My personal favorite is more subtle. Way back at the beginning of season 3/end of season 2 Jay was poking around the antique store, which was closed. Afterward, there was a TTA vid of Jay, from behind as he was poking around. While everyone else was freaking out about who could have been filming Jay since he would've noticed Tim/Masky, one person went back and looked at Jay's entry. And then posted a zoomed-in screen shot of Jay's reflection in the window -which also showed Hoody over his shoulder in the background. I still get chills when I think of that.

SilentMedusa - I remember that, but I could never see the reflection of Hoody. Could someone maybe find that screen shot again?

That's one of the best shots in the series.

Where is Hoody? Is he that brown splotch? And how would Jay not turn around & see that?

Why would Jay think it odd that another person was on a street during the day?

Because he has a mask. Also, I believe Jay already knew about Hoody by this point.

Jay approaches a stranger in Entry #31 for this very reason and Jay's awkwardness makes the whole thing painful to watch. If Jay did check out everyone on the street he'd quickly run out of time to do anything else and would end up going through all kinds of awkward encounters. Before Entry #53 when Hoody stalked Jay (that we and Jay know of) it was always at night or in the woods where he was hidden. Jay had no reason to think that someone would be stalking him in the street.

Okay, let's back up & go through that piece by piece.

1. Jay didn't even acknowledge seeing someone near him, even though that guy was literally in plain sight. This is quite a bit different from "I saw someone, but I didn't think it was significant."

2. Exactly, Jay has approached a guy in a brown hoody who appeared to be following him before. So it's not absurd to suggest that he would be on the lookout for Hoody.

3. It's only awkward because Jay is dumb, which is exactly what I am criticizing. It's as easy as saying, "Sorry, I thought you were someone else," & then walking off.

4. Again, the point raised was "how the fuck did Jay not notice this guy," not "stopping to check everyone on the street," or even "stopping to check that clearly suspicious guy in the hoody." If that's even what that is. I still just see a splotch. But, if it is Hoody, he'd be lurking around in broad daylight with a mask & as far as we know, he uses predominantly handheld camcorders. That would be pretty conspicuous in that setting.

5. Jay didn't ever really do shit, so he probably would have gotten better results if he spent more time trying to find Hoody. Such as living.

Why would he? There's no reason for Jay to say to the audience "I saw a person today". In fact Jay makes a point of this when he shares the footage of when he met Jessica. His JayText says "This wouldn't have been noteworthy if Jessica hadn't said my name sounded familiar".

Actually I'd think the opposite. I think Jay would spend most of the time looking down near the ground (where his camera points most of the time) trying to avoid eye contact with strangers. Troy has said that Jay is a shy and socially awkward guy.

It's only conspicuous if you're looking for it. Seriously, there are loads of things you can miss even when you're looking directly at someone. It's different for us because we're looking through Jay's camera so everything is "flat" and has the same importance, as well as being from literally a different point of view.

Well yeah, but then we wouldn't have a series to watch, would we? (And arguably, just living a normal life wouldn't have worked anyway. He tried that towards the end of Season 1, got teleported away and then had his apartment burned down. He tried a second time and Alex revealed he knew where he was all long, and called for help.)

There are also other things to consider- obivously this a scripted web series, so some things need to happen for the sake of the audience and this is a particularly convoluted example. In a similar vein, other characters are really good at missing things- Alex likes to turn his back a lot and fails to hear Jay in the woods in Entry #49. Alex and Tim have also walked right past the operator when they weren't under its influence. This whole series relies on the fact that sometimes characters don't see each other. Also consider all the times when Jay may have been looking around and seeing nothing. That could have happened thousands of times over the years and we'd never know for most of them because he wouldn't share footage of nothing happening. I think we can allow him one momentary lapse of vigilance! Finally, at this point in the series Hoody was helping Jay out and was not seen as a threat, so why bother chasing him?

Thanks for the screen grab aidansean! Very Happy

Avoiding the current debate... I can see Hoody now in the background. Dunno how I couldn't see it before. Maybe my old computer screen was too dark or something for me to see it properly. I missed a few things in the series because of that computer monitor! Lol!

On an unrelated note... What do you reckon this says? I always thought it said "Jay r" with a cross over it, and questioned if it was intentional rather than just a bit of graffiti. Kinda like all those papers with names crossed out by Alex. But looking at it again now, I'm not so sure...

In regards to why Jay didn't notice Hoody, it's possible Hoody booked right after that one shot. Hoody might also have been unmasked at that point with a somewhat altered appearance (grew a beard, sunglasses, etc) so that Brian wouldn't be recognized at a distance.

Jay also barely talks about or even explicitly acknowledges a tall malevolent extradimensional being in a suit who either hides in plain sight or stalks him and others in the videos he posted.

Usually it's a passing reference to "that thing" instead of "what the hell was that oh my god why is it stalking us what is it what does it do what does it want i'm so scared hold me" like most people probably would say.

So it's not surprising that he doesn't point out "hey, also there was this guy in a sweatshirt holding something a hundred feet away." Jay didn't really react to things or talk about them like a normal person would.

I think Jay honestly didn't notice him, because at the time he was looking in the store windows trying to figure the place out, not looking at his reflection.

1. When the Totheark video was released, even if Jay hadn't remembered, it would have made sense to look back & see if there was someone who could have been filming him.

2. So the fact that Jay has already confronted someone under suspicion of being ToTheArk once proves that he wouldn't do it again? Yeah, no.

3 & 4. Okay, fine, technically, Jay could have conceivably not noticed Totheark walking around in broad daylight, & maybe there was no one else around to gawk at Hoody & clue Jay in that something weird was going on, but that's really contrived, & Point 1 would still stand.

5. We're not talking about Rule of Drama or every other scene where someone didn't see something. I wasn't even planning to have an argument about this, but if you're going to insist on proving that it actually makes sense, stick to that subject.
