Re: Epidermis

You probably don't need to spoiler the puzzle… just the actual solution when you have one Smile http://www.ancientsocieties.com/epidermis/

its a series of numbers

thats the message.

guess i'll start working on it

So what I've gotten so far is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The first four and last four numbers can be solved via a 'calculator code' -- i.e., reading them upside down ("overturned") on a digital calculator.

BESIEGE
LOSSES
SIEGES
BLOODSHED

HELLHOLE
IDEOLOGIES
OBSESSED
BLEED

The middle line 05241571 is the one I can't figure out because it isn't solvable by a calculator code so it must be the 'raised nail' that has to be solved another way.

For the Epidermis challenge.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Possibly the middle one is a date?

"The next year, in 1571, the Spaniards returned, this time led by Governor-General Legazpi himself. Seeing them approach, the natives set fire to the town, levelling it to the ground, while the people fled to Tondo and neighboring towns."
Later the city became a capital of the Philippines. Sounds like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

Not sure where to go from there though.

Russian-Tartar War

Check that date 05/24/1571 (MM/DD/YYYY - American-style) and cross-reference it to the Russian-Tartar War.

Once you find it - check the principal theater (city) of that war.

HELP?
ingress code?

please help!?

so I was replying to this possible Endgame related Niantic thread. And I got a thank you message with a code at the bottom. I tried to access Ingres with it but it didn't work. I'm not yet a player.
so today I got a new message with a new code and the message this time started with the word 'again' … yea I feel stupid. Embarassed
the format is like "abc1234keyword56dfg"
… anybody a ingress player? Where does a code like that go?
I don't want to waste it again by trying to put it in the wrong place or something. can it be to the special Endgame app? the beta?

Thank you

Actually, to be nitpicky - just one ARG (online), and one puzzle contest for $500k in gold (via the book, not connected).

That's a passcode. They're quite common and usually tend to give you a couple of items in Ingress. They can either be entered in the Ingress app or on http://ingress.com/intel (you have to make your account first, though).

Actually the book one has an ARG side to it, since all main characters plus at least one extra one have accounts that one can interact with. The fact that there is a money prize at the end and it starts with a book doesn't make it less of an ARG Wink

Actually, I think everyone needs to put up a wall between the Ancient Societies ARG and the book contest (whether or not you want to call that an ARG).

For contest reasons, any open discussion of the book and its associated online "interactive experience" might disqualify people from winning any prizes. (That lack of community play is why thebruce will tell you it is NOT really an ARG, no matter how ARG-ish it may appear.)

Personally, I think this kind of cross-contamination is going to confuse things needlessly. Full disclosure: I am not participating in either game.

Out of curiosity, was the glyph ever recomposed anywhere from the 4 strips that appeared in 4 frames spread within the "What are you waiting for?" video?

I've stripped them out and attempted to put'em together (attached) for the record Smile Not sure if there's more strips, but I didn't notice any...

Brotherhood of the snake.
And yes someone had done it. You can find it in the wiki

Glad to see Unforums are back!

Just a quick post to say that the Endgame ARG is still going on with tricksy daily Challenges, slow unveilings of past civilizations, and psycho-chick videos. You know, the usual stuff.

There has been a "Story So Far" post on the blog site, for those trying to catch up. Basically it shows you the various bits that have been uncovered through the daily Challenges.

http://www.ancientsocieties.com/my-story/

Also, today there is going to be some kind of video/Twitter in-character Q&A:
Quote:
Second, on Thursday October 30th, at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 6pm GMT, I will be answering your questions with a video response in real-time. I'll open up for questions a bit beforehand on AncientSocieties.com, so get ready. The best way to follow along will be on Twitter, so please Follow Me and tell your friends. The hashtag will be #StellaQA.

(warning: this is going to be a bit of a mini-rant, but since no one else here seems to be paying any attention to this ARG, I guess that's okay.)

So tonight "Stella V" our lovely Teacher and giver of daily Challenges, posted this comment on the latest solution page:

Stella wrote:
I have to tell you, Students, the ratio of (misplaced) complaints to meaningful discourse has become disconcertingly high here. The pronunciation of La Tene is very well, and very consistently documented - I don't care WHO said differently. And complaining that I somehow "changed the rules" on the last line of my Challenge is just silly. Being able to see a pattern and then expand on it was the POINT. If you want to follow the "rules" go back to the Children - they have plenty of them out there. Everyone else, please focus on what needs to be done. I've got enough on my mind without listening to this whining.

So this really rubs me the wrong way. I don't think that I have ever had a PM actually take the opportunity to berate his/her players like this before. Perhaps this is being done "in character," but somehow I don't think so. If some players are complaining because some of these Challenge solutions seem arbitrary or require leaps of logic that only seem sensible in hindsight, then that is their right. It's pretty simple: Without the players, there isn't a game. I realize that it must be a strain to try to come up with reasonable puzzles 6 days a week -- and not every puzzle is going to be a complete winner -- but I don't see the purpose of trying to shame players into somehow behaving a certain way. Even if the PM truly loathes the fact that the players are ignoring the story content and are choosing to complain about the puzzle solutions instead, then this should be kept behind the curtain. Find other, more positive ways to get us to focus on what you want.

And whether the comment above is in-character or not, I find it pretty hypocritical to scold us for trying to follow the "rules" and to "focus on what needs to be done," when so far all we have been given to do is to dutifully try to solve these daily challenges that don't really seem to have a discernable in-game reason for existing, with not much more to focus on at this point.

That's my rant.
