[ANNOUNCE] PM Post-Game Chat Nov 7th

There will be a post-game chat with the PMs tomorrow, November 7th at 2pm PST in #apocalypso on chat-sol.

This will be a moderated chat. Directions on how everything will work will be posted here by tomorrow morning.

Present will be Elan Lee, Sean Stewart, Jane McGonigal, Jim Stewartson, and maybe more.

Another phone-based conference call chat will be scheduled at a later date.

** edited to change Oct to Nov -- jamesi

Here's a FAQ for the upcoming chat with the Ilovebees PM's:

Who is invited?
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE who played or was interested in
Ilovebees. For those who've never posted or been in chat, this will be
your chance to meet fellow players and the folks who authored
the game.

When is the chat?
Sunday, November 7th, 2004 at
5:00 pm EST
2:00 pm PST

Where is the chat?
In #apocalypso (www.chat-solutions.org). The channel will be moderated,
meaning only channel-ops and PMs will be able to talk. Open discussion about what's going on in #apocalypso can take place concurrently in #beekeepers. If you don't have an IRC client installed, you can used Unfiction's browser-based applet here.

How can I ask a question?
To ask a question, you must be in #apocalypso. The channel ops will be our designated screeners (anyone with an @ next to their nick). If you would like to ask a question, PM (private message) them once, saying "Question." They will put you in a queue, and when it's your turn, you'll be called upon and voiced (enabled to speak). Then, ask away! NOTE: It makes things go much faster if you have your question already typed out, so you can just hit ENTER when voiced.

When can I ask a question?
The topic in the channel will change from "Questions: NO" to "Questions: YES." When it does so, you can submit your questions to the channel ops. Then, watch to be voiced. You may be PM'd by a channel op to let you know when you're up next.

How many questions can I ask?
You'll be allowed one question and one follow-up (flup) per turn.

How can I hide all of the join/part messages?
If you're using mIRC, click on the channel icon in the upper left
corner of your #apocalypso window. Click events... and choose hide on the
various pull-down menus there.

Who will be there?
Here's a list of the Ilovebees PMs who will be there (so far):

Elan Lee: Director/Lead Designer
Sean Stewart: Lead Writer/Designer
Jim Stewartson: Technical Director/Designer
Jane McGonigal: Community Lead/Designer

If I can't be there, can I still submit a question?
Yes, post it in this thread and we'll do our best to get it asked on your behalf.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

How much did this cost to run/produce?

Did anyone decorate the phones with bees and glitter?

What was the idea behind using a single site (as compared with the beast, and virtually every other ARG after that, having many sites)?

If anyone doesn't have a question, here's a suggestion:

Where did the jazz that Jersey plays come from? Original or actual piece?

(I'll be away during the chat time, so if someone wants to lighten things up after all the questions about cost, time involved, exposure and success of the ARG it might be nice to finally know Very Happy )

I look forward to seeing the log of the chat Smile

Let's please limit this thread to:

"I can't be there, so here's my question:.........."

We'll do our best to get your questions asked in your absence.

Thank you, the management.

This one has already been answered by a PM. Approximately a million US dollars, with a vast majority of it covering the cost of sound studio work.

My ones, just in case my 343 Guilty Spark proves preoccupied:

