- Entry #51: The Operator appears at the end of the hospital hallway behind Brian, as Alex is shooting footage for Marble Hornets. It's implied that Alex brought Brian here alone specifically for the Operator, although it ends up being a bit of a botched job.

EDIT: Also, there is a direct sighting in Entry #11. It's hard to see, but the Operator is outside one of Alex's windows at about the 1:06 mark (if I remember correctly). It still appears it's stalking Alex.

Entry #51 is overall one of my favorite entries and one of the best entries. It's creepy, it's scary, it's well written and well acted. But what I can't help but wonder is this. What the hell happened between when TO appeared the first time in the old hallway when Alex disappeared? And what was it that happened between TO showing up when Brian finds Tim and Alex dragging what he'd believed was Brian's lifeless body into that room?

It's possible that the operator can only take someone when they are alone (or at least when nobody's looking). When Alex is filming Brian all the operator can do is give them some slender sickness. Alex uses this as an opportunity to ditch Brian and leave him as prey for the operator, but he doesn't realise that Tim is still around, so both he and Brian are safe.

In fact this theory works elsewhere too- when Alex tries to ditch Jay he actually films him writhing on the ground instead of leaving him to be taken. In Entry #22 Alex confirms that he "left" Seth, and implies that this is why Seth is "gone". Similarly when the operator has Jay at his mercy in Entry #72 Tim runs back and the operator seems unable to take Jay. Finally in Entry #86 Alex isn't taken until Tim is facing away.

That's a good theory, but what about Entry #49? I know we don't know that Alex was or wasn't looking at Bruce's body being taken, but I can't help but wonder. It's not clear that the sound and the light distortion actually showed up off-camera. And Alex seemed to know very clearly and distinctly when to pick up the camera again. That suggests he may have been watching, at least out of the corner of his eye.

Good point! The proximity of the operator might have tipped him via feelings of slendersickness.

Either it's a joint projection of their shared consciousnes, or someone who was trying to terrorize Tim or both created that scene. Alex is the one who wanted to shock both. In that entry TO just seems to be tagging along and maybe waiting for one of the two to die.

I think it's more the latter, if it has to be one of the two.

On an almost unrelated note (except that I'm talking about Entry #83), I'm surprised the final showdown between Tim and Alex didn't feature Alex coming down the stairs as Tim was propped up at the bottom. I was convinced they were going to pull the same stunt like they did in whateverTTA/Entry #76 I think, where both videos show the same footage of Hoody running away from the camera with the night vision.

You know, that scene is one of the only unresolved mysteries about the series that really bothers me. Because even if you accept our suggestion here and the theory that fears and ideas and memories and more are getting caught on camera around TO, where the hell did that come from? Was it a memory? Was it someone's desire? (Alex's? Was he hoping to catch Tim at home back in Entry #73? Was it Brian/Hoody finding Tim semiconscious?)

That and the question of whoever it might have been on Alex's lawn in Entry #1. There SEEMS to be a long shadow of someone holding something like a videocamera and pointing at TO. Or maybe it's the shadow of a birdbath. But it's weird. Look at about 0:28. I know this is off topic just a bit, but it's referencing TO's first appearance, so it's also not.

Now you've made a good point. Because we really don't know how this sickness really works or what all of the effects are. We just know what we've seen on screen and what Jay's tweeted us. Maybe there's something more visceral.

It was clearly Alex who dragged Brian away because no one else in the series wears those shoes, and it was never my intention to imply otherwise (since I didn't suggest anyone else was responsible anyway).

@DHawk - I was listing what it seems the Operator was doing based off what we knew chronologically Entry-wise, and not chronologically IG-real-time-wise (plus I've only watched through Season 2 like two, three times). I pointed Entry #51 out in the first place because it was not included in your list.

Oh, I know--that was more for anyone who may read this and jump on what I wrote (although that would have been far more likely before LAST Sunday night, lol).

We know Jay and Jessica complained of headaches (in fact Jay carried around ibuprofen in season 2), Tim hacks up a lung, and Alex spits up blood. I've always thought the operator disortion during a taking sounds like a headache (I've suffered from occasional migraines for a couple of decades, and that's what a migraine feels like to me!) I wouldn't be surprised if people get headaches as soon as the operator shows up.

I just realised that at first it seems like Jay was in a lot of danger in Entry #40, until we realise that Hoody was watching all along, to make sure Jay would be okay. Hoody even says as much in Intermission.

I've never looked at the shadows that closely, but I see what you mean. I've always assumed they were just shadows from the Operator and that swing thing, since the light source--Alex's porch light--is behind the Operator's head.

Lol my bad! I don't write things on forums, so I'm not used to the flow of conversation on here. Sorry about that!

Can I just mention something? In #1, when TO turns to look at Alex's window (or at Alex himself), look at the direction he turns in. He was facing away from Alex's house. If he was truly stalking Alex at that time, shouldn't he have been facing the house? This has always led me to think he might've been watching someone else at that moment, and just happened to be in front of Alex's house. But then Alex had such an interesting reaction to seeing him...

Yeah, that's a good observation, SilentMedusa.

Which raises the following three-part question:

1. Was Tim involved either in casing Alex or in some sort of TO-monitoring mode that early on?

2. Was there someone involved in the project who knew of TO's existence?

2a. In which case, ... ... Seth, being the cameraman?

We'll never know any of this, and in most respects it really doesn't matter now.

But if you look closely, it DOES look as if there are legs of a person standing on the lawn. I'm not saying there actually were--I'm saying that I can see how one could interpret the scene as showing someone's shadow.

I think a major thing to look at and wonder is why the Operator actually shows up in the Hotel in Entry 52. That one always confused me. Did Alex make it do that?

You know, I kin of wonder if this isn't all a game to it. That would explain quite a lot, actually. It showed up in #52 to erase their memories, in order to keep the game going. That's why it helped out Alex so many times, too; it was protecting its favorite game piece.

Or maybe I've been spending too much time in the Fear Mythos; that's always possible.

no, you are absolutely right...its really just some creature and it could merely be playing with them

Just felt the need to point out that talking about aspects of the general slenderman myth isn't really relevant. We should stick to what the operator is shown to be like and what we can infer from the series itself. Any aspects of the slenderman outside MH such as tentacles have no relevance to Mh's operator
