I've signed up to be an intern. They are waiting for more applicants before it will kick off.

A few days ago, I used the contact form to send an email asking if I would have to relocate to the UK for the internship.

Hi Spacebass,
1st off that's a really crazy name! I can't determine if it's bass like 'dropping the' or if it's supposed to be like the fish. There is something calming thinking about a giant Space Fish though. Lol!
I'm the facilities director here at ADI, so I'm afraid I can't answer your question about the Outreach Programme. I know we have divisions all around the world so maybe not?
I helped set up the auto-respond for the Outreach Programme email, so I know you can't get any info there.
Jane Chisholm would be who you need to talk to, but she's out of town for the next few days. So I'm afraid I can't really help you atm, but I will forward your question to her.
Jane's really good at her job and I know that the Outreach Programme is set to start in the next few weeks, so I'm sure she'll be able to answer all of your questions by then. Sorry I couldn't be much more help.
I hope you find that freshwater in the stars my friend!
Thanks!

I received a followup e-mail..
Quote:
Greetings!
Thank you again for applying to the Acoustic-Distortion Inc. Outreach Programme. I look forward to getting to know you better in the coming months. I'm certain that there are some questions that you have for us. Please be assured that they will all be answered in due time.
In the meantime I'd like to give you a little more information on the Programme below.
Thanks again for applying to the ADI Outreach Programme!
First a little note of caution from the CEO:
We appreciate your enthusiasm and general gung-ho attitude. However, we must ask that you do not email other people in our company about the Outreach Programme. We are an international cutting edge research firm and our employees are incredibly busy.
Some of you have even emailed our CEO. Seriously, if you think emailing the CEO of a future fortune 500 company about joining their intern program will score you points... it won't.
And to be honest with the reaction he had, those of you who did are lucky to still be included on the list of applicants. Please use some common sense and respect the time and privacy of our employees.
So what are the next steps then?
We have created an internet forum that we will use for evaluation during the Outreach Programme. We will email you the access link to the forums this coming Friday, Aug 15th 2014.
If you know of anyone else who you think would be a good fit for our Outreach Programme, we recommend that you point them to OutreachSPLAT acoustic-distortion.com before then so they can join you in the Programme.
Once you have access, please register and fill out your profile as completely as you are willing so that we can track your progress through the Programme.
Please also introduce yourself to us and your fellow Intern Class in the social thread.
The Outreach Program will consist of 27 Projects to be completed by the Intern Class. A new project will be released Tuesday and Friday of each week beginning on Aug. 19th 2014. Directions on completing the projects will be given in the forums.
Remember that you will be evaluated as a class on the projects themselves as well as participation and teamwork.
Thank you again for your interest in joining us here at Acoustic-Distortion Inc.. We are all looking forward to seeing what you as an Intern Class can accomplish!
Sincerely,
Jane Chisholm
Outreach Programme Director
Acoustic Distortion Inc

So, I'd say if you have not signed up yet - the dates to starting fresh into the intern process have been solidified?

Hey! I got an email from the facilities director, not the CEO!

I noticed that everything on the site, and everything they write, they write in a UK-style. 'programme' 'centre' 'through university' and especially the mention of 'RSPCA'. Normally, this isn't something I would consider relevant, but because they claim to be from Washington, DC.
In the event they revise their text, I've got an archive of the site made already. Seems there's a bit more going on than what's on the surface.
Unfortunately, now I have to leave for work, but I would be more than happy to share my findings later.

I sent them a message yesterday regarding them being in DC, since I am located there as well I asked if it would be possible to stop by to see the company before becoming an intern. No reply yet.

Just received this reply.

Hello Carl,
Sorry it's taken me a bit to get back to you. I've been running ragged trying to get the Outreach Programme all set up.
We're actually not in D.C., that is the US recruiting company that we hire to be able to find candidates. Trade regulations and such make us hire a US firm to do our recruiting across the pond. Since we do a lot of work with defence industries, we have a lot of contacts in D.C. and work with several subcontractors in the area.
Our corporate world headquarters is located right off the M4 in Swindon, England… so I think it would be quite a commute for you!
Talk to you soon!
Jane
Outreach Programme Director

I guess that would explain the wording and grammar on their site.

I suppose I find that suspect. Would the email footers name Swindon if the applicant were from the UK? They would have no way to know where an email came from, geographically speaking.
I realize this is young and likely irrelevant, I just like to investigate every angle.

I guess if they really really wanted to they could check the email headers for an originating server IP address but I'm sure they're not doing that. Maybe they're just listing DC assuming most participants are going to be US based?