- Whose idea was it to set the coke machine to display SPARTAN POWER? I do not believe it was a coincidence/a third party stunt.
- What was the correct original inferring sequence leading to the solution of the dreaded and infamous Prepositions Puzzle?
- What tasks for the axon crew did you have ready? Once can safely presume the ones carried out were only a part of a larger set of ideas. What were the discarded ones? Name a few?
- What were the funniest or most bizarre axon responses? Either would-be-crew or total stranger ones would be nice.
- Am I correct in my somewhat bold assumption that it was my Pleasure Goo concept that actually won me a place among the top 2004-vs-2552 artists, and not the somewhat plain and uninteresting thermometer remodelled to a surgical laser, and you simply didn't want to put anything even remotely risque on the results compilation?
- There were sightings of some of the axons becoming "enhottenated" even though the players dispatched to handle the calls reported broken or nonexistent payphones. Were some of the axons rendered hot up front to compensate for potential non-functioning phones?
- Two questions in one. Is there going to be any official ILoveBees merchandise? Are the player-made Cafepress shops supported or discouraged?
- Were the two apparent mistakes on your part - the missing Subject 5 on one of the humptydumpty updates, and the duplicate a_part.wav - corrected when you noticed the fault, or after a player's email to the Flea?
- Speaking of mistakes. Were there any major errors that the players didn't notice, because you luckily managed to fix them fast enough? Or, what were the biggest sudden obstacles that you had to overcome? Ranging from breaking crucial hardware to Flood attacks, anything goes.
- What was the biggest surprise coming from the players? Lt.Weephun's haste in revealing the Princess was one, as we already know. Were there any others?
- Please estimate: how much of the scenario and materials was ready before the game even started or was produced during it according to decisions already made, and how much was influenced by the players' actions in any way?
- "I'm going to sleep" turned into "!grope pillow". "/me runs" turned into "evade evade". How does the Flea++ inventor - and the rest of the team - feel about Flea++ apparently becoming a trendy lingo, similarly to 1337speak?
- As far as we know, none of the "smart" AIs had their human memories. Melissa now does. Can this fact perhaps keep her sane enough not to become rampant at all?
- Do you have any humorous audio outtakes? If so, could you !reveal them?

my ideas

Just in case I can't make it( I am going to try but I have to resolve a schedule conflict) ...

1. One question:
I know it took us a couple of days to find the text snippets, assemble The Widow's Journey (named by Rob Magus in chat by the way), translate the SP's strange email, and for xnbomb to correlate the text with the SPDR program language....

was there an aha! moment at which you knew that the lightbulbs over our heads had turned on and we were finally getting it?

[2. Vpisteve, if there is time... one more I would like to ask:

The Sleeping Princess loved her emoticons (based, we have assumed, on the line "when I have a question I do this (?)" from a response I wrote to the strange email)
what made you decide to pick that up and use it throughout the entire story? ]

3. And a comment: we have some great games being played and others just over the horizon, please join us to play along. You would be as fantastic companions in playing a game as you are when PMing them. Very Happy

How long was this thing in the works? How long did it take to set up? In other words when did Bungie contact you to make this ARG?

This is somewhat in keeping with the spirit of this thread:

ASU apparently blocks IRC-protocol requests. Is there any way I can get around this limit? I don't know much about the inner workings of IRC chat stuff, but neither my software client (Firefox plugin) nor the Unforums Java app will connect to the IRC server. Sad

Count me in on the phone conference call either way ^__^

Just in case I can't make it...or if a PM would prefer answering this offline...

"Was it intended to keep this game within the borders of the United States? We out-of-country axons deliberately snubbed, or was it just determined to be too difficult to find axons in Canada, England, New Zealand?"

I'm not sure if I can make it or not, so here's my question just in case:

How did Jersey come up with the name "Durga"? We've speculated it's related to the Hindu goddess, is that correct? If so, how'd Jersey learn so much about Hindu mythology?

NOT A QUESTION for the PM's:

When all this is said and done, will someone be sure to post an entire log here somewhere? I know it's redundant, but I'm pretty sure I won't be anywhere near a computer till late tomorrow night. I want to see the questions/answers, but I definitely won't be able to attend the IRC event.

I can't promise this will work but you can try using a non-standard port number in the Java applet. It defaults to 6667, but you should be able to connect on any from 6660 - 6669, or 9999. Just manually change the number in the input box before hitting connect.

Definitely it would be awesome to play via XBL with the PM's. PLEASE encourage that greatly, as I won't be able to be there either (Sunday is my only day to do laundry, as I don't have a washer/dryer or nearby laundromat, and clean clothes are kind of nice to have)
