[META] In a long past ARG, I took the road not traveled and chose to befriend the "enemy." The PM of that one was a bit unprepared for that LOL. Made it interesting, but it wasn't the way the story was supposed to go. At least if we must choose a side here, we know it's intended

And I checked in on Callum, on FB, to see if he was okay - He's been quite quiet. His reply has a secret message

The upper right corner has the astronomical symbol for the sun, also missing the lower right corner. The text in the back of the Sun's image is Shakespeare's Sonnet 33. That unreadable text in the Mars image from way back when was Shakespeare's Sonnet 55. Adding the two points us to Sonnet 88. As Shad0 pointed out on /astronomer, 88 is the number of constellations. 88 can also be significant in that 8 symbolizes infinity and double 8's can even symbolize the union between two humans. The sonnet itself is worth a read, as it probably sheds more light on what happened between Callum and Lucy. And finally, today (April 23) is William Shakespeare's 451st birthday.


I've emailed Lucy, so waiting to hear back. Only thing I'm missing is the significance of the missing corners.

So, time to be patient over the weekend for the active players and any new players have time to get caught up

So thinking on what we have here, Thomas Digges was the one who didn't get a medal, he expanded on the works of Copernicus in proving that the stars moved, were not fixed in space, and neither was the earth. He and his father developed telescopes, both reflecting & refracting. Thomas also did work on mathematics and military ballistics. The word "integer" used to describe whole numbers was first coined by Digges. Digges also investigated a "New Star" in 1572 - which was actually a super nova that was visible in the night sky. All of this occurred during a time when astronomy and astrology were the same science.

So I only had a partial solve. Our emails so far:

So I guess I'm in charge of putting all the pieces together. No pressure, right? So excuse me while I now ramble on about the sun...

1. Lucinda means "illumination" which is not unlike the sun.

2. Thomas Digges was the first to expand upon the Copernican heliocentric model of the Universe in that he suggested that the universe is infinite and contains infinitely mainly stars (as opposed to the stars and planets being fixed). Shakespeare borrowed some of his ideas in writing Hamlet.

3. The bityl links to a Wired article on Geocentric vs Heliocentric models of the universe. The take away: we know that the planets orbit the sun (and not the other way around) because 1.) the planets have phases dependent on their movement (again, not fixed), 2.) moons orbit their respective planets and not just the Earth, and 3.) planets will appear closer or farther away, dependent on their angular size (*sigh* physics...).

4. Ri Gong Ri Guang Pu Sa is Chinese for "The Bright Solar Bodhisattva of the Solar Palace." In Buddhism, he is the Enlightened Being of sunlight and good health.

5. The learntarot links to a page about The Sun tarot card. It is symbolic of becoming enlightened (what Lucy wants us to become), experiencing greatness, feeling vitality, and having assurance. Pay particular attention to the description at the bottom of the page. Again, sounds a lot like Lucy.

6. The wiki page about the sun is information overload (not unlike this comment is becoming), but I did notice that the Roman sun deity is named Sol, which matches the name Lucy gave the sun image. Sol's female (Norse) counterpart is Sól.

7. Surya is the chief sun deity in Hinduism. The Vedas are Hindu scriptures.

8. Surat Az-Zumar 39: 5-8 are verses of the Quran I *think* deal with Allah creating day and night. But I'm not familiar with the Quran.

9. Kohelet/Ecclesiastes 1:3-9 - This I am more familiar with. In his old age, King Solomon laments about how all of his possessions and accomplishments are pointless, as they don't mean anything after death. Verse 3: "What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun?" Verse 9: "What has been will be again, what has been don will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun."

10. The final wrd.cm link simply goes to the front page of Wired. I don't know if that was intended to be the case, and if so, I don't know what information is suppose to be gleaned from it.

The only info I can *maybe* get from all of this is that Lucy is the Sun/Goddess of the Sun. Does that even make sense? What does that have to do with Sonnet 88? I don't know....

this page on the sonnets goes into a pretty deep discussion of sonnet 88 - 93.

Pretty much a story of how one will allow themselves to be made "the bad guy" and take all blame to protect the other - all the way to self sacrifice.

I was away for a bit and so missed (a whole lot it seems) but am specifically perplexed about something Lucinda wrote on the Youth WoT. Does anyone perchance remember what the missing words that were deleted are? (The Youth WoT concerned the question: "Think of your closest friend would you ever accept the offer of never having to pay another bill or rent or mortgage at the cost of never seeing that friend again?") and Lucinda's (?) reply was:

The first missing word was definitely "Callum." Edit: Or "husband." Or something that clearly indicated Callum. Definitely.
