There's a song, and a puzzle, and exploration!

Sooooo, I saw he made it to California today. He shared a blurry video of:
Quote:
@talbotgriffin: First accident I've seen the whole trip. Sad http://t.co/CaXwBf15Ts
which I'm not entirely certain he wasn't A part of...

And now it would seem Talbot found an interesting place to stay, with quite the welcoming siren. She walked him, by candle light, to his room (he took pics the whole time, kinda a creeper eh?). And he is staying in Room 27.

His FB says he is at the "Hotel L I O N" (exactly like that) which according to SWARM is located in Bagdad, California, which according to Wikipedia is a ghost town.

Anyone else have Hotel California stuck in their heads?

If you go into satellite views there are no standing structures near where he checked in. So not just a typical abandoned building ghost town. I was hoping for at least a building to look at and research. My hope was too high...

It isn't uncommon for locations to be invented for ARGs though, so this doeant have to mean "the building doesn't exist in the ARG" - that isn't to say it does exist in the ARG either Wink

Since I refuse to download swarm, can anyone tell me what happens when you click on the link for the location? Are there "reviews" or anything like that? Since it's an invented location, anything at all could be important.

Hotel Guests

I can't wait to see who the other guests in the hotel turn out to be.

I'm trying to remember who else signed up for that perk. I had sorta figured it out during the indiegogo (most of them at least) and we already saw Robert Pratten & Jim Stewartson. I don't know if I missed anyone else yet. I'm loving this method of inclusion. I feel like it is influenced from the Utopia blackmail videos, knowing Steve is a fan of Utopia.

"Not enough ratings"
"No tips here yet! Be the first to write one."
"Total visitors 0"

So nada on Hotel L I O N via Swarm. Think it's safe to say it's an invented ARG location.

Photo of the woman with the lit candle is the Swarm photo for the location. (I had assumed it was one that Talbot took when I saw it on FB.)

Hotel California

I'm here with Shad0 and he asked, does this look familiar?

CA F R IA

That's "CALIFORNIA" with all letters but "L I O N" burned out.

And there you have it. Talbot's at the Hotel California. Smile

Sorry if I'm not catching something obvious, but where did you find the missing letters?

Totally not discounting your find, I'm sure you're right, particularly with the lyric references and photo of the "woman with the candle showing him the way"....Just feeling like I missed something....

I don't think there is an actual physical sign they are referencing, I think they just mean if there was a sign with all the letters but L I O N burned out, that's what it'd look like.

I have a feeling Talbot isn't going to make it to LA for his gigs...

That Hotel

So yeah, looking at the song lyrics (from a lyrics site..probably not terribly reliable),

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (Any time of year)
You can find it here

Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the Captain,
"Please bring me my wine"
He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine"
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
Bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said "We are all just prisoners here, of our own device"
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax, " said the night man,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!"

I sent him a text this morning about heading off to LA. He replied a little while ago that he plans to be in LA this evening (it's only 4 hours away from his hotel?). Two minutes later he posted on FB about the pool party and plans for a late checkout.

he's actually quoted the song a few times as well. I knew there was something up with the way L I O N was written.... thank you for figuring that part out. I feel dumb LOL Okay, I'm gonna try to match all this stuff up so far {I'm fairly sure we won't get a representation of "warm smell of colitas" but yeah, there has been a LOT else so far} Bear with me while i post/edit/post/edit rinse repeat

EDIT: it will be easier for me to do this in in a spread sheet, so for now you can view my work here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dIvvNNkgV6ocjMW3wCjjzmehaHN2CKXA1SD4zh2X57o/edit?usp=sharing
