I'd still like to see the trio try their hand at acting again at some point in another serious work. Maybe something less horror and more grounded.

I would too, and I think they will. I think (and this is part of the point I was originally trying to make) is that getting a larger cast, along with being a sign of maturity and stability in their production company, is a way of taking a breather from it. Got the sense that at least Troy was rather at the risk of burnout with MH.

I'm hoping their comedy series is a comedy-suspense or comedy-sci-fi series. That would be a perfect fit for them.

No doubt about it, for those who haven't adjusted to Noah's arrival will have to live with it as there will likely be many more joining the team over the next few years. I mean when you look at THAC is kind of like Rooster Teeth in what it delivers in media, obviously not as big but it makes sense when you think about it. RT had Red vs Blue which was an online webseries which launched them into popularity as Marble Hornets launched THAC into popularity.

Hopefully they can build a reperatory cast and crew beyond their friends and girlfriends. I think they've got a good future ahead of them. Especially if THAC Studios really does take off.

EDIT: I really don't doubt that it will in the longer run, but I'm also sure they didn't expect to have that Kickstarter magic of reaching their goal and then having like two stretch goals met within twenty-four hours repeated. I think fans will need to see more than "Troy Needs Another Shave" before something like that happens. Gonna need to see more of a teaser for the next series, I should think.

This casting thing would make it appear that way, until they start making some serious money or find another soul like Noah who's nearby and work almost for free I doubt the crew will grow for a while.
I hope the actors work out though, if this series last anywhere as long as MH they'll need to stick around for a while. That being said they said they'd learned from their mistakes and have a backburner of shot footage ready. So we might get a more structured schedule than before. But that's hoping.
But I completely agree, I doubt the Patreon will meet all it's goals, it's not that long after the Kickstarter and one of the reasons that it got so money was because it was a one time thing and was the series finale. The Patreon is asking for each goal EVERY MONTH, I'm not saying THAC aren't worth those goals but the fandom is still quite young, they'll need a bigger following to simply meet the existing reached goals every month, never mind the higher ones.

I think they'll make it eventually, Cyan507. A good follow-up to MH (which despite all the points raised by negative critics is a pretty damn strong debut overall) will help 'em over. I don't know Patreon, really--is this timed as is Kickstarter, or can they keep this open indefinitely? And is it all-or-nothing, or is it like GoFundMe? If it's kept open, then, yeah, I think they'll get to ten grand a month easily, though it won't be in the immediate future.

As for actors... for right now, many will likely still be doing the series for resume builder and clips. The money will probably be sunk mostly into production, at least at the start. Which is totally fine, as they need to show they can do a solid series with resources. (And they can, no doubt.)

I honestly have no idea how Patreon works, you may very well be correct, only time will tell.

Yeah, I don't doubt what they can do with funding, given MH had virtually none. It's just annoying not having anything more to go on than a tweet and a short teaser. Everything Troy makes is usually very stylised and this doesn't look like any exception. From what Vinny said, THAC said they were casting and could still be in the process of doing so. Meaning we could still be a long way off from the start of the new series. April 4th is less than a month away but if they're still an pre-production then we might be waiting a bit longer. I still think we should get a pilot or more in-depth teaser by then, if not for us but for potential investors or sponsors who could really bump that Patreon.

I think you're right.

The Patreon YouTube video even said that Patreon donors will "be supporting [the new series] as well," but my guess is they have footage and at least a pilot entry "in the can." The "casting" could be for smaller roles or even larger roles that are later in the series. Maybe they've started thinking about the comedy series too? Seemed a long while back that they had both in the works just in case the Kickstarter went well. (No, I don't remember where I heard this, but it was one of the earlier posdcasts that gave me this impression.)

I wasn't a fan of the Patreon video or of a Patreon in general and the fact that they brought the series into it didn't help. But since the series is technically fully funded (according to the Kickstarter as of June 1) there's no reason why the pace of the series should be slowed or delayed. I was willing to wait a year or so given how ambitious the project was going to be but if they have people like Noah and getting lots of work done then we should be seeing it sooner than I thought.

Btw remember when we discussed the idea of the series being about a small tv station broadcasting on an analog system? With the teaser being made from someone trying to dial into the signal? Look what the placeholder image is for the new series funding on the Kickstarter:

yup, an old fashioned analog television, complete with rabbit ears. I don't know how that slipped by me, I feel so dumb.

