[META] Advice on Halo 2 Preorder Needed So I preordered Halo 2 at Best Buy (yes, the limited edition). Like many here every day that Halo 2 comes closer my excitement and anticipation grow to a more fevered pitch than the day before. I have dorked out for this game like no other. I loved Halo: Combat Evolved from the first time wrapped my hands around an XBOX controller. Frankly, they had me at Halo (terrible joke, sorry). Then ILB came along and one ARG and three books later I am more invested in the story then I ever was with The Flash (trust me, that's saying something; see: my username).
So to struggle back to the point of this post without further singing the praises of a game that still has yet to be released, I will be one of the masses waiting outside Best Buy at midnight to pick up my copy of Halo 2. In this regard I am looking for guidance from a veteran of preorder craziness. How early should I show up at Best Buy to have at least a reasonable chance of being near the front of the line? Your advice would be appreciated.
As a side note. If you enjoy XBOX live as a venue for healthy competition and smacktalk and not as a semi-anonymous forum in which you can scream obscenities and racist comments that your mommy won't let you use in public then look me up. My gamertag is the same as my username; Professor Zoom.

Generally, people suggest blunt instrutments, but I find that these can only take down one person at a time and you can easily get taken down by the crowd. I suggest using some sort of chemical...

perhaps a sticky crowd control foam, or a pulsed light set at frequencies to sicken and incapacitate the crowd.

I'd call your Best Buy and see how many preorders that particular store has. Also, check and see if they'll be selling copies to non-preorder people. If preorders are in the 100's, get there at least an hour early. 2 would be better. If they're selling to the general public, at least 2 hours should get you in and out somewhat quickly.
We go to Black Friday at Best Buy every year, and there's usually about 500 people in line to get in at 6:30 in the morning. We've learned that we can get in and get out fairly quickly if we wait in line for about an hour. Halo fans are a lot more dedicated, so doubling that is probably a good idea.
I might also suggest cancelling your preorder at BB and hitting a smaller game store. All EBs and Gamestops that I know of are having midnight sales. If you find a smaller store that isn't in a highly populated location, you might have better luck. I preordered our copies at a brand new non-mall EB that opened about a month ago. I think they only have about 50 presells. I probably won't try to get up there until 11:30.

I wouldn't recommend canceling at this late date... it's highly unlikely (like, winning-the-lottery unlikely) that you'd be able to still get a Limited Edition. It's looking like the bonus DVD is pretty sweet if you're interested in behind-the-scenes stuff, plus it includes the cinematics and apparently some dropped footage as well.
However, if you don't want/need the extra stuff and the shiny metal case (for a mere USD$5 extra) you might get away with a midnight madness elsewhere.
-- Steve just got the Official Xbox Magazine for this month, and is manfully trying to resist the sealed spoiler section inside. Just three more days... *twitch* *twitch*

I preordered mine at an EB near my house (I've had it preordered for over a year now), and every time I go in I ask how it is doing. About a month ago they said they had over 400 preorders, so I'm slightly worried about getting it early. I went to another EB (in a mall north of where I live), and they said that they are the main distribution center for the area. They are getting-wait for it- over 10,000 copies of Halo 2 in. They aren't selling them all, they go to any store in the Colorado/Wyoming area, but he said that there aren't any stores in the area that have less than 350 preorders. And that was about a month ago! I am hoping that most of those people won't show up till later in the day, cause I am going to the midnight opening tonight. I am going to show up about an hour early and hope that no one else will be there. I know the guys at my EB personally, so maybe they can sneak me up front, lol.

my EB is only selling 100 copies or until 2 AM, whichever comes first. You need a special ticket to get in and such, given out at the store in advance (long story but i got lucky to get mine). I'll probably show up about 11-11:15, we'll see how it goes.

As of Saturday, my EB had 70 LE preorders and 150ish regular preorders. But like I said, they just opened about 6 weeks ago. They're starting "registration" (whatever that means) at 9:00, are giving "games and stuff" away via raffle between 9 and 11, and are starting the line at 11.

I pre-ordered in Febuary, and they already had around 300 orders... however, a friend and I went back a little later and paid off our copies, which the manager there (cool guy, he knows us by name... ) said got us to the top of the line. They're dividing it up to a paid/VIP line and a non-paid/you'll be lucky to get it before 2am line. I'm still gonna show up about 10pm but that's mainly for fun. I have nothing else to do, and I know a lot of the people who are going to be at this particular EB.
I would suggest for Best Buy, you show up a couple hours early, and come prepared to wait a while.
