Using the Ruler we previously got and this index card, we were able to partially decode a message.

The ruler message was 18 bytes long and the index card is 21 bytes long, meaning that this decode doesn't use 3 bytes.
There are also some unreadable portions.
However, it's undeniable there are readable numbers in the message: m 00375 499 974

OtpXor clued is in to this hidden message:

Code:

C:\Users\Crash>otpxor s C:\Users\Crash\Desktop\card.bin C:\Users\Crash\Desktop\ruler.bin
|  ..m..00375 499.974 @ 0x00000001 (13 Readable)

Here's a diagram showing the alignment of the two messages and the unused bytes:
Code:

input:
AF 3F 83 25 9E 23 E8 A5 73 02 22 AA D5 02 B7 75 79 88 B5 80 E6
__ 9e 0b 48 6b be d8 95 40 35 17 8a e1 3b 8e 72 40 bf 81 __ __
output:
__ A1 88 6D F5 9D 30 30 33 37 35 20 34 39 39 07 39 37 34 __ __

With some further work we may be able to clear up some of the unreadable chars or find a use for the unused ones.

Looking at the photos for the Ruler and Index card I've corrected a couple transcription errors and here is an updated decode: 14+N 700375 4997974

Code:
input:
AF.3F 83 25 9E 23.E8 A5 73 02 22 AA D5 02 B7.45.79 88 B5 80 E6
9e 0b A8 6b be 14 d8 95 40 35 17 8a e1 3b 8e 72 40 bf 81 __ __

output:
31 34 2B 4E 20 37 30 30 33 37 35 20 34 39 39 37 39 37 34 __ __

There are still two unused bytes of the index card (80 E6) and the space in the output message could very well be a period if the depending on a small transcription difference.

annd... if we use 14/700375/4997974 as UTM coordinates we get 45.1068281235952, -96.4529240508186 ( http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=45.1068281235952,-96.4529240508186&spn=0.05,0.05&t=m&q=45.1068281235952,-96.4529240508186 )

Maybe another drop?

So, MrArron and my uncharismatic ass decided we'd pay a visit to Mr. Troy's phone line. What happened next could only be called the Troy Don't Know Shit saga. My goal was to see if he knew anything about the alarm sirens we were getting on certain portions of the Agent System.

Troy Don't Know Shit I: It Begins

So, I figured that'd be the end of it. I was hesitant to place any future calls, though I'd gotten requests to from fellow IRCers. Troy himself wound up making the shot in the decision -- He called me back!

Troy Don't Know Shit II: Troy Still Don't Know Shit

Once again, I thought things had been wrapped up there. However, the issue of getting the full 4818 number (Referenced as Troy's own number) had several IRCers' interest piqued. At their bequest, I placed one more call.

Troy Don't Know Shit III: The Snarkening

So, that's that.

(Also, for those of you who aren't on #ARG... Hi!)

Had a chat with Troy...

So I called AS36 checking on a few of the old El Cerrito drop numbers because 22 has me wondering why it is mentioned. In one of them, I got a random redirect to someone that answered "Troy?".

So I flew cool and said that I just called AS36 and you answered. Here's a transcription..

Troy: I've been getting a lot of those and nobody can tell me why.

Me: It's a random redirect on AS36. We are trained to accept the glitch and query Message Desk with any directions that we have pending. As Message Desk is no longer available and no instructions were given other than "stop calling Message Desk", I have no idea what to do at this point.

Troy: That uh.. Haha, it doesn't explain why the one guy said he called 202-204 and got to my desk phone.

Me: I don't have a clue what you are talking about. Look, is this Message Desk or not? You sound like the Message Desk guy.

Troy: I mean... Yeah, I used to do a service known as Message Desk... But that ser... It's been suspended. They've taken.. They took all the hardware for Message Desk.

Me: So Message Desk is defunct?

Troy: As far as I know... I mean, I have nothing to perform Message Desk functions.

Me: Ok, did they leave a redirect for MD functions, or is that all handled through the QX system now?

Troy:QS?

Me: No, QEX.

Troy: I honestly have no clue. Are you sure you didn't dial a 4818 number?

Me: No, I'm sure the number I dialed ended in 0004.

Troy: I never... I don't usually ask this... Can I call you back in a few seconds?

Me: (Shocked!) Sure... Uh, do you have callerID or uh...

Troy: I have your number as (redacted).

Me: That's it.

Troy: Ok, I'll call you back in a few seconds. Bye.

A few seconds later, he called me back.

Troy: Hi, is this who I was speaking to a minute ago?

Me: Yes.

Troy: Can you please tell me the number I called you from?

Me: 1-202-204-2303

Troy: Interesting. (mumbling) Thats not right. I'll have to talk to them about it. (To me) Thankyou. Good night. (Disconnect)

Two things I noticed. Troy is not willing to or unable to explain why MD is gone, and he is very willing to redirect the conversation towards his direct number and yet not give it out. Somehow 4818 is important or a very well done red herring.

Some very interesting new messages have been discovered on the agent system.

Agent code 222222 (audio here: http://otp22.com/l?4X81T.yySXy ) -

Quote:
Excerpt from field agent guide. Agent instructions for audio CD decoding. Each compact disk audio track contains important information. This information is stored in the 4 least significant bits of the audio compact disk track. A magic keyword for data is indicated by all 1's binary followed by all 0's and so forth. Next contains a file length indicator. After this, binary data starts. The end of the binary is indicated by the file length. Combine the labels from the left and right audio channels to form bytes. You may also find simple data for decoding on the friendly code audio track before working on more complicated binary operations. The friendly code is used to validate the authenticity of WORM documents, books, and other media. If the authenticity fails the check or does not exist, treat any item with extreme suspicion. This encoding method applies to all CD audio drops, including 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and the 2015 preview MLPL mission documents. Message ends.

Agent code 2222222 (audio here: http://otp22.com/l?aMIqZV.bEW2gZ ) -

Quote:
If you are listening to this agent code, you have been given very specific instructions. Protect this information. MLPL agents have become aware of a counter-operation. It is also known that the counter-operation is not aware of the MLPL mission. You have been instructed to infiltrate the counter-operation and gain their trust. You are instructed to direct them to a honeypot configured to distract them. Lead them quietly away from the agent systems to the new honeypot. They will soon lose interest in agent systems and reduce burden on MLPL. For further information, access tape retrieval system and enter 22100. Message ends.
