Thinking about it now, seeing as words are being found, it could be one of those crossword things where whatever letters are remaining is the thing we need and its 8 letters?

I emailed Alexa with what we have so far and here's what she said:

Thank you for all of your hard work! I checked with Daphne, and it looks like we are supposed to find 8 words total in the seek and find, not 8 letters. And yes, this will be part of a series of clues that lead to solving a final, larger puzzle, which will eventually be posted on the main website.

Thanks again!

So I think we probably have what we need for now, assuming the eight words are:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dead
Sea
Scroll(s)
Manuscript(s)
Burial(s)
Museum
History
Archaeology

Just emailed her this:

Here's the words my fellow searchers and I found:

Dead
Sea
Scroll(s)
Manuscript(s)
Burial(s)
Museum
History
Archaeology

Are these what we're looking for? It seems to point to some involvement with the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Let's see what the response is!

Hi All! Cuz the PW protected posts just keep coming  and since I got lucky on the latest one "AUTHOR" thought I'd better share:
PW solve AUTHOR
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Seuss (case sensitive). The clue is actually the first letter of the titles of the 6 paintings above it ("What's on the menu?": aabbcc).

ETA: So maybe the AUTHOR clue solve relates to the intel, already known, that the Traveling Circus hackers pose "under assumed names"?

amandel: I'm not sure I understand the solve here?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
From my understanding the what's on the menu question is in reference to Dr. Seuss' famous book Green Eggs and Ham. The aabbcc that is gathered from the paintings is in reference to the rhyme scheme used in the book (i.e. Seuss uses rhyming couplets. Every two lines rhyme with each other.)
Hope that makes sense Very Happy

So Daphne has posted to let us know that there's a new page on The Searchers that is tracking our progress so far:

http://www.thesearchbegins.com/progress.html

There are some images on that page which are interesting and could warrant further investigation. Some thoughts:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. This seems to be directly related to the Dead Sea Scrolls.

2. Books on a shelf, possibly indicating a library -- this could potentially be to do with the San Diego University Library, which was renamed the Geisel Library in 1995 to honour Dr Seuss / Geisel.

3. Binary code. I'm not great at this stuff but the top line seems to convert
to the letter 'j', while the second and third line seem to convert to ASCII code: ª (the ordinal indicator symbol) and ® (the registered trademark symbol) respectively. Maybe the individual symbols are important or maybe it just spells out 'jar' (the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in jars). As I say, I'm not very good at this so it's entirely possible I've gone wrong somewhere!

4. I can't really make this out. It seems to be something to do with space but I'm having trouble seeing what the main object is. Is it a satellite or spacecraft of some sort?

5. An image of the Rosetta Stone. Dr Seuss co-wrote one book (Because a Little Bug Went Ka-Choo!!) under the pseudonym Rosetta Stone so we have a strong link there.

In all of that I'm aware I've made no connections with Auden so perhaps there's more to find. Another quick thing that could be related to the 'Traveling Circus' group -- Dr Seuss wrote a book called 'If I Ran the Circus'.

ETA: Something else I've just noticed that probably isn't important -- but just in case. On the home page of The Searchers, the logo for the site has the first 'e' in Searchers as a capital, like this: The SEarchers. Presumably that's deliberate but I'm not sure why.

If the satellite is the Voyager probe then you have this whole words, language, translation motif going on.

It's only just occurred to me to try reverse image search for the images on the progress page but it's thrown up some new information.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The library image seems to be specifically from Bodleian Library, which is apparently the main research library at the University of Oxford. That ties into the fact that both Auden and Seuss attended Oxford.

As the original Traveling Circus post specifies that we're trying to "develop personality profiles on the hackers so we can narrow down our search to the colleges were they are most likely to be enrolled" then I think Oxford has to be a good shout at this point.

The spacecraft in the fourth image is New Horizons, a probe launched in 2006 to study Pluto and its moons. It's due to reach Pluto in July 2015. I'm not sure of the significance yet but I'll read up more on it now.

Need help with odd puzzle

So I opted to be a Searcher, talked to Alexa and got my name in the Art section. Just now I got some weird crossword puzzle entitled "Five who Write". Oddly enough, I checked the roster and there are only two who are under the Art Catagory: me and another individual.

Anyways, here's the puzzle:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

E L J N L M C S G I C D W D A
W L Q H N M J P L O X U O L W
L O I D F L G N D J A U E G P
G R F O U A A I O L C P L V C
I R E X T M J J N T G E R U L
V A T O L K I E N E E F H X E

H B K M C G I L I E B F I P P
E V H L G F T N V E Q M J Q F
B W Q D X U T L K H Q W X M Z

I'm extremely stumped on how to proceed or even what to look for. Any one able to guide me in the right direction?

Probably authors; I found 'Tolkien' just now.

Also Alexa just sent me this:

pisode Two is coming soon, but before that I wanted to tell you a little more about my story and why I became a Searcher.

When I confronted my mom (the mom who adopted me, the only mom I've ever known) about my visions, she gave me the letter from my biological mother, the letter which led me to Daphne (a.k.a. Rainflower). She also told me a little bit more about the mysterious circumstances of my adoption.

In 1989, along with the rest of the country, my parents saw a shocking documentary about the state of Romanian orphanages: the extreme poverty and terrible living conditions of the orphans, who at that time were living behind the Iron Curtain. They vowed to do something about it, and in 1992, after the Soviet Union had fallen, they traveled to Romania to be aid workers and also to bring home a child from one of the orphanages.

After they adopted me and took me to a local hotel for a transition period and to await the documentation they needed to bring me to the United States, they were visited by a old Gypsy woman who brought them the letter from "P" (presumably my biological mother) and also told them the strange circumstances of my appearance at the orphanage.

One night, a year prior, I arrived at the orphanage the way most of the children there arrived: I was abandoned in the middle of the night. In fact, a total of three children were left at the orphanage that night. One was an infant boy who was left with a note and some money in his sleeper. He belonged to a family in the village who had too many children and could not take care of him. They hoped to return and take him back sometime in the future. The other two children consisted of me and another little girl who was a few years older. We looked alike and the older girl said we were sisters.

Here's the unusual part. We were well-fed and well-dressed and spoke perfect, unaccented, American English. Clearly, we were not Romanian. The women who worked there were shocked and didn't know what to do. They decided to take care of us until somebody came back to claim us. Why they didn't contact the American Embassy is beyond me, but it is what it is.

Once I learned all of this, I of course become completely determined to find out more about my sister and why I had been abandoned.

Now I am searching for members of the Traveling Circus, but I am also searching for my sister.

What are you searching for?

I'm not sure if that question is to me specifically or to the group in general; any idea what to respond?
