Poking about I suspect that marblehornets.com was originally a gamejack, and THAC have managed to get control of the site and are putting this stuff up on it in part to provide a point of entry for people new to Marble Hornets, in part to set up some context for someone else (perhaps D. Scott) taking over the YouTube channel.

One thing that I found very strange was how it was all written in third person, but then when it says Alex's likes it says my dog rocky, so is there going to be some subtle hint that they're part of the same universe with that little reference?

Also, would a Dr Warren (the cinematography lecturer) be familiar? What significance could the character of Celia in the play "As You Like It" be? They're not going to specifically mention things like that for no reason, even if that reason does turn out to be a red herring.

With the curly bracket things on the different page ( /therearefootsteps ) , the fact that they're all open leads me to believe that maybe there's another page where whey close? Would someone be able to write a program where it goes through all the site extensions that are, say, within 20 characters long and then just spits out the extensions that don't lead to that error page?

I'm not sure about the rest of the stuff, but As You Like It happens to be one of my favorite of the Shakespearean comedies.

If you've never read or seen it, it's the play about a woman (Rosalind) who dresses up as a man in order to disguise her identity from Duke Frederick, who had usurped his brother's place and exiled him. Rosalind falls in love with a man, Orlando, who had actually fallen in love with Rosalind before she was disguised as a man. Shakespearean madcap adventure ensues. It's basically a shining example of dramatic irony, as the audience knows Ganymede is Rosalind, but Orlando doesn't.

It was the basis for Amanda Bynes's terrible "She's the Man," if you were wondering.

In the play, Celia is Rosalind's cousin. She basically serves as an audience surrogate throughout most of the play, reminding the reader and the viewer that Ganymede is Rosalind. In fact, she is such a side character that, despite being present for a large portion of the scenes, she goes for extremely long stretches without speaking (at one point, over two hundred lines pass while she is onstage without any lines or stage directions). Her entire plot for nearly all of the play is based on her helping Rosalind, without any action on her own. It's not until the play is almost over, when she develops a love story of her own (with a side villain), that she has any personal involvement in the plot.

I think that listing Sarah as Celia is an out-of-game joke by THAC. She has a lot of stage time, but really no effect on the story, except in her relation to other characters.

If this is the case, my respect for THAC just kicked up a notch or two.

I am seriously only thinking of this as Marble Hornets: Season 4 so far.

Hmm. I messed around with Alex's photo on the cast page, and I'm almost certain that there is some type of message in it. I tried screwing around in Photoshop with it, but my skills are rudimentary (I use it for book covers and pulling images from .PDFs easily). One of you young whippersnappers will probably have better luck with it.

I noticed two areas that seem to have something fishy going on: the bottom-left corner, and to the right of Alex's head, about halfway between him and the right frame. It looks almost like they're smudged against the background.

I can almost make the letters out, but my eyes aren't what they used to be.

I can say with relative confidence that it isn't a stereogram; that much I know how to solve in Photoshop (New Layer-->Copy/Paste All-->Blend Difference-->Shift Right/Left) and didn't see anything.

If the photo is left over from when the page was originally posted, though, I doubt it'll be anything important. If it's new, then it could be that the next page extension phrase or word is hidden in the photo, which would be pretty cool.

Also, wassupbro: I'm awake by five Eastern every day (which is four o'clock Alabama time), so I'll start checking the site when I get up.

Well, I just realized I don't even have photoshop on this computer, so I guess I can't be of any help.

so it's not digital steganography? That was my first guess.

The page looks busy now, the significance of April 4th is still there it seems. I'm almost 100% certain Alex has written the bios for this page and DScott may be retrospectively salvaging it to piece together what happened between Summer 2006 and 2014 as an outsider. Strange how the site has been signed by Alex Kralie, unless there's another A.K. out there.

The "Website coming soon -AK " thing is from what the site looked like before D. Scott took control and the "pending investigation" appeared. Prior to that, the website was just the home page as it is now without the "pending investigation" message, except the link to the cast and crew bios didn't actually work.

In other words, AK is Alex Kralie from way back. That part of the site is meant to be from back in 2006.

I don't think there are actual separate files embedded in the image anywhere-- I tried the basic methods around it (attempted editing file extensions to get it to open with WINRAR and a couple of other tricks), and the file size is too small (267 KB) to hide too much. That said, it is possible to hide information within individual pixels in an image file and keep the file size increase to a minimum, but it would still be measurable and significant. The size seems close enough that I doubt there's anything hidden in it that way.

I think that the image was just manipulated to mask the message in the background. Sort of like writing with your finger on a window, you dig? According to the file's metadata (I believe it was linked somewhere earlier in this thread, but I ran it here anyway), the image WAS originally a .JPEG , and that it was converted to .PNG on 4/11, with who knows what other alterations.

I'm pretty sure there's something we're supposed to see here, but I'm getting frustrated (which reminds me of a few years back trying to solve ToTheArk's codes). Maybe someone else will have better luck than I've had.

Also, as a side note, there's a pretty big and noticeable brown square just chillin' on Alex's neck. I thought it was a mole at first, but when I zoomed in it looked like a .JPEG artifact. Probably insignificant, but if nothing else it demonstrates Alex's total incompetence when it comes to all things film and visual.

It just struck me that the 3872 could be a date? 3/8/72? Post code anywhere?

The plane had arrived seven hours earlier from New York. The plotters had warned TWA about bombs on four separate flights, and had demanded a $2,000,000 ransom.

Of course Brian majored in psychology and then proceeds to become insane. Minoring in video production sure helped him in creating totheark videos.

What are you talking about...I'm pointing out the humor in the descriptions. Brian was hoody, hoody was crazy, Brian majored in psychology.

You don't see the irony?
