angelo is the bestest - I LOVED the image of us all standing and perching and sitting around him with his cell phone clamped firmly to side of head, as he scribbled in a notebook, and we're all, "puck! hockey! rugby? Hmmm, football? That's elliptical! What about a hockey rink? Stitches? Does anyone here do cross stitch? Do you sew, Goddesses?"

angelo = teh adorable

Hell, we're all the bestest. Chi-town! Raaar!

Damn you guys know how to make a guy blush...

I've decided I'm going to make a shadow box to hang in my hallway, and that picture is going to be the center piece (with the Goddesses + angelo being the next biggest pic... Wink ).

Now a question a bit off topic... Is it a good thing for a guy to be 'adorable' cause I'm getting that a lot lately... Wink

Of COURSE it's a good thing!!! Why wouldn't it be? Adorable means cute, approachable, fun, cuddly....

All great things.

btw, I'll develop what pics I have and post them later today or tomorrow.

Ok, that being the definition I will gladly accept adorable.

Anyone else have pics? I thought we had more then three cameras at the event...

I got back from my trip to SF last night. Couldn't report until now since I have had no internet access since Thursday.

Not much to say about the SF event that hasn't been said already. I was one of many who decided to bug the PMs outside rather than watch Halo2 (plus I was one of the first to get called up to play). Those guys are good people. It's especially great when you go up to talk to them and they already know who you are. I had been keeping to myself, partly because I had been up since midnight driving from Seattle, but when I introduced myself to Elan Lee and Sean Stewart there was a bunch of 'Oh!'s and then Shad0 shook my hand.

Also gratifying was when Jane/Dana told me they thought my crew picture with the 'Prepositions' sign was funny enough to be forwarded around between them.

I had to leave early before I fell asleep standing up, but not before vpisteve gave me a free t-shirt for driving the longest to get there.

All in all, I logged 2000 miles this weekend and it was worth every inch. Thanks to everyone there!

I went to the new york training event, I admit... it was pretty fun Smile. But thoughout the time I had this overwhelming feeling of like, pure regret. This whole time I wanted to get in on the fun, but I felt to... like... timid to participate. I'm always like that though...

I see all these people with there large 200+ post counts and I really, really dont feel like I would fit in, not with all these experenced people who have already made a difference.

Too late to change what happened last Thursday, but perhaps this will make your depressive slump a little shorter:

Yeah, I've got a great big post count off to the left. Big deal. All that really means is that I like to hear myself talk (watch myself type? whatever). When I got to SF, I wandered around like a lost idiot for the better part of twenty minutes, going to every ticket counter and help desk to ask, "If I said the Operator had a message for me, would you know what I was talking about?" and getting the same blank stares from every one of them. When I finally saw someone wearing an ILB T-shirt, I pounced on him as if he were a lifeline. Consequently, I got to stand in line with Arana and mann alive, and feel slightly less out of place.

Inside the theatre, there were clearly a few rows of BeeKeepers up front, whom Arana properly went to join since they included the rest of his Davis crew. Mann alive and I staked out a couple of seats several rows back, and he started asking people around us if they were from UF. They weren't. So he headed off to get some refreshments, and I was left there, looking around at the auditorium as it filled up, taking in all of the cheerfulness and camaraderie around me...

...and the only thought running through my mind the whole time was: "I've driven 370 miles to be here, with this incredible group of people, and I'm going to end up leaving without meeting any of them."

And I'm pretty sure that's exactly what would have happened if I'd been at any of the other events. I don't know anybody, I hide in a corner, I watch other people play Halo 2 and have a great time, and I go home from this once-in-a-lifetime event feeling vaguely depressed and let down. I've done it many times before, and I'm sure I'll do it again, so believe me when I say that I know exactly how you feel.

Do you know the only reason that it didn't happen this time? I noticed the PMs off to one side chatting with a bunch of people, and decided that looked a lot more interesting than what was happening on-screen. I thought I'd hover around the edges of the conversations, listening in, not actually getting up enough nerve to say anything, oh, heavens, no. But instead the PMs -- especially Jane, and Kristen too, and all four of them, really -- went out of their way to make sure I felt included, and special, and loved.

Let me say that last part again, just in case anyone hasn't figured it out over the past week, because it's important: They love us. They really do. A few other people have commented on this, but I'll add my voice to the swelling choir of praise. There's nothing in the world like meeting four celebrities you truly, truly admire -- closest analogy I can think of -- and having them seem just as thrilled to meet you.

And even though you weren't there, you should know that if they'd had the chance to meet you, they'd have done the same.

Dammit, now I'm getting all misty-eyed again. Stupid game.

Happiness is a warm hug from a PuppetMaster.

