I got a theory. Both Serum and User Marble Hornets are both accounts of Pravado arguing with himself and others for his own amusement

Stopping reading around page 3 when it devolves into a fight as usual. This has been my theory since it was revealed Alex has been killing people. The only huge wrench in it is that Alex appears to be cured and all relaxed at the start of season 2, and Jay says he's also cured and relaxed at the end of season 1.

So either something disabled the operator for a short time which means killing everyone isn't the only way to be rid of him, or this theory is shot. I'm a fan of "if you think of him he appears" kinda like beetlejuice. The easiest way to get someone to not think about him, is to kill/burn all reminders of him. Jay states he stopped thinking about it and he was left alone. Alex got rid of everyone, burned the tapes, and moved away. He was left alone.

This only leaves the issue, how did it all begin?

Maybe some people are born with an Operator gene, or have a natural genetic disposition to the Operator? (I'm not joking.)

Didn't think you were, and there could be something to it. What if (IG) a lot of what's seen as mental illness is Oppy's effects on people born with the Oppy gene?

This sort of isn't a response to your post, but I sorta had nowhere else to post it--I'm of the school of Unfictionian who doesn't want to see an infodump of backstory bombs, but I can't help but wonder whether there won't be some sort of mention of some mythology of The Operator? I mean, where'd the name come from? Who named TO "TO"? Even if my theory about "The Ark" being (at least largely) a figment of Hoody's imagination and a way to put a name on something indescribable, where'd the fuckin' name come from? Did someone (TTA? and maybe also Alex?) do a bit of research and discover some sort of urban legend or even much earlier myth?

Also... and this IS off topic... but it has been a long, long, long time since Alex has been seen holding a camera. I wonder what this has to do with The Operator's influence over him? Or maybe he's gotten to a point where he's absorbed insight and power enough that he's more of a free agent who's "been polluted" but yet is somehow trying to get (in his eyes) justice for the whole mess?

Holy shit, I need another beer, and I've just run out! Fuck!

I won't laugh at this cause it's not a terrible theory, however it seems really unlikely so many people with the gene just happened to be in the same area at the same time doing the same project. If anything i'd say it's a disease of sorts. Maybe a fungal spore starts it, then it can spread from their via airborne pathogens.

Or some kind of mass hysteria. Mental disorders can be contagious too, to some degree. But the fungal spore makes some sense (and maybe explains the coughing?), though I still like the radiation theory--although it doesn't explain why MH hasn't been bloodier at least in the respect that coughing up blood is a sign of Slendy Sickness.

EDIT: OR (sorta unifying both somehow, maybe, probably not) what if Tim's largely a carrier? (Though, yes, he gets sick, though largely without the pills.)

lol next entry we discover marble hornets is higurashi, only a lot less moe. Jay is Kaichi, Alex and the operator are Rena and Hanyu. Tim is Rena... The instant they succeed in killing Alex, everyone dies.

Pretty sure they said in DVD commentary they're not going into mythos/backstory of the operator. His name is probably just a nickname Alex gave him that Hoody picked up on through found footage, naming him that based on whatever association to some form of an operator that Alex saw.

I was just going through this thread in light of Entry 86, and I began to wonder: who is this Pravado who everyone keeps talking about? Do I even want to know the answer?

Pravado used to criticise entries after they came out, am I right?
