Maybe is to late to give a new idea/theory, but in my opinion, the last video is an event between Le premier cours and Breaking the Lease

Sadly, I'm getting to that point.

And, though I hate to divert from EMH on its own thread once again, just started watching WhisperedFaith, and, yes, that's very great as well.

You can just a video like that and fuck off for a few months, it needs to be followed up sooner rather than later. The immersion of the story slightly hinges on it. As for WhisperedFaith, told ya so Razz

That's true--though this could be something... more... and I'm not giving up on EMH just yet.

This could also be a We Heard Ya Yappin' About Your New Entry So Here's Your New Entry entry...

We shall see... eventually...

I'd hate to think they made a video just because people were bitching, if that truly was the case I'm done with EMH.

Yeah, we're already past the point that I can completely understand people jumping ship, & while I'm trying to plow through & say it's just a rough spot, to be honest, they're not exactly inspiring confidence. If they'd just say, "Okay, we're done with the crossover stuff," that would probably renew my interest. Because, seriously, can anyone honestly say that there have been too few crossover videos that they won't be satisfied if it ends here? And while I'll give credit to the crossover for dropping a major hint with Jeff & clarifying HABIT's relationship to Slenderman, other than that, it didn't do much for EMH. I guess there was showing Vince participating in HABIT's games, but we had the Rabbits for that. All of the other major developments have been immediately before the crossover or in non-crossover videos.

It's just been going on for so, so long, and spent so long in this holding pattern. It doesn't feel like there's even very much story left to tell, which makes it more confusing - if anything, it feels like they could wrap this up with 2-5 substantial videos if they wanted to.

If they said "OK, no more crossovers - as fun as they were, we need to put the needs of our own series ahead of all the crossover stuff, and right now what our series desperately needs is for us to focus our time and attention on it to give it a bit of momentum and give it the final act it deserves", that would perk up my interest.

But not very much. The thing is, I think the point when they could have usefully said that and then knuckled down and worked through the last significant bits of the EMH story already went by months ago, if not years ago. Assuming they're still making good faith attempts to keep the series going, the most optimistic explanation for the horribly slow pacing of late seems to be scheduling issues, where the practicalities of getting together and filming stuff just aren't coming together; that's only going to increase as they get older and have more adult/post-college responsibilities.

Moreover, when I said "most optimistic" up there, I meant it. There are some alternate explanations aside from "their schedules just won't let them shoot the material they want to shoot" for why the series seems to be in a rut; the problem is that more or less all the alternate explanations I can think of have even worse implications for EMH than "they just don't have time to do it". For instance:

- Maybe they've convinced themselves that they can't move EMH's plot on substantially until they've completed some crossover or other which is taking a while to sort out. I consider this bad for two reasons: the simple reason is "crossovers, ugh Rolling Eyes", the more complex one is that, if the crew really are waiting on some crossover to go ahead before progressing their series, that means they've got to a place where they are prioritising crossovers over the needs of EMH as a series. That doesn't make me feel good about the quality of upcoming EMH: if you don't even have enough enthusiasm for your story enough to make it your creative priority, why should your audience care.

- Maybe they have some sort of horrible collective writers' block - there's not been progress because they've written themselves into a corner and they can't agree on what should happen next. Again, if the series has come to a halt because of this sort of "creative difference", that doesn't bode well for its future.

Hey guys, I'm going to bring up something very, very old, that I just got a new idea about.

You remember the video "Alex" (the one where Evan pulls Jeff's head out of his ass for him and clue him in to the fact that his brother was being mauled in his sleep)? Remember how, at the end they found Vinny's phone in Alex's closet?

At the time, they played that off as saying that since they all spent so much time in each others houses, he could've lost his phone at any time. Perfectly reasonable, but it always bothered me because 1)why would it be in a closet, of all places, and 2) why Alex's closet? they didn't seem to spend that much time around Alex, and definitely not in his bedroom.

Now, remember the video (the name of which I've forgotten) where Vinny gives the revelation that they "aren't real"? That's the part everyone pays the most attention to, but he also said something else. He said that the event of "The Property" made him realize that their houses (his, and Evan's and Jeff's) were never separate places; they were always mashed together like that. They just couldn't see it before. It seems to me that whatever was keeping them from seeing it has broken down (or been taken down). this was demonstrated by Evan not being able to recall which house was his, and which was Vinny's.

What I'm saying is, if they've actually planned this thing out and aren't just making it up as they go along, maybe finding his phone in such an odd place was meant to be a subtle clue. Or, like an Easter egg we'd notice later, after watching the series again.

Or maybe I'm over-thinking this. I do that a lot Laughing .

And speaking of foreshadowing things and possibly over-thinking, in the video where they visit Alex and find out that Jeff has gone AWOL, his alarm clock/radio plays a song that people have said was from the video game "Alan Wake". If you have even my cursory familiarity with the plot of Alan Wake, you can see why I think that might be significant. Or just have too much time on my hands Wink .

Yeah, that seems fairly likely to me. Vinnie's been screwed with for months (or is it over a year now?) by HABIT and is likely to be in a fragile state of mind, and ripe for auto-suggestion. Still, with this series, you never know, and I'd love an infodump from a resurrected Jeff, or an expository entry involving a look into the past.

Yeah, I remember thinking some ludicrous thoughts about that when I first watched it, Lo Those Many Moons ago. One was particularly outlandish, and I discarded it out of hand because I couldn't see how it could possibly work: that Vinnie was or would become the Rake. Basically, the idea was linked to the Iteration Theory; Jeff would become Slenderman, Vinnie would become the Rake, and obviously Evan would become HABIT when they died and respawned, and through a series of MacGuffins they would be sent back in order to form a stable time loop.

I like to think about it every once in a while, despite its off the wall insanity, and this past entry brought it back to my mind. As I said, it's patently ridiculous, but on the (infinitesimally tiny) off chance that I just called the end of the series, I wanted to share it for posterity.

I had a pretty similar theory to that. Didn't Jeff wear a suit in the candleverse?

Honestly any criticism I could give to the new video's already been said. The thing is, I'm not sure I'd have had the energy to criticise it anyway. The feeling that the creators just don't care any more is stronger than ever, with such a bland, predictable video. If they were trying to troll us with that cliffhanger ending, I'm surprised they thought it'd work on anybody. It was so obvious that the ending was going to be a bland cliffhanger and that although one could hope a follow-up would come within a few days, there'd be another wait.

On a positive note, "littering is for cunts" is an amazing quote. And maybe a jab from HABIT towards Evan?

On the note of acting, I agree Jeff is the weakest and often seems like he just doesn't have much energy. However, I think his acting in Very Happy was great. Yeah, it was mostly just him sitting there looking hopeless but by god was he good at looking hopeless.

you're right there, he really did a good job in Very Happy, and I think he did okay in the Northern Trip Footage video from TT too.

It's one of my favorite lines in the series.

Also, recalling "Next"--remember the bald guy at the top of the stairs. THAT REALLY WAS ALEX. If you search around Jeffrey Koval's blog, you'll notice that Alex has gotten a haircut because he joined the military. So yeah...that says a...thing...or another thing...somehow...TAKE THAT HAH
