Fingers crossed for something in Orlando maybe? Don't really go there much though... wouldn't even know where to begin searching there.

I'm closer to Tampa, but I'm not so far from Orlando I couldn't make that trip a fair few times. Though I agree, wouldn't even know where to begin! That's assuming it ever comes our way. Wink

17 and 23 again.

Everfalling: thanks for conversing with me via PM.

..

So tonight I am watching The Institute again, hoping see something new.

If any of you read my previous posts, you will see the significance of the numbers 17 and 23.

Well it popped up again, a moment ago, in the doc. The first private video of Eva Lucien ("evolution," get it ?) was filmed Oct 17, 1988. The second video was dated Oct 23, 1988.

Interesting, no?

Ever notice on the dart board, the sum of the E-W numbers and the N-S? Yup, 17 and 23.

I just also this week watched Room 237, about the hidden clues Kubrick may have put in The Shining. The room in the novel was 217, but Kubrick changed it to 237 and lied about why. Do you see it in there: 217-237?

That movie ends with this idea that perhaps the thing that is being observed is altered by the observer...quantum physics, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Reality can sure seem that way sometimes.

Seek, and ye shall find.

Could you please expand on this? By "director", do you mean the director of the film, "The Institute"? Did you learn anything else by talking to the director other than this?

Thanks

In this case I believe we are talking about the game directors. The film director is unlikely to know anything about The Latitude Society.

Zeitgeist, the Movie

I think that I read that Jeff worked on this game for 3 years. I am sure he wants more than 10,000 folks to appreciate it.

The Institute (the film) is likely both a continuation of Jeff's vision, and/or an upgraded abridged version of the original vision for the larger masses. Seriously, when the director allows for such poor acting by interviewees, it suggests that the bad acting was likely deliberate (i.e. for some of us to detect that we were being manipulated...we are being played...the game is still on).

Here is another similar way the director messed with us. Early in the movie, we are lead to believe we are hearing the original radio broadcast from Commander 14. However, he soon tells us to watch the cartoon (a cartoon which has the tip of a brick pyramid fall off).

...

I just watched Zeitgeist the Movie tonight. Highly recommended, and possibly quite relevant to this game. Please watch it.

Anyway, I think the in game induction reference to the 23rd floor was intentional (despite what Everfalling suggested...here is a mini-challenge for those waiting for one: figure out who he is).

The 12 Corporate Goddesses guarding the 23rd floor remind me of the 12 signs of the zodiac, as well as hollow beings.

Oppenheimer (opco.com) takes up the entire 23rd floor. I believe the game writers are deliberately comparing the Jejune Institute (pitching false non-chalance) to the Banking world (maybe this is obvious, and has been stated many times before).

Why was it placed in the heart of the financial district? Jeff grew up with money (google Blair Hull, his father) and was part of a foundation for social causes.

To think about the meaning of a game, we must consider the motivations and goals of the game maker. And in this case, think also about his father, and what his father did and stood for.

And perhaps there is a reason Oppenheimer was chosen. For the name? J. Robert Oppenheimer was the father of the atomic bomb (who eventually had his security clearance revoked).

You know how global banks profit the most? During wars.

...

Now you should go watch Zeitgeist if you haven't seen it yet (it is on Netflix streaming, and probably online).

It is particularly timely and relevant now in light of the downing of the Malaysian plane over Ukraine.

I know I sound like Organeil (though i'm not acting), but humor me...watch Zeitgeist. Then use your mind to connect the dots.

After all, that is why you are here, isn't it?

Wink

Possible but unlikely lead above MacArthur Tunnel?

So, like some of you, I've wandered around the Mission, without really finding anything that seemed like it might be related. However, being attentive while driving around the city, I have noticed something recently. While I'll admit my gut feeling is that it's unrelated, since I'm new to this and haven't deciphered this yet, I can't be totally sure, so I might as well share with you here, just in case.
On my way towards the GG bridge last weekend, something caught my eye above the entrance to the MacArthur Tunnel. It seemed different from typical graffiti/street art, but it was too difficult to really see well in the short time I had driving past. This weekend, I returned twice, by foot, to vantage points in the Presidio. The first time I just couldn't get close enough to read it, so the second time, I brought a cheap pair of binoculars I had, with me. Here is a photo taken with my phone:

I apologize for the poor quality, but that's the best I could do with what I have at that distance. The placement seems not very well-thought out (or intentionally obscured?) because it's basically impossible to read with the naked eye from any reasonable vantage point. With my cheap binoculars, however, I could make out a lot of it. Since the photo doesn't show it well, I will describe it.

