Hi All,

Whilst remaining attentive, looking for a potential Latitude Society trailhead, I noticed something interesting above the south entrance to the MacArthur Tunnel:



I apologize for the poor photo; it's the best I could do with what I have. The problem is, it's just too far away from any reasonable vantage point I could find to clearly read with the naked eye. I have a weak pair of binoculars which helped well enough to make it interesting:

Starting with the "bow-tie" image on the right:
In the white space above the bow-tie shape is the word "WARNING!" (or "Attention!") in several different languages. Below the bow-tie is what appears to be a coded message in some unrecognizable script/symbols. In the middle of the bow-tie is a triangle/pyramid with one or a couple of the symbols. In the left triangle of the bow-tie is what appears to be maybe a globe, but upside-down(?). In the right triangle is a stylized skull/face.

To the left of the bow-tie is the "W" image with an arrow above and an arrow below. This appears to be the key to the cipher. The lower arrow contains a matrix with the English alphabet and the upper arrow contains the symbols from below the bow-tie in an equivalently-shaped matrix. The slanted lines on the sides of the "W" are either artistic flourish or more of the characters; it was too difficult to see.

If you look on google street view, as of February of this year, it wasn't there.

While I would love to be the one to decipher this, I just don't have a good enough camera or binoculars to see the unfamiliar symbols clearly. So, maybe an interested someone in the bay area with a nice zoom lens would like to take a crack at it and post a better image for us?

Hey, I don't live close enough to S.F. to go take a pic., but a quick search shows Gen. MacArthur had used a cipher of his own. May not be helpful now, but if you get a better picture, it may prove more useful!

 		I made an attempt to get near enough to get a decent Picture on Monday but work on Mountain Lake is closing down the trails that go close to the tunnel, during the week. I'll make an attempt to get out there Sunday.

 		Thankfully the trails were in fact open today and I was able to get some good pictures.
