't see that until attaching the image. Thumbnail showing 'Major Sena' circa 2004 and circa 2552. Hmmm...
ETA2 - looks like the forums pulled up some old thumbnail from the ILB days.

 		Judging by the email I got when I answered the quiz, I did have a code assigned. Go figure. Anyone else had their ID resetted?

EDIT: I'm also pretty sure now that we are being identified geographically. The first number in our codes, after the A, is our country code if I'm not mistaken.

She had already made it through the front door, lock pick in hand. A1-ICIW, A1-QPLR and A31-JIKV began heading for the meeting room. A1-LSBP went to the kitchen to make a sandwich first. As he finished wrapping the prepared meal in paper, a loud shout rang throughout the house. A1-LSBP went to investigate [8+HERMES] and nearly dropped his sandwich as he tripped over something [-1 METAPHYSICA]. Upon standing from his painful fall, A1-LSBP looked down to find A61-VCLZ with a stained knife in his back. He called out to the trio in distress, who came running into the room. A1-QPLR looked shocked and immediately stepped backwards from the cadaver. A1-ICIW cried out in surprise and attempted to comfort A1-LSBP with a hug. A31-JIKV stared at the body in horror.
A1-QPLR asked, "Who did this?" He looked at the rest of the quartet.
"A31-JIKV couldn't be responsible! She wasn't even in the country until this morning," A1-ICIW pointed out.
"Calm down. It clearly wasn't one of us," responded A1-QPLR, "Let's not panic. It was probably just another APL0 attack. We'll see. Let's go to the tank room."

Bar 2
The quartet lay in their tanks and tried to relax, despite what they had just seen. A1-QPLR was in an AT5. A1-LSBP, A1-ICIW and A31-JIKV were in AT1s. This trio had a vision of an angel arriving from the skies. When the being appeared, A31-JIKV remained calm, but was filled with curiosity and more than a little trepidation. The angel turned its head to face the trio and began to approach. A1-ICIW reached out one hand to touch the angel on the arm [5+APHRODITE]. The angel's forearm faded away like smoke, but it seemed not to notice. A1-LSBP watched this in great fear [6+THEMIS]. He noticed that the angel was not part of the metaphysical infinity as it had first appeared to be.
The angel spoke to the trio, "Be calm. Do not be afraid. I am here only to assure you that you are on the right path."
A1-ICIW could tell that the being's words were truthful.
"Which path is that?" asked A31-JIKV, "The path to ascension?" [6+APHRODITE] A butterfly fluttered by the angel's head.
"No," replied the angel, "The path t-" A knife emerged through the front of the angel's stomach. Light poured from the wound. The angel billowed into a plume of smoke and faded into nothingness. As the vision faded, the trio saw a shadowy figure through the smoke. A31-JIKV [9+THEMIS] saw a blur of light blue robes. A1-LSBP [9+THEMIS] saw an arm swinging in a stabbing motion. A1-ICIW [12+THEMIS] saw the grimacing, stubbled face of A1-QPLR.

The trio rose from their tanks and dried themselves off with the conveniently-placed nearby towels. They noticed that the AT5's door was open, and a trail of wet footprints from around its base led out of the room.

 		Thanks for the recordings MrToasty! They are very helpful to those of us who can't dial the number.

I think we have some information about the characters now. So, from what I can distinguish (english is not my first language), I'm gonna try and write down what we know about each character, sorry for the huge text and the spoilers.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A1-LSBP - The Scientist - MrToasty - From the US.

From 12190216_1.mp3:
Has 0 out of 8 butterflies. Male, of short stature, average build, thining hair, bloodshot eyes and with an impartial personality. He is always trying to discover something new. He believes that A1-ICIW (GuestUser17, the Salesman) will play an important role in the events to come.

From 12190216_2.mp3:
A list of RPG-esque attributes, similar to those mentioned in the surveys.
Equipment: wearing a white labcoat and a grey baseball cap (one weight), carrying five sandwiches (one weight) and a notebook (one weight). Total weight unknown. Carrier: scientific field researcher. Has mastered several field experiments and keep their methods recorded in his notebook. Performs experiments whenever he wishes (phemosine?) Known to sometimes stop his experiments midway through to (something himself?). When in a laboratory or other restricted conditions, can perfom large control experiments.

From the surveys:
He awakened with A1-ICIW (GuestUser17, the Salesman) and A1-QPLR, he woke in the house of a quartet. After seeing A31-JIKV arrive, he goes to the kitchen to make a sandwich. While he was making it, he heard the loud shot, went to investigate and tripped over something, almost dropping his sandwich. he gets up and finds A61-VCLZ with a stained knife in his back, calls the other three members into the room.

Later, he was in the AT1 tank along with ICIW and JIKV. They had a vision of an angel, which LSBP watched in great fear and noticed that it (the angel) was not "part of the metaphysical infinity" (maybe it means it was physical, and not a vision).

A1-ICIW - The Salesman - GuestUser17 - From the US, Canada or Puerto Rico.

