Bruteforce

I used a ARJ specific tool for the bruteforce, but then again I have no previous experience with ARJ files...

 stinky.arj Password

First off, I was wondering what you guys are using to attempt to decompress the multipart arj file, and how you know that it is password-protected.

Secondly, I have an idea for what the password might be about. The bug porn calendar months go 2 4 6 10 12, with 8 missing, which has already been established. However, I figure that given that the name of the arj file is stinky.arj, maybe the password has something to do with a stink bug? Or a bug that smells bad? Perhaps a stink bug is the bug in the missing bug porn calendar month 8, or August, which suggests that the password could relate to stink bug reproduction and mating.

Just throwing ideas out there. I just recently found the time to get into and catch up with this arg.

I thought perhaps the phone audio with all the "meh meh mi ma"s might be morse code. I can't determine anything sensible out of it though...

Also, just for completeness:

Jim's business card had JCRNWmZiVE5DXGhfTg== on it, which base 64 decoded gives: $$MZfbTNC\h_N

It's the same input to the brainfuck program that appeared in /r/kernaloftruth (the link with ?stdin=).

Other than that, I tried a few passwords on the stinky archive but no luck :/

Welp, unless we get some more details, in short.

we're up shit creek without a paddle.

It's probably a red herring, but a google search turns up a second stinky.arj file located at http://cd.textfiles.com/microhaus/mhblackbox7/WINDOWS/SOUNDS/STINKY.ARJ

This is a much smaller, non-password-protected file containing STINKY.WAV, which is a brief audio clip from an episode of Ren and Stimpy (the clip is of the phrase "I smell something stinky!").

If it's not a coincidence, maybe the contents of this .arj are related to the password for the other? I tried a couple of variations on it with no luck. It seems unlikely that there's anything hidden in the metadata for this, since it was apparently uploaded in 1993.

If nothing else, it provides a fresh brick wall to bang our heads against.

OK, we may be looking at this wrong. What if page count refers to actual pages?

Our top candidates are the bible, new testament, and that excerpt from the Persian book. Maybe the Rosencrantz roleplay.

Additionally, Rosencrantz could be a reference to the flower and bug stickers. Do we need to find the rose and ant?

Finally, maybe it's 45:1 instead? That could help us find more things. Also try looking up the new testament. It was the messiah offering bread, after all.

A guy made a summary of the ARG. Also made this imgur album.

I say maybe we should stop trying to brute force the password and figure it out how we're supposed to. Solve the puzzle and all that. Cmon, there's gotta be something... I'm stuck, too, tbh.

The page numbers on goombas.org are 5-8-7-2-10-11-6-3-9-4

http://twinbeard.com/230_huggy-bear is mentioned on page 7

Also, the one page.
[04:45:52] Tim: they are cysts
[04:46:26] Tim: careful when they are under your ear
[04:46:41] Tim: like, under the lobe on your neck
[04:46:58] Tim: in the place where you jaw meets the rest of your skull
[04:47:10] Tim: apparently you can kill yourself by popping them if things go just wrong enough
[04:47:29] Tim: a tragic way to go

Maybe the differences in times matter?

IDK, just guesses.

Translocator, I'm sorry, but what do you mean by "page numbers?" Maybe I'm blind, but I can't seem to find anything like what you describe.

Also, might be another Red Herring, but if you search "stinky" in the search box on Goombas.org, it only comes up with one result, like this:

http://goombas.org/search.php?search=stinky

Which leads to this page: http://goombas.org/1370_july-2013-microblog-digest.html

Which only has one instance of "stinky" on it, from a twitter post by Jim, seen here: https://twitter.com/rachel_sala/status/353346606055170050

The "stinky" in question appears in the link: www.stinkymeat.net

That's as far as I've gotten... Although, the twitter post is from July of 2013... Perhaps he made it part of the ARG later on, using an old tweet to make it seem like it wasn't part of it?[/url]

By page numbers I meant the numbers of the pages on the sidebar:

Topics:
coding= page 5
games= page 8
goombas.org= page 7
horror= page 2
judgement= page 10
life= page 11
minutiae= page 6
music= page 3
rants= page 9
software= page 4
They're not in order from 1 to 10 like you would assume.

When you put them in numerical order...
horror= page 2
music= page 3
software= page 4
coding= page 5
minutiae= page 6
goombas.org= page 7
games= page 8
rants= page 9
judgement= page 10
life= page 11

It skips the number one. When you change the link to number 1 it doesn't display anything.

Also I find it interesting that there are recent posts on
http://goombas.org/1092_you-ever-get-those-balls-in-your-earlobes-.html#c902
It seems like an odd topic for people to be discussion on a semi-obscure website.
