worked. I think it was true to the source material and I think any other ending would have probably been dissapointing. But it was also a pretty generic ending, and knowing it was going to happen I think was necessary to offset that aspect of it.

It's not the outcome I was disappointed with, it's the way it was conveyed in the film.

Yeah I know, that's like, what I said. I think knowing the ending was necessary for me to really accept it, because it WAS a really predictable ending, but I still like that it ended that way, so just telling us ahead of time even things out for me. I don't agree that that strategy was "ridiculously stupid."

I dunno, now that I've had some time to sit on it, it's kinda disappointing. If it had come out in theaters it'd at least have the benefit of giving all these tropes some exposure, and I like the MH tropes that were used, and I think as a movie it was very decent.

But since it only came out online, and there's really no extra exposure, it's just kind of the more generic and kinda stupid version of Marble Hornets. Like I say, I appreciate that it lends some consistency to the larger Operator mythos, but as a piece of entertainment I'm stuck just asking what the point of it all was.

If this was just some random Slender Man movie online I'd think it was pretty well done, and if it was in theaters I'd actually be glad it was such a replication of the source material's tropes. But as some extra piece of Marble Hornets it's pretty useless.

I don't think it ruins the larger universe though. I'm like, comfortable thinking of this as canon, which is good.

Let's say this had been the only sort of Slender/Operator inspired film to actually get made and receive mass exposure - d you think your initial reaction to the film would have been any different? The only reason I ask is because I think we might have gotten use to the mediocrity of other films inspired by this mythos, so much so that when something of a much higher caliber comes along we can only give up so much enthusiasm for something we've seen done so many times before.

Agreed. Thinking of this as a prequel/side-story keeps it from really messing with the story and atmosphere of the main series.

I don't take the other "movies" seriously. Windingo made me wanna die. This was much better than those. But honestly, none of them are getting "mass exposure". Marble Hornets in its largest still visible cultural context is still an astriks on the fact that it inspired the Slender game. This movie isn't even on the radar at that level.

I thought this would be in theaters. If it was I would have seen a bigger point (I.E. Same tropes executed with a bigger budget decently well but presented to a much larger audience). My problem is it didn't get mass exposure, so I sorta feel like as it stands it just serves as the same story but not as good.

I saw the film. It was ok.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The ending was decent i just thought it was dumb how Milo came to life by oppy somehow and killed them. like, what?

Did anyone see any other easter eggs besides the alex kralie missing person poster?

I saw references to MH like when he sees the symbol on the stone after brushing away leaves.

But wow, they overdid it with the symbol.

Yeah, the symbols stopped being scary after the first five and got comical after ten. I stopped counting shortly after that.

I'm joining the disappointment bandwagon. Not really anyone's fault I just don't think the idea works as a movie. Half the fun of Marble Hornets was analyzing clues and using them to anticipate the next entry. The asylum guy made me laugh though. Did you see the awesome movie that wasn't there?.....of course not it wasn't there.

Creepy asylum guy with Star Wars reference on the intercom was disappointing.

Pacing was strange, a lot spent on the buildup and then once they get to the cabin in the woods (ha, yeah, best place to go in this scenario) the movie's over.

Acting was good from the principles. The actual setup is pretty good too.

I'm struggling to understand how they had to travel through Alabama to get to Colorado.

"I think it... Operates on some kind of pattern." Troy and Joseph wish they had this kind of sheer screenwriting talent.

I thought, based on the beginning, that we might get some ToTheArk stuff from Milo, but was disappointed.

I also thought, once they found the second house, that all the security cameras might mean we'd get some 23-24 stuff, with teleporting doors and time travel and stuff like that, but nothing fun happened.

The Alex poster was great.

I knew the moment the camera man's name was "Milo" that things were going to go wrong. That's a joke, I actually found the movie to be pretty alright overall, and certainly better than the first seven Tribe Twelve submissions, but still, I found it to be amusing.

1) They started in Alabama.
2) He DEFINITELY does not say "...OPERATE". Like most of your comments are totally valid and I agree with them, and even though I disagree with this it's still pretty funny. But regardless, that is just not true.

I finally watched this. It was decent and might make a good introduction or entry point to people unfamiliar with the mythos, especially with all the recreated shots from the entries, but I felt it was missing a lot of the mystery and the feeling of isolation that the series had. Doug Jones was kind of wasted on this, since he barely got to move. It's a shame, but the stabbings were probably what prevented this from getting more publicity and a wider release.

Actually it is true. They said it around 48 minutes in when they were looking at the last tape from the house.

No I know he says "operates under some kind of pattern," but he definitely doesn't pause, put emphasis on the word operate, pause again, and then start talking again. That's too dumb for me not to have remembered it that way.