From the surveys:
He/she awakened with A1-LSBP (MrToasty, the Scientist) and A1-QPLR, he/she woke in the house of a quartet. After seeing A31-JIKV arrive, he/she goes to the meeting room along with QPLR and JIKV. After getting into the room with the body of A61-VCLZ, ICIW cried out in surprise and attempted to comfort LSBP with a hug. He/she then points out that JIKV couldn't be the culprit because she was out of the country until that morning. QPLR says that it was probably another APL0 attack, and that they should go to the tank room.

A1-QPLR - Character unknown - User unknown - From the US, Canada or Puerto Rico.

From the surveys:
He/she awakened with A1-LSBP (MrToasty, the Scientist) and A1-ICIW (GuestUser17, the Salesman), he/she woke in the house of a quartet. After seeing A31-JIKV arrive, he/she goes to the meeting room along with ICIW and JIKV. After getting into the room with the body of A61-VCLZ, QPLR looked shocked amd stepped away from the body. He/she then asks "Who did this?" and looks at the other members. QPLR says that it was probably another APL0 attack, and that they should go to the tank room.

He splits from the others and goes to AT5. We don't know what happened there, or if he participated of the vision. We know that ICIW saw his face after the angel dissapeared, and then they found footprints (QPLR's?) leading out from AT5.

A31-JIKV - The Thief - Amandel - From the Netherlands.

Female, average heigh and build, messy shoulderlength hair. Eyes of a criminal. Personality unknown, morally flexible.
She typically attempts to avoid detection and to infiltrate. Relationships: (???) ICIW reliable when things go wrong.

A list of RPG-esque attributes, similar to those mentioned in the surveys.
Equipment: Currently wearing a dark hoodie and leather troucers (???), one weight. Carrying five rations (one weight), one energy bar (one weight), one bootknife (one weight) (????) three Benzodiazepine pills and ten dollars. Total load: 4/11 weight.
Career: professional thief, knowledgeable and observant of criminal activity +1, security system expert HERMES, can pick locks, pick pockets, and disable security systems HERMES. Known from melee sneak attacks HERMES, can make Bensodiazepine pills and has build up an immunity to them.

From the surveys:
She arrived at the house, the trio finds her entering the house with a lock pick in hand (they where trespassing maybe?). JIKV goes with ICIW and QPLR to the meeting room. When they find the body, JIKV stares at it in horror. ICIW points out that JIKV couldn't be the culprit because she was out of the country until that morning. JIVK goes to AT1, and remained calm but curious and trepidatious. She asked the angel if the path it was talking about was the path to ascension, to which it said no, but was stabbed before it could specify the path. JIKV say a blur of light blue robes.

Then, they left their tanks, dried themselves and noticed that the door to AT5 (the tank where A1-QPLR was) was open and a trail of wet footprints was leading out of it.

A1-BEXI - The Physician - arthurdent11389 - From the US.
Probably we'll know more soon.

A506-JQAO - The Lunatic- nankaar - From Costa Rica.
Probably we'll know more soon.

A61-VCLZ - Character unknown - User unknown - From Australia.
His/her body is found in the house by LSBP. Nothing much is known about him/her.

A31 -ZYPA - Character unknown - User unknown -From the Netherlands.
Approved the AT1 tank according to the design dropped in Amsterdam.

A55-ILGG - Character unknown - User unknown -From Brazil.
According to the eye image, "SHE KNOWS" and "SHE WILL REDIRECT" (see post 156 at page 11).



Now for some things we don't know yet, some question that arised while I was writing that, and some things I found where curious:

-- I believe that QPLR isn't a player, mainly because he/she is not asked for opera in the surveys (at least not in the latest survey).
-- If it was "the house of a quartet", why did JIKV pick the lock to enter?. Are they even the quartet that owns the house? Although it is likely their house, because the tanks are in there.
-- It seems that we are playing some kind of RPG here, and taking choices for the characters, choices that affect the character's attributes.
-- What about those of us who got ID's but haven't appeared on the story? Will we appear later?
-- What's the relation between the surveys and the other puzzles we've been getting?
-- It seems that HERMES is related to wisdom/intelligence, THEMIS with fear. What do METAPHYSICA, APHRODITE and the others mean?
-- Maybe those whose characters are playing right now could bypass the survey and perfom some action directly in the story by writing to the Ascend email, as stated when you send the survey.
-- What could this APL1 thing we keep hearing mean?
-- Many of the authorization codes early in the game had a similar format to character ID's, like FLACON/A86-WJCR, RUBICON/A34-NVRQ and ARMCO/A1-VIXW. Possible relation?


I'm sorry again for the possibly broken english, and please, if someone can fill in for the (???) that I couldn't distinguish, please tell.

 		Coffee TY, nankaar, for the transcribing! Super job! A31-JIKV is my code since back when we were given codes. When time permits I fill in the forms tho admit am pretty much lost here. It's raining buckets in Holland so, indeed, my hair is "shoulder length-messy" today. Reckon that factoid verifies the rest is quite accurate, also. Laughing
