If that's true than who burned down Jay's house? I thought Alex doing it to Tim implied that Alex did it to Jay too.

Again, this is just a theory. I don't know. But it is possible that the Operator did it. Or perhaps masky/hoodie. Or maybe it was Alex. But if Alex was the killer back then, what was the significance of the Operator being summoned by his camera?

I haven't watched the entire series all the way through in a rather long time, but I believe this was never solved.

However, about Alex being a killer in 2006, when the in-series MH movie was shut down, he had to have been, because he got rid of as many cast members as he could; he had just thought that Brian and maybe Jay had been killed and Slendynapped forever.

One thing I'd always wondered is whether Alex really killed Amy in 2010, as Entry #26 shows, or whether he changed the timestamp to make it seem as if she had been attacked by TO in their apartment on that date and at that time. He was a film student, so that shouldn't have been beyond him, I assume (just as I'm sure the "HELP!" wasn't projected on the tape but was added by him). As part of the theme of Alex trying to make himself look like more of a victim than he actually was, it wouldn't be implausible.

It's implausible because Jessica's existence in the seven months is so consistent with Amy disappearing right around that time.

Jay's house burns down in Entry #25. It was never "solved" that Alex did it, but to me it's common sense. Like in a to me that's clearly what THAC was trying to imply with 85 kind of way. Like, THAC's not stupid, they get that people would infer that, it's probably part of the point.

The Operator returns in 26, the next entry. So to me this just supports the theory. Like maybe Alex started filming again after it happened or right before it did, hence the camera. The very fact honestly that it appears in Amy's home the entry after Jay's house burn down seems suggestive to me though. And honestly, I'm suspicious of the camera thing being meaningful anyway. Alex could have staged the whole encounter if he decided Amy needed to go.

Yeah, you're right--totally forgot about that point about Jessica.

I agree that it's likely that Alex burned down Jay's home, but it just was never clearly demonstrated.

Jay's house was burned down by Totheark. Who convinced Jay to leave his house? Totheark. Who knew that Jay would search for Alex more actively if he was on the move? Totheark. Who wouldn't go on the move because he had a house? Jay. Logically, it follows that Totheark burned down Jay's house knowing that it would help Jay lead Totheark to Alex.

It could be that Alex had the camera in the house the whole time and simply kept it hidden, not wanting to be reminded of his past and losing everyone he held dear. Or maybe he knew the camera was bad but wasn't sure why. Plus, I think the fact that Alex' camera freezes as he looks at the Operator supports the idea that the Operator did something to him at that moment.

I don't buy it. It's too complicated. Burning down homes is a tactic employed by a character who wants Jay dead. Alex doing it makes more sense, not just from an overly objective purely evidence based perspective (but that too), but also from a narrative perspective. In other words, the creators know we would think this probably given what they did.

Alex tried to burn Tim's house down, I think it's pretty safe to say, looking back, that it was Alex who burned Jay's apartment. Remember that one time in Alex's apartment when Jay was looking around in the desk and there was a lighter in there, even though Alex didn't visibly smoke anything? I mean he could've used it to light scented candles, but he also probably used it to burn tapes and such. I just feel they wouldn't have had a lighter in a shot unless it was purposeful, and I think it was implied that if you were under the Operator's influence, you took a likin' to burnin' things.

It makes even more sense if we remember that, at the time Entry #25 was out, general consensus was that Slender Man is strongly connected to fire (and somewhat afraid of water, hence totheark water motifs). Trosephim was aware of it too. One of the most popular theories suggested that the Operator burned down Jay's apartment himself. Now we know that the Operator messes with people's minds and makes them do things (attack people with rocks, knives and paper , for example), so it's almost obvious that with the lighter in Alex's desk Trosephim implied that he (as "proxy") did all the burning. Tapes, houses. Must had been hard for him to survive in such heavily wooded area with his pyromania.

Interesting version of the iteration theory. A few holes, but overall at the very least fascinating to consider. If Alex survived the first iteration (that we have tapes from) and became the killer in the second iteration, and you are proposing that Tim becomes the new killer in the new iteration due to his survival this time, who do you suggest was the killer in the first iteration that Alex survived?

Frankly, looking at the first season this way has the potential to really blow your mind, considering the stark differences in Alex's demeanor from one tape to the next, and his bizarre list of people who are "gone" who later simply are not. Also, this would explain how the original story Jay gave us for how he acquired the tapes from Alex does not match the tape we later get (#70? #71? Not sure which Entry off the top of my head) which shows Jay getting the tapes from Alex... and then Alex savagely attacking him. Also, Jay always never remembering the events on the tapes even when he was clearly present. Actually just in general all of the memory loss is explained away by iteration theory. So all in all, interesting theory my friend!

EDIT: Oh, and of course the age old question, who filmed Exit? Perhaps the killer from that first iteration, stalking Jay and Alex into the woods... it could be Seth, since he had camera equipment available to him due to the role he played in the production of Marble Hornets IG, and of course that has been posited before... but the iteration theory posed in this thread gives him a motive to be stalking the other cast members, which he previously lacked. Fascinating!

Not at all ready to buy into any iteration theory, but I'd always thought Seth had filmed Exit. He had the access to the equipment and the tapes, and he was the other member of the crew most likely to see a rather tall businessman trailing the shoot and plaguing the footage, and put things together from there.

I always made the same assumption, I merely wanted to point out that if this theory were true, it would give Seth a clear motivation to be there filming, which has always been the most iffy part of identifying the cameraman. =]