Oh, I think we all overlooked that backdoor slider from Troy. (EDIT: And, Jesus, that looks so much like the old RCA Victor onto which we had to attach a splitter and a flex capacitor for to watch cable and play NES games.)

You're likely right--I was going by what was stated in the Patreon video about how those who contribute will "be supporting the new series as well." But what they likely meant was not "we pissed away the Kickstarter money" but rather (far, far, far likelier) "we have the new series funded thanks to the Kickstarter money, but a steady income stream, however small, will be a good thing."

I don't mind the Patreon--I like their product, so if I can kick in something per month I will.

Yeah, having the series theoretically funded and more money speeding up the process aren't mutually exclusive. Troy has like, a daughter.

I want one of those now, I'm after starting a collection of outdated tech and I must have an old tv set!

Well yeah, I hope the Patreon money helps out with the sketches and any development they can do to THAC, as you need to spend money to make it. I'm sure hosting the official website and owning the domain buttmemes.com has it's expenses (though I'm sure Kanye West has more than enough to own loser.com, seriously check it) I do believe they should be paid as well for what they produce, as the monetization on Youtube can be fickle.

I'd love to donate to the Patreon, and I just might once I start at my job, but a monthly basis thing is out of the question for me. I drained quite a bit of my emergency fund just to get in on the kickstarter and while it was totally worth it, I probably won't be able to support them until I get a stable income myself.

I honestly wish I could send it to you, but it weighs a half-fuckton. More than thirty years old and a durable sumbitch, too--I almost dropped it on my foot and still was able to get it going to play Legend of Zelda, a full regular season of Tecmo Super Bowl, and several games of Bases Loaded before watching a classic Saturday Night Live marathon on Nick at Nite. God, I wasted my early adolescence.

I could imagine, the deeper into the abyss of old tech you go the less optimal the size becomes Razz I would say I'd be more worried about your foot if you dropped it rather than the state of the tv set but in all honestly I'd be more worried about the building. I'd love to try my hand at the title of wasted adolescence but it belongs not in this thread Sad so for the sake of staying on topic I'm going to say I'm excited about the series.

I had a Skype session with them. The new series will take place in the same MH universe. But they will be casting for the characters that will be in it. So Joseph, Troy, and Tim won't play any characters in the series.

Oh, awesome and interesting! I have been wondering to myself the same as the OP regarding how they might appear in the series and have it be in the same universe and have that not ruin it.... now that I've read the thread and thought about it a bit, surely they would be able to afford some decent casting. Also, they went to film school, and as successful alums, they might be able to cast promising young actors/actresses who would jump at the chance to work with them.

That said, if it is in the same universe, and being uploaded on the same channel... it is plausible that the person uploading the new videos has seen the entirety of Marble Hornets as we, the viewer, knows it. That could in fact be what inspired the new protagonist to hack the channel and start uploading new content.

Can you imagine the first season finale of the new series, our new protagonist travels to Rosswood to try and follow up on something from Marble Hornets.... and finds Tim?! It isn't outside the realm of possibilities, bringing in Tim at a much later time and blow everyone's minds. The tragedy continues for him, as always, trying to keep a steady job and some nut with a camera tracks him down and chases him down the street screaming his name.

Hey by the way Vinny, through the Kickstarter thing, didn't you get to go to where they live and hang out with them for a day or something? Did that ever happen? I was so excited for you at the time!

I also had this impression. I daresay it was almost obvious if you followed his blogging/podcasting OOG toward the end. He really literally didn't even wanna talk about Marble Hornets; you could almost hear him rolling his eyes during the BNWYDSE podcast when the topic even came up at all. It makes sense... at the time he had a pregnant girlfriend (wife?) and a lot of other real life shit going on and people still were just dying to ask him at all times about like... Hoody, lol. Poor guy. I think the success of the kickstarter, the successful conclusion of Marble Hornets and the fun they've had on the THAC channel has been a healing time for him, and he's ready to make some fucked up codes and videos again.

... Really? It was called an RCA Victor? Oh man, the creator of Slenderman is known as Victor Surge. That is an insane coincidence...

More insane coincidences. Knowing Troy... too many coincidences are not really coincidences at all!

Having MH become so much bigger than he'd expected and sorta getting trapped by it, too--that's gotta be hell for an artist. I never really believed Troy when he said he didn't want to do sci fi/suspense, etc., again, but he sure as hell probably wanted some distance. With a wildly successful Kickstarter and actors, he'll be getting it.

"Victor" was Thomas Edison's dog, whom he recorded in his early experiments with vocal recording. The standard sets were named after him.
