 META: Guide by Grimace

Okay - a guide of sorts is online here.

Excuse the lousy formatting etc. Is anything missing?

PS Should we give this game a name?

Continuing on the case...

Thanks so much Grimace - the summary really clarified things, and inspired me to keep looking at that Red Queen sonnet.

Here's the binary removed by line and converted to decimal:

11000101 - 197
010000 - 16
100001011 - 267
1110 - 14
01 - 1
10 - 2
10111 - 23
0011 - 3
1010110 - 86
1000 - 8
01011 - 11
01000 - 8
110 - 6
1011010 - 90
100000101 - 261

Coincidentally, if you rearrange it into 8 digit lines it makes 10 perfect lines! Hmm... Here it is converted as well.

11000101 - 197
01000010 - 66
00010111 - 23
11001101 - 205
01110011 - 115
10101101 - 173
00001011 - 11
01000110 - 70
10110101 - 181
00000101 - 5

So I got all excited and looked it up in my handy ASCII table - and found nothing: "ÅB_Ís_µ_" (where _ is a non-visible character).

I'll continue in the search, but I didn't want anyone to duplicate the work. I then started looking through the poem and searching for lines that may alter the meaning. Here's some suggestions:

-The "thrice blood from blood" line really interests me - does this mean we may need to perform some math here - subtracting parts from others three times? (As a point of interest, a search for the line yields nothing on Google, but "thrice blood" brings up an RTF file of correspondence with Abraham Lincoln - too weird.)

-perhaps the lines should be considered as rhyming couplets - the two rhyming lines could add up (or subtract) to mean something.

-the entire poem is just a threatening note, except the part that mentions "she" (with a broken oath I at last got her) - is this Nihilisia, the recipient - or some other character we haven't found yet?

----------------------------------------------------

The only thing missing from the summary, Grimace is the hint at religious icons throughout the messages. According to Bible.com, it's Genesis Chpt 8 which mentions the raven and the dove - but it's an olive branch/leaf in the King James/Revised Std versions respectively. Is this change to the reference trying to draw our attention to the word "palm"?

That 8-digit reorganisation looks very promising... perhaps the numbers will ring a bell with someone? <looking hopefully around the thread>

The 'she' in the sonnet is peculiar, yeah - I think it *must* be another character.

Re: religious references. Is there anything apart from the Noah allusion (which is odd indeed)? I suppose you could regard the Greek mythology & the masonic references as being religious, but I don't see it as being a strong theme. I can be persuaded tho'.

Trivia re: birds and palm leaves. There is a kind of palm called a Phoenix Palm. The Hooded Oriole weaves its nest out of palm leaves. Hmmm.

Maybe getting off-topic

In my random searching, I've noticed that both the dove and the palm leaf are common symbols for inscribing in gravestones. There's a lot of different interpretations about what they mean, but I remember Ewan mentioning how much time he spent hanging around cemeteries...

Right: the guide is updated, but it's a mess, and for that I apologise. When I get a free afternoon I shall have a go at making it a bit more user-friendly.

Any suggestions for improvement gratefully received.

1st a quick intro: I received the first aqua matron email a while back. I played the A.I. game but haven't done any ARGs since. It took me a while to find this place and I haven't had anything to contribute yet. For my own sanity Ive been working on reformating your guide and adding little observations of my own to it and little things from this forum that got left out. I thought I was done and then you went and added more to it! I don't want to step on any toes or anything but Ill upload my reformatting of your guide tomorrow if you like. No offence to yours of course but I think its a little clearer to follow. I dont want to be little miss upstart guide usurper though so Ill wait for your ok.

I posted it here. What we really need I think is a wiki so everyone can contribute.

It's heavily styled with CSS so anyone with an antiquated browser might not find it more readible after all. It should play nicely with other browsers though (I hope).

I originally had two main sections but was taught that outlines should have at least three items at each level so I added a section listing out the songs Ewan's mentioned in his LJ. Someone speculated that they might be important but I can't remember who.

That's terrific, lucky_starr - far beyond my abilities!

Pardon my ignorance - how do we go about getting one of those?

I updated the guide at http://www21.brinkster.com/luckystarrz/ with recent developments. I put a table at the bottom with the different spec about the characters identities. Names are grouped on rows according to name sets that go together.

Okay, so I figured out how to add my own page to the http://www.mssv.net/gamewiki.cgi wiki. I played around with it but it doesn't seem to allow raw formatting and I wasn't happy with the wiki-formatting-only version that I tried out (thank goodness for Find and Replace). So I ended up finding another wiki site that would let me use raw formatting.

The wiki guide is at http://inri.swiki.net/. I set the permissions so that "anyone" can edit it. In this case being an "anyone" requires registering for a free account, which isn't as good as I'd like. Its a fast registration process with minimal data entry at least.

If anyone has a wiki that allows raw formatting and doesn't require that editers create an account we can just move it over. In the meantime everyone feel free to contribute to it!

So I went to update the guide last night and swiki.net was down. It's still down today. Does anyone have the page up or cached and can post a copy?

swiki.net is back up, so the guide is available again (inri.swiki.net). I made a really minor update (added the promography.com stuff). That's all I have time for tonight.

Can someone else take over being in charge of updating the guide? Or at least can someones pitch in? I started my summer internship this week and I don't really hav time to keep it up. Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of HTML should be able to manage it. I think the code is pretty clean. You just have to cut and paste an old entry in the guide and then change the text basically. Easy.
