Reddit ARG?: Information I'm dumping here for safekeeping

I found this potential Reddit mystery/ARG via a film critic's twitter, and the author of the Reddit post openly identifies himself as Hollywood screenwriter/director Eric Heisserer. His next project is an alien invasion movie, so it's possibly a tie-in.

Nevertheless, a woman and her child have gone missing, and she left a few cryptic clues. Read the full post for the back story.

No trailhead, just a few scans of a discarded notebook dating back 1951-1952. It belonged to an assistant of a Filipino ethnographer and photographer, it's written in a rarely spoken dialect called Ilocano Ifugao (therefore no one has been able to decipher it yet), and it outlines some kind of photography process involving strobe lights.

Along with the scans are eerie photographs taken by the woman recently of her missing child's bedroom.

This, in colour with a modern camera:

These are done with a different, analogue process, presumably the same one outlined in the old notebook:

If anyone can help with either translation, or finding out more details, that'd be swell. You can continue the dialogue over on the Reddit thread if you so please Smile

Well the developed photographs have a creepy door in them...

Also, I noticed that in each of the journal pages there is very faint writing in the margins and over the main text, as if the writing from the previous page bled through. But the "background writing" on page 22 matches that of page 12 (same diagram and bullet points), which would mean that page 22 came after page 12 in this journal??

However, we don't have a photo of the source of the background text on page 8/9. I could make out a few words (adjusting contrast helped a little):

Quote:
"hot coal (chasing?)", "crashing down flowing into sand (?) into (?) rock, shoreline where sun (?) its womb from which we...(?)."
