Oh, I think we do have some mutual friends Smile Let's see the puzzle. I understand if your mate doesn't want involvement. Is he/she worried? No need to be worried with us.

Waiting for your reply,

Karen

Im using a friends computer tonight as mine keeps on getting g reen screen and not working properly. I should be able to get it fixed on monday when I go to work as there is a bloke there who can fix things when it comes to computers. It's not mine but my friends but since the stick went in usb sick I mean it went funny. It had lots of files but one which was really odd. The thing is I found it in. Well you'll think Im odd but it was in my attic and I think it was my parents. Im 60! And not into computers. Nor where they. So how did it get there? I'm not sure about this rely so I don't want to get anyone in trouble but I think it might be to do with spies and stuff. But then there was the file that was addressed to me. To me!
My friend says he needs to go now but I can visit him instead tomorrow night as he is interested in this as well. My first friend, the one who lent me his computer and which I may have broken is not up for helping after seeing the file but my second friend, the one who's computer im using now came round to see me tonight with his laptop in his car
Which he never normally does. Coincidence I suppose.
Thanks for offering to help.
Will email you again on Monday or maybe tomorow if john is able to come round again.
Thanks
James

I got a message from Jaadian that James needs more friends, so I contacted him and had to convince him that I can be trusted so I told him that I know Karen. Then I got this reply

hi eletha
its an odd thing but i'm not going abck to home - didnt get to be 60 wihtout trusting in myinstict you know?
ok- you now karen as well - ok - but none of this didn't happen until i found that usb i don't believe in curses or stuff like that but it does seem odd
anyhow - why was he taken - his names john, from work, by trhe way - they had traced his computer and said that he had files that were suspect on it - nothing happened until the usb went into his machine
hence ive still got my other friends laptop [which i am not even saying name of now as he was already paranoid] and i'm working around the country in my lorry.
good thing with services everywhere - free wifi. he taught me that much before they took him away. they said theyd release him but i'm going to go away from sheffield - wasn't doing me any good anyway and was thinking about moving elsewherere in the country was only renting there anyhjow
sorry i'm rambling but so nice to talk to someone who doesn't thnk i;m crazy or odd rambling on about usbs with files addressed to me. i mean thyats odd right.
anyhow i can stick the file sorry stick in and see the files but half of them are all password protected and the other half are just a mixture of random words and letters, pictures and stuff. apart from the other fuile.
i learned basics of iopening word and stuff at my local lubrary [sheeffield] but no idea how to share them - could you talk me throgh please?
oh, theres the alarm. have to go and do nexst bit of driving - will be on later - have regulated hours every day is different though
chat soon - give karen my best if you talk to her - is she ok?
James

I said he can try to send the files to me and I know more people who are good with codes. But if there's a better way to share files where everyone can see them, please let me (or James!) know.

Aww, that's so cute that he's asking about me Smile
I would love this ARG to keep going, so if more people could shoot him a quick email saying they will help him, that would be great!

Dear Mr James Lawrence Cox
On the night of my 29th birthday, I have imagined a great visitation. Whilst I do not hold greatly in the realms of the supernatural, the entity that stands before me, in a coat of cashmere and suit of finest wool, assures me that his (I say his, though I am unsure to determine a gender on this creature would be wise) presence here is nothing to do with my multitude of libations this evening (this is an attempt at a joke – if I am to become as known, as Jaadian the presence in front of me suggests, you hoefuly will be able to laugh?)
This is being typed carefully, my third attempt, as it has to travel to you. It will be sent to your address, electronically, in the same house as I live now. This I do not understand but am assured that my words will reach you.
I have to convey to you that this is not a hoax or game, that the contents of my writings which I hereby also enclose will be safe with you and that even I will not be able to access them once they have been somehow manipulated upon an item smaller than my own palm and with a curious end, akin to a socket or child's toy.
The reason is, as Jaadian has informed me, the passwords needed to unlock these files are based upon writings that I have yet to do. He has just smiled and this unnerves me but I am assured by him continually that both my future and presence depends on this information getting to you safely.
I have chosen you for being the bearer of this information in the future as you share the name of my landlord, a kind and generous man whom I hope you to have a distinct parentage line from.
Why these writings are important I do not know, for Jaadian is not permitted to tell me and nor am I to write about what they contain.
Please, find friends who can help you but do not trust anyone with the protected information itself. It is of great import and will somehow affect "the relative way in which we all think". (This sentence was uttered by Jaadian as an instruction to type – this I have done but do not understand - Perhaps it will to you?)
My thanks for even reading this - I am unsure of what it will create, cause or even mean in the morning but I know that stranger things occur than are dreamt of in our imaginings and therefore will finish this missive.
I am allowed one request for my enacting of this part – one wish or granting of a desire. I do not desire the future knowledge, nor do I seek anything that the creator has not governed me with already but I understand that I, and my kin, will be dead when you read this.
If so, and we have lived an honourable life in your opinion, I would ask that you would be kind enough to ensure that my sister's grave has a rose placed upon it from yourself and your friends.
In friendship,
Arthur Stanley Eddington.

I solved the second code
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's rot13. So, is the second pw 'ellipse'?

"Instead of a path with loops and nodes, the orbit is now seen to be one of the most elementary curves-password is ellipse. We have to realize that the little planet on which we stand is of no great account in the general scheme of nature; to unravel that scheme we must first disembarrass nature of the distortions arising from the local point of view from which we observe it. The sun, not the earth, is the real centre of the scheme of things-at least of those things in which astronomers at that time had interested themselves-and by transferring our view-point to the sun the simplicity of the planetary system becomes apparent. The need for a cumbrous machinery of spheres and wheels has disappeared."

I'm gonna email my suggestion to James.

I can't attach the third file, but here's the first two.
password1.pdf
 Description
 Filesize   115.47KB

Unfortunately, this file is no longer in our archives.

password2.pdf

 Filesize   33.06KB
    84 Time(s)

Unfortunately, this file is no longer in our archives.

Password 1 - Locked down:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In the days before Copernicus, the earth was, so it seemed, an immovable foundation on which the whole structure of the heavens was reared. Man, favorably situated at the hub of the universe, might well expect that to him the scheme of nature would unfold itself in its simplest aspect. But the behaviour of the heavenly bodies was not at all simple; and the planets literally looped he loop in fantastic curves called epicycles. The - password is: cosmo

To Solve:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Start on page one and travel through the maze. It actually ends on page four, but the rest is red herring territory. It looks like the filler is things like "The music of the spheres," "epicycle," and "revolutions"

And sent a quick e-mail name-dropping Karen and Eletha as mutual friends and telling him Password 1 and offering future help. Excelsior!

E-Mail (Contains Decoded Password One text)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dear James,

I'm a friend of Karen's and Eletha's and have been helping out with the weird files you've been saddled with. This is some odd stuff!

Took at look at the file named Password 1 and think I've got it figured out. The de-mystified text reads: In the days before Copernicus, the earth was, so it seemed, an immovable foundation on which the whole structure of the heavens was reared.

So there you have it - password 1 is cosmo.

Good luck with everything, and please let me know if there's anything else you need help with - happy to apply some of my brainpower to your troubles!

Your friend,
John