Shad0,
I already posted earlier in this thread about how it felt to me, but what you say I second and third and fourth and infinity. In usual circumstances at this type of event (not that I have ever attended this type of event before), I, too, would have hung around at the edges, listening in on others conversations at the most, but more likely sitting by myself.
I was lucky enough to have a friend with me (ariock) and new friends (shout out to SF and Berkeley crews) there already. But, as you say, what really brought me and you (and probably many of us) into animated conversations and hugs and laughter were the PMs, who set the mood, who made us feel part of the crowd, our crowd.
It was so great to meet you. You and I never would have met if it hadn't been for the PMs.

Sadly we at the Chicago event didn't have the opprotunity to meet any of the PMs Crying or Very sad, but I have to say I've never been made to feel more welcome by anyone in all my life.

The second I entered the theater I heard the shouts of the beekeepers in the upper levels of the theater. The second Disciple and I made it up we were immediately asked what our unfiction names were. I can honestly say I've never felt more loved in my life. The second the word 'angelo' rolled off my lips I started recieving high fives and thank you's. Disciple being a little less vocal stood much quieter, but he was welcomed into the group just as much as I was.

I would of absolutely loved to meet the pms, but had I been forced to choose between them and my keepers. I would of instantly chosen my crew.

I fall asleep for a few days and look what happens, everyone gets all misty eyed!

Belive it or not, I'm actually a pretty shy guy. No really! Angelo gave Clayfoot and me warning that the beekeepers were in the back of the theater somewhere. If he didn't give me that heads up, I would not have had the courage to yell "Beekeepers where you at!!!" as soon as I walked into the theater. What was even better was the roar from the crowd that let welcomed me. I wouldn't trade that feeling and the camaraderie of the eveing for anything. Even a hug from the PM.

Sadly, the pictures I took in the theater didn't come out well, but I did find one at Denny's that I hadn't posted yet.

The names of visible people in the picture that I know the names of are:

ATDT, Krystyn, Kali, Phaedra, Spie, and SuperJerms. Anyone else want ot add names to this?

Work Tuesday

This is the first Tuesday in Months that I have actually gotten significant work done...no fun at all. Besides it was just correcting work that turned out to be full of errors from last Friday. I miss the chase and I miss the spec so you will be subjected to a belated report from my visit to SF.

I wasn't going to go. My son's parent/teacher conference was a 3 that day. But I got a message from hrmpita! Yes THE savior of our lovely princess encouraging me to go. The fever got to me and I decided I had to go with the blessing o my wife and daughter.

On my trip I was sheparded by calls from Mazian and loyal Aggie ARG team member Pants through my chatter. The Metreon was baffling. No one there knew anything about Bees. Managed to get another call through to Pants who guided me to the outer of the two lines. There were many non-bee haloites there, but I bumped into someone with a name I remembered, man alive and got set to wait. I put on my Aggie ARG bee shirt and attracted my first celebrity, Shad0, Firefly moderator, and avid poster of some of the most lucid content on the ILB unforum pages. He actually remembered me!! I immediately felt at home with both of them.

We finally got in and I felt more like I belonged. The core of the Aggie ARG, Pants, Akodo Bob, BlueNinja and Prokaryotic-cell had kindly saved me a place up front and it was just like hanging out at our axon! I got to see Pita, Weephun and MadCow in the flesh!!!

The PM's were announced but to my disappointment left and headed toward the back after just a few bows. The lottery was efficiently run and Prokaryotic was picked as one of the first eight players (and represented us well by kicking seven other Master Chief a55es).

I have never played Halo, my only FPS games being Weekend Warrior and Nanosaur with my 4 yr old son. So I gravitated to the PM's. First talked to Markus (technical aspects) and got some details of how the phones were done etc. He assured me that I knew much more about the game than he did! Got to talk to all of those attending at least a bit and got signatures on my keepsake disk!

The time up in the lobby was the best. Mingling with the PM's, feeling the intesity of the chase again trying to make small contributions to the puzzle through Shad0 (as sharp and considerate in person as he is in his posts!) and Darkforge who seemed the most on top of it.

Then managed to squeeze in with Elan and Sean as the crowd dissapated toward Mel's. We even got to help them move some sound equipment around. Really made us feel like part of the crew!

It was just a great time. Highlights were Jane remembering Aggie ARG "you were the guys in the lab coats weren't you". Sean both recalling and pointing out to the other PMs that I was a contributor to the solve of the "faces" puzzle. And the whole group of them apologizing for the 41 prepositions!!! I agreed with them that the bottle caps was the top puzzle of the ARG. An amazing solve those of you who did it.

Met lots of others, including a charming Electrical Engineer from Folsom who was a solid beekeeper even though she said that she didn't post (unfortunately my name aphasia can only be overcome by reading at least 50 posts from a person so I lost her name in minutes!).

Mel's was great. So much energy, so much enthusiasm. The PM's were as friendly as I imagined and clearly were feeding off our energy then and before as much as we were deriving sustenance from them!

I could go on much longer, but hope you have the impression... I had a great time and wouldn't have missed it for anything.

Thanks Beekeepers!

Thanks PMs!
