[SPEC] Jason Morelli and what he did...

Hello all,

I'm not sure how much worth speculation is at this point of the game, but I felt I should at least say this.

I know what Jason Morelli did...

Or at least I have a picture that seems pretty compelling to me. Wink

More then one person has brought up the fact that the Covenant could use triangulation to try to find Earth. Whatever current concerns maybe in effect, our old broadcasts are still out there. While the signal may be too weak to be used effectively for triangulation, it still provides too much of a clue to Earth's location.

So, it all starts to come together. Buoys sent to confuse the Enemy. Jason Morelli's interest in old music. Old broadcasts.

Jason Morelli's job was to fill the broadcast schedule of buoys and deploy said buoys. These buoy's would send faint signals, faint as though they had been travelling for five hundred or so years. The Covenant worlds would see a signal in the direction of some star cluster, faint enough to have been travelling hundred of years. They follow up and find the triangulation is all wrong. The broadcasts are coming from inside Covenant space.

Get enough of these together, and the faint signal from Earth becomes lost in a sea of noise.

I like this idea. Ties up a lot of various things together.

Still, for all I know, this is waaaay trout. This is just occuring to me, and I don't remember seeing like spec. So I thought I'd submit it for your approval.

At any rate, it doesn't really mean much in the larger sense of the story, just an interesting little side street to explore.

Luke P.

seems to make sense to me.

I had actually been wondering about this... for some reason the other day I thought "what about all the transmissions going out now?"

this would solve that dilemma.

Actually, I don't think anyone has ever explored it that fully, or made the connection in quite that way.

It makes perfect sense. Good work.

Sounds good to me. Either he was the best man for the job, or he acquired his love for the music by being surrounded by ancient transmissions.

I heartily approve. Good spec. I don't think we'll see anything to confirm or disprove it conclusively, though.

Burrito for you!

Burritos are supposed to be a reward for flattery, dear, not just a reward in general. Razz

I seem to recall from The Fall of Reach, that UNSC outposts would drop probes that would briefly enter slipspace to trace activity, in order to detect enemy ships before they dropped out of slipspace. I think the navigator on the Pillar of Autumn was recruited from one such outpost. Could these two things be related?

I might as well say that I also think that is great [spec]. I deffinatly !approve. I was surprised to see a [spec] thread at this point, but it was a good surprise. That ties up several ends nicely.