Starting with the bow-tie image on the right:
Above the bow-tie is the word "WARNING!" (or "Attention!") in several different languages. Below the bow-tie is a cipher in series of characters, unrecognizable to me. In the middle of the bow-tie is a triangle/pyramid with one or a couple of characters. In the left triangle of the bow-tie is what appears to be maybe a globe, but upside-down(?). In the right triangle is a stylized skull/face.

To the left of the bow-tie is a "W" image with an arrow above and below. This appears to be the key to the cipher. The lower arrow contains a matrix with the English alphabet and the upper arrow contains the "unrecognizable" characters in an equivalently-shaped matrix. The slanted lines on the sides of the "W" are either artistic flourish or more of the characters; it was too hard to see.

Unfortunately, I just couldn't see the non-english characters clearly enough to translate the cipher. Maybe somebody else here with a nice zoom lens could?
If you look at the street view on google maps, the image wasn't there as of February of this year, so it can't be more than a few months old, at the latest. Anyway, considering the poor placement and the difference in style, it's PROBABLY unrelated, but maybe we should at least decipher the message and see?

OK, but I'm not sure why you think it's unlikely the film director knows anything about The Latitude Society. The logo and name is at the end of his film, after all.

pimlico i think it might be worth mirroring that image in a separate thread to the news & rumors subforum that we're in now. You'll get wider exposure. Whether or not it's related i'm sure other people in the bay area might want to take a closer look. that cipher thing on the W symbol sounds pretty interesting. Good eyes!

Everfalling: I am curious what you are meaning with the Homer GIF. I would love it if you could explain (in think Homer does this after not being invited by Flanders and crew).

And since I may have missed it: what is the point of the movie Room 237?

Perhaps to demonstrate the power of apophenia?

Or was the point to be curious about Kubrick, who died soon after he completed his last movie Eyes Wide Shut (about discovering a secret society).

I actually wish you would be more direct with me here.

...

Anyway, I just walked next door to get coffee. Just as I passed a man sitting talking with a woman, he said "I love bees," to the woman. I came back and asked him if he meant the game, but he said no.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_love_bees

The next license plate I saw (when I left Panera) had the numerals from 1723 in it.

...

Have you all seen the 13th Floor, or The Nines?

...

I contacted the director of the movie The Institute and he informed me to keep an eye out. His name is Spencer McCall.

I don't know about you, but this native is getting restless.

Rant begins/

Everfalling and Entopic:

Look...I am working (playing) hard here with my wild speculations and spirit.

It seems a little too convenient/suspect that the The Institute's archivist (who incidentally started this thread) and someone who has called up and spoken to the director can both publicly (playfully?) mock me. (Though part of me is grateful, since not many are engaging me at all).

How long has the movie been out...over 7 months? Either the start of the Latitude has been woefully delayed (and no one, other than Pimlico, may know this for sure), or frankly, it is too hard. Or there is a whole other forum somewhere else where folks are feverishly discussing this, and the joke's on me.

Anyway, I am sure I can't do this alone, and I am not sure that I even want to. My enthusiasm is leading to frustration, which is soon becoming resignation and boredom.

Woody Allen said: "I'd never join a club that would allow a person like me to become a member."

I am saying: "I am likely not going to join a club that makes it so hard to become a member."

If Jeff wants The Latitude Society to be bigger than Jejune, and if he wants to make a lot of money, then he may need to consider either confirming the delay and speeding things up, or lowering the apparent barrier to entry.

Everfalling: since you are close enough to Jeff to have made a game for him, then perhaps you would be willing to pass along my suggestion.

Thanks.

/Rant over...
