New update on Daphne's site gives a further summary of the clues so far and helped lead me to this:

From the new URL:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Searcher Files:

...Traveling Circus Member #1: Current alias is "Molly" but last name, real name, and other aliases are unknown.

Location: Currently a student at a location in the United States housing fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Current info: Has been accepted to an international exchange program.

Additional information pending...

According to Wikipedia:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There are 3 universities in the U.S. housing Dead Sea Scrolls:
Azusa Pacific University (5 fragments), University of Chicago (1 fragment) and Southwestern Baptist University (8 fragments).

I have a feeling I know where our travelling circus member is studying.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Based on that info I think that this student is most likely studying at Azusa Pacific. This is because it can't be Chicago (as the university houses "fragments" - plural).

The second piece of information I used was when it was mentioned there is an exchange program. Since we have found the link of Oxford I looked at both of the two universities and the one that has the biggest exchange program to Oxford is Azusa (with southwestern even listing azusa's course as a potential way for its students to get to Oxford on its website.)

Will email Daphne and see what she thinks.

EDIT: Got a reply

Great work!

The first identified member of the Traveling Circus is named Molly (an alias) and is currently a student as Azusa Pacific. The Searchers have made great progress in their training. Congratulations!

We are currently compiling more information on how to contact Molly and the other members of the Traveling Circus. We should have more data to add to the Files soon.

Thanks again for your hard work.

-Daphne

Excellent work everyone! I still haven't heard anything back from Daphne on the word categorisation puzzle but will report back if/when I do. In the meantime I guess we keep an eye on the files subdomain for any updates.

New email from Alexa about Molly:

Quote:

Religious Studies Professor

Hi Everyone!

So I'm writing to tell you about an interesting encounter I had recently with one of my religious studies professors. When Daphne told me that they think a member of the Traveling Circus, a girl named Molly, attends Azusa Pacific in California, I suddenly remembered that I had a professor who used to talk about how it was her alma mater and she used to love to go hiking in the nearby mountains. Even though it's a private religious college, it's still pretty big (about 10,000 students), and I'm assuming she is longer in contact with the people there. However, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask her about it, to feel her out.

Well.

It turns out that her niece, a girl named Jenny, is a student there. Her major? Art. But then my professor (I'm going to keep her name private just now) told me an interesting piece of gossip. I guess Jenny's roommate is a computer science major named Margaret who just got offered a lucrative job with a start-up in Silicon Valley. The name of that start-up? Dusan Digital.

That's not all. Her niece is going to be an exchange student in the fall. At Oxford.

I have no idea what to do next. I've contacted Daphne about all this and am waiting for a reply.

Meanwhile, I had another vision. More of a dream, really, since I was sleeping. The woman who I've always seen in my dreams and visions, the one who I think might be my sister, was with me and we were swimming in the ocean. We kept swimming and swimming, out of sight of the shore, but we never got tired. Eventually we started swimming underwater. Like all of my visions, this felt entirely real and not at all like a dream. After we swam underwater for awhile I realized that we could breathe underwater. After a time it got very dark, and we started swimming past glowing orbs that I realized were stars and planets. I woke up cold and out of breath, as if I had just surfaced from being underwater.

More soon.

Okay, I've had a couple of emails back and forth with Daphne after my guess with the words aligned with Pluto / Uranus / Jupiter. She's given us a helpful hint to hopefully give us a kickstart with this:

Yes, Uranus and Jupiter are incorrect. You did a great job finding the Pluto category. The other category is one which you have already solved (Oxford), and the third is another location.

I tried "Detroit" as third category..

That ones would fit:

factory, Motown, publishing, suburb, saxophonist, American, scientific (more or less Wink)

Got mail:

You are on the right track with Detroit, but one word you seem to be overlooking is "suburb" Smile

I'm going to take a punt and say our final location is the British Museum. The final image is the Rosetta Stone, and that is where it resides.

Hello All and @katbee: Many props on your bril (files) clue deduction!

After guessing 'Battle Creek, Michigan' as the 3rd category (due to the Kellogg College - Oxford University connex) Daphne in an email wrote:
You are on the right track, as the next location is indeed in Michigan, and it is not Detroit, but you are not quite at the right point on the map.

Why are we tracking the TTC hackers? That's largely Ing's decision. He has his reasons. However, you will come to discover that while some people the Searchers track are over-achievers, others can come from the dregs of society (as some of them prefer to remain hidden).

New update

Quote:

End to End (Searcher training update)
March 26, 2015

I'm writing this post to update the Searchers on their training progress, and to clarify the information on the Progress page, which can be found here:

http://www.thesearchbegins.com/progress.html

You are currently working on column three: End to End. Ultimately, column three will result in a series of clues leading to the Encryption Key. This will be the culmination of the first stage of your training and will allow you communicate directly with Ing. At that point you will be assigned search missions directly related to your expert areas, and you will report your findings to Ing.

At this time you are not working on or receiving information related to the last two columns. That will come later.

Meanwhile, there are two more events taking place in the next few days. I am going to be posting another challenge on this blog, which will result in more clues for the End to End column.

Also, Alexa will be traveling to California with meet with her professor's niece, in the guise of being interested in the art program, but with the hopes of talking to the roommate, Margaret, to see if she might know anything about either Molly or the Traveling Circus. Alexa will email you with updates and be posting to Twitter as well.

Thanks again to everyone for all of your hard work!

Nice work with the Michigan-related guesses fernandocarulli and amandel!

Could it be Ann Arbor, continuing the University/College theme? Or maybe Flint (for the factory/General Motors link)?

ETA: Apparently Ann Arbor played host to a Magna Carta exhibit last October to celebrate its 800th anniversary.

I just saw your post (good work!), but I had been looking into the Ann Arbor possibility as well. Looks like the best option so far IMO; it has the university and museum links, and also a publishing company called Ardis Publishing - they published and continue to publish works and translated works from Russia and the Soviet Union (part of Romania was incorporated into the Soviet Union). So that may be something!

Continuing with the vampire theme (sorry if I'm stepping on your toes, vampire searchers!):
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Kostova
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Historian

She finished the book while studying for her masters at UoM in Ann Arbor. The book is about Dracula and much of it is set in Eastern Europe including Romania. The wiki mentions that, for the book, she did lots of research on Vlad the Impaler, a Romanian folk hero, ruler of Wallachia which is now part of Romania, and inspiration for the most famous vampire of all. Interesting!
