Hi all!

Newbie here, so this might be nothing but hopefully you don't mind if I try and muck in.
I tried putting the binary on the End-to-End clue section into a binary translator, and then backwards and I got 5UWuUV which I thought was probably meaningless, but I googled it anyway and it led me to this site:

http://wheniwasjung.com/about/
Quote:
whenIwasJung is a site dedicated to enabling the exploration of associations between people, places, things, concepts, feelings and ideas you have made through your life experiences. it does so by continually encouraging you to associate one word with another, and then displaying the respective associations made by people from all around the world. as you delve further and further into the process of tracing the network of connections you have spent your life building, truths both small and large will start to reveal themselves to you. be sure to pause every now and then to reflect on the associations that other people just like you have made here at whenIwasJung. have fun.
- I just thought it was interesting, considering the word association.

Also (throwback to an earlier discussion in the thread) perhaps 'SEarchers' links to 'Search Expertise' which Daphne mentions in the Ring Leader post on 28th Feb.

I only just emailed Alexa so hopefully there's still room for me in this Search!

At 12:30 AM GMT last morning I recieved an email from Alexa. Not sure if anyone else got it (although I assume some of you have.)

Alexa's email wrote:

Mirrors

As you know, I have a sister from whom I was separated when we were both small children and adopted from a Romanian orphanage. Our actual origin is currently unknown, and one of the mysteries I've been trying to uncover.

However, I have always had a sense that there was someone missing from my life. I suppose all children have imaginary friends, and I was no different. I dreamed of a girl who looked like me, but was taller and older. For most of my life, these seemed like simple, straightforward dreams and I always thought they were symbolic of my adoption itself, my knowledge that some part of me was missing, hidden, uncovered.

But recently, since I started having visions in my waking hours, the dreams have become stronger and even more vivid. And every time I dream of her, I am dreaming of a reflection. I see her in mirrors, in windows, in water. I see her when I should be seeing my own reflection, but it's not me, although there are similarities.

My most recent dream is more mysterious than ever. In my dream, this reflection, presumably either my sister or some version of me, leads me into a cave. I follow her through a winding, twisting labyrinth until it's too dark to see my hand in front of my face. And yet, strangely, I can still see her. I follow her confidently, more sure-footed than I would be in real life, and eventually she stops and hands me a clay jar. I open it and reach inside, but before I can pull out what is there, the jar becomes a book, a book so heavy that I can no longer hold it. And then I wake.

I want to thank all of you who have joined me. I will continue to tell you my story until I can no longer tell it.

-Alexa

As you continue to work through challenges, I wanted to give you a more personal challenge, one directed toward your chosen area of search expertise.

I want you to find one location in space or time that is relevant to your chosen topic. This can be moment in history or a location on a map. Send it to me via email (streeturchinrainflowerSPLATgmail.com) once you have it.

In return you will receive a clue to a page containing more data about The Traveling Circus.

So everyone one mail or all art guys or all music guys one mail together?

i say send a few emails by topic. any other music people?

nice find!

after we sent the list of nouns i started thinking about what nouns are: people, places, or things. after seeing this website, i decided to sort the words using the terms in bold above.

people
American
Alexander Pope
saxophonist

places
Mowtown
factory
suburb
omnipresent
ubiquitous
Link (West Virginia)

things
Much Ado About Nothing
Handbook
clues
press
triangles
adaptation (as in a movie that's been adapted from a novel)
reclassified

concepts
Magna Carta
mistaken identity
scientific
time

feelings
Heroic*
variable
largest

ideas
publishing
known

because it's pretty subjective, as Daphne noted, i'm going to send this and see what she thinks.

*also, even though the word is Heroic i thought i'd mention that Hero is a primary character in Much Ado About Nothing, which might partially explain the capitalization of the word.

update: reply from Daphne was positive, we have now completed 2/3 sorting methods!

Good work everyone! I sent Daphne a specific moment in history related to my subject (Film) and got the following reply:

Thank you for your origin story! Very interesting. You've proven that you can find information about your area of expertise.

Your first clue to the new web page is:

documents

The email that I got back from Daphne:

Thank you for your origin story! Very interesting. You've proven that you can find information about your area of expertise.

Your first clue to the new web page is:

directory

so looks like a similar theme to Billy Brown's clue.

So I guess we are indeed looking for a new subdirectory of Alexa's site as suspected ('lesser location' could be a literal clue for 'sub' & 'directory'). I've tried www.thesearchbegins.com/documents.html but no luck.

Welcome! The more the merrier, especially when they have such spectacular user names. (I *hate* Sebastian Coe!)

My clue was "stored data".

So far I've tried looking for cookies, looking at the source code, looking at the wheniwasjung page another user posted (nice spot), and a few other things I've forgotten.

I've not had any luck getting any further with finding the new page. We have six shared clues so far but there are now 19 people on the roster -- does anyone else have a clue from Daphne they're able to share?

I think I'll return to the word groups as we still need to find the third combination, although I'm not really sure where to start there.

Okay, I think I might have a small breakthrough with the word categories. The next image on the Progress page of Alexa's site is the New Horizons probe, which was launched with a view to studying Pluto.

Pluto, formerly recognised as a planet, was reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006. Put another way, it was previously suffering from mistaken identity. Arguments about the classification of Pluto had raged on for years before this with threats of reclassification often being called Much Ado About Nothing -- example:

http://www.lpi.usra.edu/publications/newsletters/lpib/lpib86/nspace86.pdf

So if we take Pluto as one possible category, I think it would be fair to put the following words under it:

reclassified
mistaken identity
Much Ado About Nothing
scientific

Those are the only obvious ones to me at the moment so maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but the link to the image on the Progress page makes me think this must be relevant. What do you think?

ETA: Maybe press and publishing could also fit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluto_Press

That's great, I think you've solved it. There's more than those words there, in that article alone the following words pop up:

reclassified
mistaken identity
Much Ado About Nothing
scientific
Alexander Pope
American
Press
Largest
(time?)
known
