The ultimate mystery: will there be another video in my lifetime?

Given that it's school time right now and midterms (well at least for me) are like a week away, I can see why there haven't been anything recent.

BUT overall it's been like [6 months to 1 1/2 year = 1 or maybe 2 videos.]

There wasn't anything all Summer though :/ The wait is now longer than the wait for A proposal/A summoning was. Are they giving updates on Tumblr at all? I gave up checking.

I have the tendency to do that, I get it. I dunno why I didn't see your earier question though, now to respond to that.

I've seen Adam post on tumblr that Halloween Hotel was an entry that doesn't affect the overarching plot, and he just sort of made it up as he was going along, then edited it together. Really the only thing about HH that follows over is the hotel that he visits.

So I don't know if he considers it to be quote unquote filler but I just found it surprising that one of my favourite entries is one that he didn't exactly plan.

That, right there, is the concerning thing. I get that most Slenderseries creators are college students, and it makes sense that that is the case - few people who are out in full-time work have the time to do this stuff, and whilst I have seen some good stuff come out of high school kids working this stuff, they often don't quite have the same independence that college students have and that constrains what they can do with a series.

That being the case, it's natural that series will have busy patches and slow patches. Either they'll be busy during term time, when everyone is together at college (if the main cast and crew all know each other through that), or they'll be busy during the holidays, when people are at home (if the cast and crew all know each other through a shared home region). And on top of that, there'll be work crises and exams and so forth that delay things, and that's all understood.

On the other hand, what you have here is a series which is struggling to produce updates at *any* time, whether in termtime or the holidays. That's going to sap series momentum horribly, no matter how prominent the series is.

Dipping quickly back into EMH (I stopped following a while back) it looks to me like a large proportion of recent videos seem to involve Vince being stuck in a house with Evan/HABIT and not really being able to leave. That strikes me as exactly the sort of video you'd make as a stopgap measure to cover a break due to schedule clashes. But if the schedule clash isn't resolved - or if it gets worse, with more key people being unable to participate - then you can't rely on that sort of video forever.

So far as I can tell, EMH is in a place where every four months or so they get around to making a video, or a small clutch of videos, and it's been that way for coming up to two years now. That creates big problems as far as maintaining storytelling momentum or public interest goes. To an extent I find myself sympathising with the EMH guys' decision to go do a bunch of crossover stuff as and when the opportunity has presented itself over the past few years, because for whatever reason they've been prevented from applying their full energies to giving this series a shot in the arm so helping other series along at least accomplishes something.

Lesson to future Slenderseries creators: Plan out your series ahead of time, plan out a beginning, middle and end, and plan to have the series finished within a short timescale. The longer a series runs, the more likely it is to run into scheduling conflicts, and the more you get mired in scheduling conflicts the less likely it'll be that you'll actually finish your series.

I admire MH, TT, EMH and DH for how long they've been doing this, but they've all run into scheduling problems to a varying extent and they've all been affected by them. (Later series of MH, in particular, work much better if you binge watch a bunch of them at once rather than paying attention to the spacing between entries.) And I think the lesson to take from their experiences is for the love of Slendles, don't plan on being able to churn out entries at a constant pace a year from now. It won't happen.

Heh, that's increasingly my experience with TT - I end up enjoying little things here and there more than I enjoy the overarching structure itself. (For instance, I dig a lot of the super-distorted monochrome crazypants videos for the aesthetic they have, and really dug that shot of the Collective sat in a line with Slenderbenders behind them, but the actual Collective plot itself leaves me increasingly cold.)

Couldn't agree more... it's kind of worrying that the MH creators have implied they're still going to have the same kind of schedule for their next series.

And on the subject of EMH, correct me if I'm wrong, this is by a pretty good margin the longest wait between videos now, isn't it?

I didn't even start watching this series until two months ago or so and I can almost guarantee that this is one of the longest waits for a video in the history of the Slender Man Mythos, second only to the seven-month hiatus Marble Hornets did.

Then again, I could be wrong.

If you thought that was bad, imagine how having a daughter will affect the schedule for Troy.

But back to EMH, unlike TT I can't see how they haven't updated yet. I can understand they want to take time off and work on other stuff like THAC in their down time (e.g. make comedy sketches as found on the Shamlife youtube) but when they make an unrelated video like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYZy4a4tHG0&list=UUNk3nbhHj-Pyby-HvVNB4fg
you start to question where their priorities are.

And I know it's sacrilege as EMH is my favourite series.

Yeah but Sirens and Twigs are both so good I can't hate them.

I'll be honest when that came out though I was disappointed that they had nothing to offer for EMH.

I think the THAC guys might be able to maintain a somewhat more consistent schedule for their new series if only because they seem to be serious about going semi-professional with this - plus having got MH under their belts, they can sit down and plan out the new series taking into account all the experience they've had with delays and scheduling so they can incorporate an appropriate buffer.

I'm not saying I hate Sirens (while I do find it poor) but it was disappointing. I've been really patient with TT and EMH but the most recent EMH videos haven't been giving me huge inceptive to keep tuned which is sad. On the other hand TT has been keeping a relatively high standard so I can understand why Adam is taking his time, he needs to maintain that standard and/or surpass it. I'm talking about TT so much because the latest videos are so heavily involved with EMH it isn't exactly out of place.

I'd love to discuss this point further but it doesn't belong in this thread. My two cents is that even with the planning, the schedule will still be a mess.

The only series that does upload on a consistent schedule that I can think of is MHunter0012. I like EMH's story better, but till now, it feels more disjointed. I'm slowly forgetting details of the plot because it's been so long before I've seen an episode.

I wish EMH was like Dark Harvest in a sense (which is now my favorite series, mainly for its realism), where there's a canonical reason for the delays.

So, I guess I'll be the one to break the news that there's a new EMH up! It's called The Blue Room.

I was about to mention that, only noticed the site was back up today. All I have to say is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
wow, something big must have happened for Vinnie(assuming that is him) to turn off his camera IF it was him, not the light being dimmed to a point where everything was pitch black. Also...a USB device, a gun and a box, I wonder if they are gonna go back into the ARG elements again.

I enjoyed the suspense in this one. I hope there will be more to come.
